This lovely boutique hotel is located in East Coast and boasts a beautiful beach location. When designer Camille Walala saw our bright blue skies, pink sunsets, green sugarcane fields, and the explosion of diverse paint colours used to decorate the houses in our village, it was love at first sight. And with local makers creating the furniture, art, and finer details, the Mauritian influence comes through loud and clear. It makes our boutique hotel completely unique.
The hotel offers a range of activities for guests to enjoy throughout their stay. Guests can soak up the tropical weather whilst taking advantage of the outdoor swimming pool and sun loungers, or even enjoy a range of water sports and on-site activities like horse riding, or why not take part in a traditional cooking class, this way you can enjoy the amazing cuisine at home!
The hotel features an on-site restaurant, a bakery and 3 bars - including a rooftop, beach, and pool bar. The restaurant uses woks, tandoor ovens and wood smoking for a range of its meals, giving its guests a more authentic feel.
Located in Belle Mare, SALT of Palmar boasts a stunning location on the beach. Guests will enjoy a visit to Flacq Market, after this, guests can enjoy the natural beauty of the nearby beaches, Palmar and Belle Mare Beach. Many holidaymakers like to enjoy the great outdoors with activities such as mountain biking and hiking/biking trails.
We chose SALT of Palmar as one of our stops during our honeymoon trip to Mauritius and Seychelles. After spending a long time comparing hotels, we finally decided on SALT and booked the additional honeymoon package, which came at an extra cost.
Unfortunately, our experience was a little disappointing. After a 24-hour journey, during check-in, we were told that the hotel could not find our honeymoon package, despite us having all the reservation details. This meant spending time and energy sorting everything out when we were already exhausted. As a result, our room was not prepared for our honeymoon as expected — there were no decorations or welcome cookies, and we also had to follow up about our honeymoon dinner. When we went to ask about the additional honeymoon extras again the following day, some of them had still been forgotten. This took away the excitement and special feeling we had been looking forward to.
Apart from this, the hotel itself was beautiful, very clean, and our room had a stunning view. The highlight was definitely the food — everything we tried was absolutely delicious, so we highly recommend booking the full-board option. However, drinks were expensive, which was a downside.
Overall, we loved the hotel’s atmosphere, food, and setting, but the repeated issues with our honeymoon package left us feeling that the special experience we had paid extra for was missing.

Wow where do I start? I have so much to tell you all bout this beautiful boutique hotel.
The hotel is set beautifully on the beachfront with perfect picturesque views of the sea from the restaurant, bar, poolside and bedrooms. Even the toilets hand washing area has a full length window which opens to a beautiful view of the beach absolutely breathtaking.
There are tables and chairs set along the front where you can dine or enjoy drinks looking out to sea. There is also a choice of sun beds located around the pool area or the seafront both of which are staffed by attentive staff.
The rooms are well equipped with teas, coffees, and water. Also beautiful smelling shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Beds are so big and comfortable ensuring the best sleep ever.
The gym is very well equipped and again the attention to detail is second to none, with almonds, protein balls, fruit and water available at all times and yes again the view is looking out to sea, and if your and early bird while on the treadmill you watch the most beautiful sunrise.
We are here on an all exclusive package and everything on the menus is cooked to order. The food I can only describe as michelin star standard, the variety of flavours perfectly complementing each other, and the presentation a piece of art ensuring your meal will start with your eyes first then indulging your tastebuds to an explosion of flavours in your mouth. The head chef Shiva would regularly come and talk to the guests asking if there was anything in their opinion could be changed or made better, I have never experienced this before. Shiva also makes it very clear if you would like anything on the menu adapted his team would be happy to accommodate this.
This is our second stay here at salt of palmer after saying we would never go back to the same place. One of the first things we noticed was the majority of the staff were the same as two years previously and they remembered us, they reminded us of little things that had happened during our previous holiday with them which highlighted the fact they really did remember us. This just adds to the whole salt of palmer experience.
Now to get personal
As our stay two years ago our room was kept spotless, our sheets, towels and flannels were changed daily. We would like to send a special thank you to Malinee who looked after our room and went over and above. She truly is one of the unseen hero’s, thank you Malinee you are amazing.
Waiters
All of whom were amazing and to name but a few Daram ..always attentive and and so very polite. Vishmay.. who learnt English watching YouTube you are an amazing person, so polite and helpful. Akshay..fits in perfectly with the Salt ethos, so serene and nothing is ever to much trouble. Rewa.. always there with a smile, I do not believe anyone can have a bad day after being greeted by his smile. Thank you for making us smile. Sharvind.. always in control and cool even when the restaurant is at its busiest. Vinesh.. so polite ,calm and perfectly there when you need him. Vinesh was also part of a very special surprise evening meal Salt of palmer arranged for us and he made it even more special. Thank you Vinesh. Faywaaz.. he is perfect behind the bar very attentive and makes your drinks perfectly and a very gentle calming soul . Bavish.. kept the rooftop alive Kenny.. always kept the gym well stocked and clean, and put on a lot of activities with never any pressure to take part. And now to mention the managers Vish.. always there to help Doc..again thank you for all your help Ved.. what can I say about ved? If you are a rum drinker you need to try his rums, he makes the most perfect rums, spiced, vanilla, passion fruit to name but a few and also the best cocktail mixer I have ever met, not only that he is so helpful polite and attentive. Thank you Ved
One last person which needs to be mentioned is Rishi he is the area manager who goes over and above the call of duty, he is always available, attentive, and respectful. Rishi encourages and installs the personal touches, a very big thank you for everything.
If you’re looking for that personal touch where you are made welcome and treated as friends and not a guest Salt of palmer is the place to go. I have a very stressful job I can truly say I have never been more relaxed While away on holiday. A very big thank you to all of the staff for making our holiday perfect. I just wish we could have mentioned everyone in person however to all of those not mentioned thank you again.
My partner and I came here as part of our honeymoon and couldn’t recommend it enough! Such a lovely boutique hotel. All the staff are so friendly and have gone above and beyond for us! Incredible food and drinks (great cocktails). Lovely rooms, lovely pool, great relaxed vibe. Everything we wanted from this part of our holiday after a busy week in South Africa. My favorite hotel I’ve ever stayed in!
This hotel is absolutely amazing , friendly staff, fantastic food, beach views, nothing is too much trouble, rooms have all you need, my 3rd visit there and get treated like a family member, had a lovely birthday surprise on the beach. 100% a great adult only holiday.
