Amazing for a first trip to Maldives

Review by AlenKa1010 Dubai, United Arab Emirates

I am writing this review almost 1 year after our visit, so many small things that irritated us during our stay are forgotten, however many more pleasant things are still in our mind. Overall it was a fantastic first stay in Maldives, the size of the island offers opportunities for many different activities and even different sun-bathing experiences, while the Spa was one of the best that we've ever been to anywhere in the world. Yes, as anywhere, all inclusive package doesn't bring you the best in F&B options and quite often we went off track of set menu, yes, the food is not the most authentic on an island in Indian ocean compared to a one in Sicily, yes, you can't act at a spur of the moment and need to make bookings weeks in advance, yes, the butler service could be more proactive, however it all fades compared to a nice surroundings, courteous and friendly staff (especially in the Italian restaurant), and fantastic ambiance of the whole resort...

One thing we didn't like was rude staff at the watersports center which led us not to avail any of their facilities, however, living in Dubai, we've hardly missed much and rather saved some money. Bicycles to cycle around were great, but walking around was even better! Have I mentioned the spa? It was a real treat. Sun Siyam has definitely earned its reputation and I think of our experience there with a smile.

Dishonest resort. Dream family holiday booked for April 2020. Devastatingly lost due to COVID-19...

Cancellation by the resort and confirmation of refund, however August 2020, every possible opportunity to ignore and fob us off from returning our money. This holiday took 3 years to save for. Sun Syam have shown a deep lack of customer service, and completely discredited themselves during such terrible times. Lost any confidence to rebook what should be a dream holiday with such a dishonest resort.

Beach of heaven

Review by infoseacher Sidney, Canada

Me and my three friends were here for more than 8 days. Oh my god we were so lonely from the rest of the world. Until we set foot on the plane we were so lost in this paradise...

They welcomed us with worm greeting at the airport while all your luggage will be going by sea plane to straight to your room. Food is amazing and there were lots of out door restaurant that you can choose which one each day. There’s a ice cream shop too. Stay the kids away from it. Mr Muhammad treated us so well. There is a gift shop by the beach called ISLAND BREEZE which remind you to shop of a heaven with those amazing gifts that you can buy to remind maldives. Oh i would definitely return to this paradise.

We were met by a representative of the hotel at the airport who helped us check in for the Seaplane service to the resort. We were then moved by bus to the hotels transfer lounge where we were then asked to wait for the seaplane. In the lounge there was snacks and drinks as well as a complimentary 10minute massage...

We were in the lounge for around 90minutes before being escorted to another bus. We didn’t have a rep with us for this part of the journey which meant that we by chance ended up at the right building in get on the seaplane. We then waited for the seaplane in the terminal for around another 30mins before getting on the plane. We had expected a sea plane journey of around 35-45minutes as the hotel advertises but I suspect this would be if you went direct, but the seaplane stopped at 2 other hotels on the way to the hotel and 3 on the way back making the journey on a very hot plane more like 95 minutes. Do take some water from the lounge as the plane whilst an amazing experience is very hot. Having arrived in to Male at 14.20 we arrived to the hotel at around 19.00. We were then met by our butler who covered the AI details and took us to our room.

We opted for a Deluxe Beach Villa with Pool. The room is large and our housekeeper was able to find us some feather pillows to make the huge bed even more comfortable. I think one of the things we hadn’t realised is that not only the bath outside but the entire bathroom including toilet so you do have to do outside in the night to go to the loo. The air con worked well and we had a mini-bar included (as AI) which had a couple of beers, juice and some soft drinks. The hotel also includes lots of water in the room which we were very grateful for. I think one of the disappointments from our side was that we were at the end of the island by the kids pool and family villas – whilst I’d argue on the nicer part of the beach it did mean we had more noise than I would have liked. We also went for this room type so we could sit in the shade by the pool and watch the ocean but there was a tree between us and the beach which meant we didn’t have this un-interrupted view we had hoped for. Some of the outside space is also in need of some TLC especially the wooden areas in the bathroom. The room was really well looked after by Iqbul who seemed to be on duty 24/7.

Food & Drinks

We went for the All Inclusive option. We spent a huge amount of time choosing the hotel we would stay at in the Maldives and what made us choose this one was the fact that the AI option included the Al-a Carte restaurants with no restrictions. You can go on their website and see the ‘package menu’ under each restaurant which will show you what the menus are included. We also didn’t want to have to think about money while we were there so having the full AI including drinks made a lot of sense (and of course the unlimited ice cream!). I have attached to this review also the AI drinks menu as this isn’t on their website. I would say that we ate like kings. The food was amazing in all the restaurants. We had pre-booked dinners in the restaurants before we travelled which meant we got to try them all. We did then change around a couple of choices at the end to make sure we could revisit out favourites.

The drinks were plentiful and the staff did a great job keeping you topped up.

I think the only downside was the buffet which fortunately we only went to on the first night – it’s just soulless and feels more like a 3 star hotel. Whilst I think there was a good selection (and this is covering breakfast as well) but as it is quite spread out it feels sparse and un-exciting. They leave the lights on full in the evening so it feels more like a school canteen than a 5* dining experience. Just put some candles or something on the table, lower the lights and maybe dress the tables up. I think I would have been asking for some money back if I had to eat their more than once in the evening.

Overall excellent in this area (exc buffet).

The hotel has good facilities. We particularly liked the adults only pool which has a great view of the beach. The family pool is in land so do consider that if travelling with a family. Both pools are well sized and we had no issues getting a spot in the shade. The gym was well equipped. We also had included a snorkelling trip (as the included trip to a local island was cancelled due to Covid-19) which was very good. Just remember that you need to pick up your snorkelling gear from the dive centre as there is none on the boat (some couples hadn’t realised this and ended up on just a nice boat trip). We had included an hours water sports everyday. For us it was too warm to do everyday but we did borrow paddle boards one day – it is harder than it looks! (the watersports centre is also by a bit deeper water so you may want to wait to try standing up until further along the beach).

We also snorkelled in the waters just off the beach and nemo garden they have built. I found the sharks quite scary but once you know they will just swim off you get used to it!

Overall the sea was clear, the sun was shining and we very much enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Sort out the buffet and maybe some TLC in some areas and it will be perfect. The staff also make this place and we hope they are all safe and well in those troubling times

Review by JackieProsser Sydney, Australia

The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi was everything that I expected and more, honestly if you’re looking for the perfect Maldives experience this is it!

We enjoyed the sunset water horizon villa meaning we had private and close access to the water and enjoyed incredible sunsets over the ocean!

The experience was magical and unforgettable, I would go back to this resort in a heartbeat!
