Maldives Islands

Life under the palms at the Sun Island Resort and Spa moves at a different pace. Here, the important things are the sea and the sand, the food, the company and the relaxation. With such a spectacular location, wonderful restaurants and great service, it is supremely easy to relax here.

Superb location, wonderful restaurants and five star amenities at The Sun Island Resort and Spa:

This is the largest of the Maldives holiday islands and it stretches for nearly two perfect kilometres. The island is dotted with lagoons and surrounded by white sandy beaches. You can spend your days island-hopping, deep-sea fishing or relaxing in that special kind of Maldives way.

The Sun Island Resort and Spa gives you everything you need to make the most of your holiday. With its very own water sports centre and its diving centre, watery pursuits are inevitably popular. There's even a chance to feed the sting rays!

The spa is like something out of a dream. Take the winding track through the trees to the glade and step into the leafy treatment room. This is an Araamu spa, complete with Jacuzzi, sauna, steam bath and a wealth of invigorating and relaxing treatments.

And the restaurants are an attraction in their own right. The speciality Thai Sun Star restaurant stands on stilts at the end of an ocean jetty. It's the perfect spot for a romantic evening meal as the sun sinks slowly over the water. Or try the innovative Zero Restaurant which promises a gastronomic adventure - wonderfully nutritious healthy food in the heart of the hotel gardens.

During your stay you'll enjoy your very own air conditioned beach bungalow, complete with private sun deck, as well as satellite TV, mini bar, and drinks making facilities. Or you might like to upgrade to a water bungalow. Just ask for details?

To say it's breath-taking doesn't do it justice. The Sun Island Resort and Spa - on the southern tip of the South Ari atoll - bathes under a warm sun, surrounded by palm trees and encircled by the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. The Sun Island Resort is reached by a 30 minute flight followed by a 5 minute speedboat ride.

Paradise on earth!

It was one of the best and most amazing resorts I have ever been to. I visited this place with my family. The staff are extremely sincere, polite and helpful...

The place is filled with greenery and beautiful sights. The spa was an amazing experience. Food had great variety and the taste also was very nice. Pros: Manta feeding was very fun to watch, it was free of cost too. Staff also there to help you 24/7. They are friendly and greet you each time they meet you which makes our living experience better and warmer. A huge place with lots of things to explore which gives you a great stay here.

Cons: Buggy service not on time Not very well lit during the night Shopping is a bit expensive for essentials also

Special credits: MANAAN, the buggy driver was extremely friendly and polite and showed us the entire island and provided all necessary info about each place SHAMEEL, the housekeeping incharge was great and did all his duties accurately and provided us with his personal experience on the island too which helped us explore more IMTHIYAZ, our room attendant took care of the cleanliness and supply of essentials each day aptly. MIHAD, at Maniya restaurant helped us with cleaning our table after every meal promptly and was very friendly with us throughout our stay.

5* Service!!!

Me and my partner visited here for 10 days, and thanks to the friendly, helpful, attentive staff, our stay was brilliant. They made sure our stay was as perfect as possible. We would especially like to thank the following, they are a credit to the resort and are just incredible:

Alam - our main waiter for breakfast, lunch and dinner...

Alam is the best waiter we have ever experienced. He is so incredibly polite, professional and helpful. Service is very quick. Alam is very friendly and helped us settle very quickly. He advised on what we could on the island each day. Alam deserves a huge amount of credit and recognition for his hard work and commitment to the resort!

Santhana - filled in for Alam when Alam had two days off. Santhana again is very polite, very professional and provided a great service to maximize our great dining experience. He was brilliant!

Chef Rakesh - brilliant chef and provides incredible food! The service that comes with the food is also amazing! Always greeted with a big smile and always asks how we are and how our day has been. This level of friendly service along with the quality food made our meals extremely enjoyable.

All 3 of the above staff have made our experience at the resort better than we could ever have thought and deserve the recognition from management.

Because of this, we would love to come back and would recommend the resort to anyone.

Review of Sun Island Resort & Spa Reviewed today

via mobile So me and my partner arrived on the 6th of may, we have had two particular waiters look after us, an amazing chef too. The service has been outstanding, waiters are so so friendly, always have time for you, extremely polite and well presented. We depart on the 17th, we found that the facilities were very good, lovely food, presented beautifully...

(A huge shoutout to the chef that makes the butter chicken)!!
We were well attended to. The cleaners that cleaned our water bungalow were lovely, I needed my white dress cleaning and this came back SPOTLESS and ironed. (This had a lipstick stain on so probably was difficult).
I 100% feel like I've been living in paradise for the last 10 days and have met some of the loveliest people that I’ve come across.
We enjoyed the evenings down at the beach bar, sunbathing by the pool, the weather has been on and off but it hasn’t stopped us having a great time.
I have loved looking at all of the different wildlife, and trying new foods. The value for money (we went all inclusive) is very good, cleaners are round twice a day, re stocking everything and making sure that we have clean towels. Our water bungalow is presented beautifully and the views are just incredible.
I would 100% recommend this resort to anybody. We’ve had the best time and hopefully made some life long friends.
We would just like to say a massive Thank-you to Alam ( he is an absolute credit to the resort and has looked after us like his own family). We appreciate this so much. :) Alam has been with us since day one, our table was always presented so well, he knows our drinks and already has these ready, I am also very fussy about how my cappuccino is made, but his is excellent. If we could come back every year we would. Alam knows when we’ve missed a meal, he definitely deserves a lot of recognition for his service because he goes above and beyond and we’ve never met a waiter like him keep up the hard work!!
We would like to thank Santhana, he has also been great with us, very polite and lovely and is very attentive.
Also, we would like to thank the chef in the live kitchen, Chef Rakesh. he knows exactly what we like, and is also very polite, such a lovely genuine man, I ordered a tomato and basil pasta bake and it didn’t come as tomatoey as I would have expected ( it’s different where we live), he changed this for me and I was very grateful, it was beautiful. I have looked forward to coming down to the southern star restaurant every day.
I would just like to add that the Parathas are a MUST try, I will never look back and will always order these now.
- The sunset fishing needs a lot of improvement, I have discovered that this was not for me, the 3 ‘fishermen’ on the boat made me feel really uncomfortable, didn’t speak a word of English and had no name badges on, didn’t even get an introduction to them. I asked for a bucket as I was sea sick to be told ‘look at the horizon’ like this was going to stop me throwing up? There was no care or attention so I had to pay 50 dollars to get a boat back to the island as I felt very unwell. The fishermen kept speaking in their language and staring at me so I could tell they were saying something about me and giving me strange looks. I felt horrible. I got off the boat and just cried, what a horrible horrible experience.
- also, some of the waiters in the beach bar were off putting as they looked like they had problems with each other, one even threw the signature book at another, I thought this was particularly rude.
- the toilet doors need new locks putting on them, it’s unreal how many times I’ve walked in on someone or they’ve walked in on me, having to go back to the bungalow for the toilet is a trek. -In water bungalow 367 there is a leak when it’s raining in the bathroom, we had to use all of our clean towels on this. And the bathroom is covered in ants, wasn’t pleasant going to the toilet in the middle of the night with ants trying to bite you. We have also found several ants on the bed which had caused me to be awake some nights as I hate insects ( these should NOT be on the bed???) -during my stay I have had to purchase tampax from the shop, it’s no wonder the world is in period poverty when your charging £20 for one box of tampax, we can’t help being women, it’s just fortunate that I have the money, others may not and may have to do without. I really think this needs looking at, it’s an essential and should not have to pay extortionate rates for it. One of our cleaners had made some beautiful art on our bed, however sadly the day after he mentioned it and seemed like he was begging for tips, this is off putting. We could hear everything that was going on in the next bungalow and it is very challenging to sleep at night if you don’t like noise, if you don’t have the air con on all day and night the room is very hot, the wind and sea is very loud battering the bungalow. Everyone (guests) seems like they have a problem with each other in this resort, we felt like we were out of place, being given dirty looks, people staring etc. Aside from these faults, we are very glad we came and have made some unforgettable memories.
Thankyou everyone, we’ve had the most pleasant experience
