South palm resort Maldives me and my wife couldn’t thank you enough for the amazing and most beautiful honeymoon we had there. Sea villa was just out of this world the room was fully air con outside shower mini bar the bed was so comfy and the overlooking view we had from morning sunrise to sundown we spent 14 days here and we just got back today we both felt emotional we really didn’t won’t to leave. It truly is paradise waking up every morning to go snorkelling with turtles and seeing every type of tropical fish swimming around you. Can I say our butler Mohammad Ali what an amazing man he was always there for us made sure we was happy and gave us the tour around the island he will be truly missed and the bar staff all the chefs who cooked the most delicious food. Shams uddin the chef we always spoke to he’s always brought us a nice plate of rice cooked to perfection he was always welcoming us when we entered the restaurant. And most of all Naz always made us feel comfortable always made sure drinks were on table always had a laugh with us me and the wife will truly miss him such an amazing man. The dolphin tour was stunning we seen thousands of them I went on a fishing excursion caught tuna and they cook it for you at the restaurant tasted amazing I caught a shark but came off at the boat. We went of a snorkelling excursion seen the most spectacular coral reef seen sting rays right next to your feet eels titan triggerfish black tip reef sharks outside our villa what more could you ask for and the answer is nothing. It’s paradise the sea is warm the pool was so nice after sunbathing it’s all there we will definitely be returning so worth the trip I would do it all over again. Everyone is so happy and smiling. This time yesterday we was sipping cocktails on the beach watching the sunset go down so magical we will never forget memories for life   Just won’t to say a massive  thank you south palm resort team for a truly memorable honeymoon Michael G Payg and Natalee Payg room 605

This was our first time to the Maldives, and it wont be our last.
We arrived to the island to be greeted by some of the staff, who took care of all our bags and cases. We were taken by a buggy to a bar , given a drink and a lovely cold cloth to refresh your hands and face. (so nice as it was so hot there). The very wonderful Siby explained everything to us, then took us all over to our sea villa. The rooms are clean and basic but have everything you need, and the view is amazing.
The restaurant did get a bit hot, but the chefs cook most of the food to order in front of you, so you know its fresh. Plenty of choices each day, so if your a fussy eater like me you wont starve. Buffet style with loads to choose from. Our waiter Salman was fantastic, he knew all our drinks orders, nothing was too much trouble for him. He really is a wonderful man. And I cant forget to mention all the chefs, they would cook what you wanted. The bar and its staff was great, Arif would remember every order. Now it comes to Mr Siby, this man should work for MI5. He knew what we had booked, he would be waiting to take us to and from each booking, the spa, diving, snorkelling. this is the man who really did make our holiday.
This was a holiday to remember. But it really is the staff that make this place, we couldn't thank them enough for making our trip the best.   
The only downside to this holiday is the mini bar is not included in your room, and the time it takes to get there as it was 3 planes and a boat.
But we will be going back.

Amazing Holiday..

Wow! Words cannot give justice to this place. My husband and I went on honeymoon here in May 24. Big thanks to Sibby and Soley who were wonderful. The staff are all amazing and cannot do enough for you. We stayed in the water villas and it was just amazing. To wake up and see that view each day is incredible. The room was lovely and clean, and the island had everything we needed-so much vegetarian choice too! Thanks so much for making our honeymoon incredible!

From the moment we landed at Male to the moment we left, South Palms Resort looked after us like Royalty. We were met by a lovely lady at the arrivals gate who took us to the lounge to await out transport to Gan and the same happened on our return journey and even escorted us to the check-in desk. We were met by staff on the speed boat jetty and quickly transported to a welcome meeting with our butler and onto our water villa. Villa's not 5☆ luxury, but perfectly adequate, and the views are amazing. Can't complain about the food and drink, as always something on the buffet and a lot of the food is cooked in front of you, even for the fussiest of eaters. What really makes this resort stand out, is the staff. They work tirelessly to ensure you have a good time. Our waiter "Magic", barman "Saif" and buggy driver "Ali" we outstanding, and really made our holiday special. Overall, outstanding value holiday. One tip..watch the transfer times from Male-Gan-Male. The flights to Gan leave 3 times a day, so check your arrival time at Male to ensure you don't have an extended layover time after a long flight from the UK.

Just Amazing

This is potentially a nice resort.  However, as many other reviews have stated their all inclusive policy totally ruins your holiday plans.  

We booked a water villa so we could sunbathe, read and snorkel with privacy.  This cost us much more than normal villas but it was what we wanted. 

All inclusive is, however, not all inclusive. 

Unfortunately you cannot get drinks in the room as the mini bar is not included.  It is chargeable.  So we need to dry off,  walk to the bar (10 mins walk or get a shuttle).  Have your drink, walk back, reapply suncream and them half an hour later repeat the process.  

We are avid readers and want to sit with a book and a beer in the evening.  We cannot do this either. We can either read in our room in the evening or go to the bar or restaurant where it us too dark to read.
  
This issue has ruined our holiday.  At Oblu Experience in Maldives last year we could take drinks to the room and do as we pleased. The same at Sunrise Attitude I'm Mauritius.  Both of these were amazing. 

When we complained to the manager of South Palm he spoke to my wife but he was not remotely interested in resolving the issue just saying repeatedly it was their policy. 

Clearly, as many other reviewers have noted, this is an issue.  The hotel is no more than 15% full so they are clearly trying to get as much money from people as possible as it is pretty unlikely they are currently breaking even.  I expect the hotel will close down if its occupancy doesn't increase.  This won't happen given how many people are complaining about this. 

Other issues

The steps to the sea on our villa have two broken steps so it hard to get out of the sea   The bannister and guard rail both wobble ferociously if you lean on them due to age and /or not being varnished.  Decking is also aged and causes splinters so you need footwear.  Thes are basic maintenence issues.  The villas are positioned so that, unfortunately, you get very little sun to sunbathe on the sun terrace. 

Don't be swayed by the free 'butler service'  either.  Its just delivering room service (which is expensive). 

There is a bar nearer to the villas.  However it is chargeable.  It is manned with staff and they are the only people you ever see in there.  Not once have I seen a guest drinking in there.  Clearly paying for drink on top of all inclusive is not what customers  are prepared to do and is a waste of the hotels resources.

Watching the Euro 2024 final they very kindly put it on the big screen and advertised this to guests.  Brilliant we thought!  Unfortunately they stopped serving drink just as the match kicked off which infuriated everyone there. 

Positives
The island is truly picturesque.  
The rest of the staff are truly amazing and nothing is too much trouble. 
The food is tasty and quite varied (given how few guests there are).  
The water villas have nice spacious rooms. 

The potential is there to make it a holiday haven if they were to listen to what so many customers are saying.  If you don't change your policy you will continue to have most rooms empty and end up closing down.

A good holiday resort ruined by poor management.
