Sun Island Resort and Spa

Maldives, Indian Ocean
Maldives Islands

Life under the palms at the Sun Island Resort and Spa moves at a different pace. Here, the important things are the sea and the sand, the food, the company and the relaxation. With such a spectacular location, wonderful restaurants and great service, it is supremely easy to relax here.

Superb location, wonderful restaurants and five star amenities at The Sun Island Resort and Spa:

This is the largest of the Maldives holiday islands and it stretches for nearly two perfect kilometres. The island is dotted with lagoons and surrounded by white sandy beaches. You can spend your days island-hopping, deep-sea fishing or relaxing in that special kind of Maldives way.

The Sun Island Resort and Spa gives you everything you need to make the most of your holiday. With its very own water sports centre and its diving centre, watery pursuits are inevitably popular. There's even a chance to feed the sting rays!

The spa is like something out of a dream. Take the winding track through the trees to the glade and step into the leafy treatment room. This is an Araamu spa, complete with Jacuzzi, sauna, steam bath and a wealth of invigorating and relaxing treatments.

And the restaurants are an attraction in their own right. The speciality Thai Sun Star restaurant stands on stilts at the end of an ocean jetty. It's the perfect spot for a romantic evening meal as the sun sinks slowly over the water. Or try the innovative Zero Restaurant which promises a gastronomic adventure - wonderfully nutritious healthy food in the heart of the hotel gardens.

During your stay you'll enjoy your very own air conditioned beach bungalow, complete with private sun deck, as well as satellite TV, mini bar, and drinks making facilities. Or you might like to upgrade to a water bungalow. Just ask for details?

To say it's breath-taking doesn't do it justice. The Sun Island Resort and Spa - on the southern tip of the South Ari atoll - bathes under a warm sun, surrounded by palm trees and encircled by the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. The Sun Island Resort is reached by a 30 minute flight followed by a 5 minute speedboat ride.

BE AWARE: No COVID precautions, incompetent and discriminatory hotel

Review by machadom736 Porto, Portugal

We’ve been a week in a water villa, all inclusive. They have a very special price on these water villas for a 5* hotel (now we understand why…)

  • some of the staff doesn’t put their mask covering nose and mouth

  • a lot of guests don’t use masks when walking around the restaurant and the staff does nothing (by the way it’s been in the news that there’s at least a couple stuck at the hotel because they got COVID at The Sun Island

  • be aware of their schedule for PCR’s test. The day we left the hotel we arrived Male’s airport and in order to do the check in Qatar airways forced me and my wife to do an antigen test so we could board, claiming the PCR test we presented didn’t comply with 48hrs’ Spain policy...

This PCR test was paid to Sun Island and was managed by their staff. Then a supposed agent of your hotel took us to a counter where a guy asked us to pay 178,50$ to do an antigen test at the airport. We were told by these agents that they’ve contacted your hotel and you refused to take the responsibility. We’ve paid the tests so we could board. We filed a complaint 6 days ago and STILL GOT NO ANSWER from them.

More Cons:

  • all inclusive, not so all inclusive: you have to pay for fresh juices, branded drinks and the minibar only offers water and refrigerants.

  • SUPER DISCRIMINATORY: We are two women and the men of the staff kept asking if we were family and didn’t accept we were a couple. The hotel didn’t even gave us the honeymoon pack. Also the staff doesn’t respect the “privacy please” sign.

  • food was average. We’ve been in other 5 stars’ hotels in north and central America and Asia this was the worst in terms of variety and fine food

  • beautiful island full of vegetation to go for walk (if you are tired of beach)

  • picture-perfect beaches

  • incredible for snorkelling

  • overall cleaning
