This is what a holiday beach hotel should look like – the soft sand, the endless blue horizons and the wonderful tranquillity. The Lux Grand Gaube Hotel in Mauritius is the perfect island get-away. It's beautifully designed; you'll spot the local influences at once– the thatched roofs, the harmony with nature and the relaxing, laidback atmosphere. But there's inspiration from the Far East too – with influences from feng shui helping to make the Lux Grand Gaube Hotel one of the most relaxing places to stay in Mauritius.
Occupying a stunning location near the lovely fishing village of Grand Gaube on the north coast, the Lux Grand Gaube Hotel gives you everything you'd expect of the finest beach hotel. The wonders of Mauritius are all around you – the beach, the miles of unspoilt forests, and the breathtaking views at every turn. But there's more to Mauritius – this is a vibrant, welcoming island, full of colour and music, and it's all waiting for you to discover it.
So the Lux Grand Gaube Hotel is the best place to start. There really aren't any more spectacular settings. The hotel is bordered by no fewer than three beaches – and a beautiful big lagoon. Views extend out over the northern isles of Mauritius and there's something spectacular to see from almost every vantage point.
From your room you can look out over the sea or the magnificent countryside and just soak it all up. Sit out on your furnished balcony or terrace and watch the waves crash gently against the shore, or listen to the gentle breeze rustling through the trees. These are the sights and sounds you'll never want to forget. Superior rooms at Lux Grand Gaube Hotel are magnificent. They're all ensuite and air conditioned, and benefit from additional features including telephone, satellite TV, minibar, safe, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and Wi-Fi internet access. Deluxe rooms and suites are also available at a supplement.
As well as all those beaches to explore, you'll have four swimming pools to choose from – and that tranquil lagoon. There is also an excellently equipped fitness centre and a relaxing spa. In fact you can play sports, or you can swim, or you can windsurf or do any number of things… Or you might just want to make every effort to relax like never before. This really is the place to do it.
To aid your relaxation and contentment, you won't have to look far for the perfect meal. The Lux Grand Gaube Hotel boasts an outstanding selection of restaurants. Again local and Far Eastern influences have a bearing on the cuisine, but there is such a wonderfully eclectic mix on offer, from the best local food to barbeques and lighter offerings.
It's no surprise the Lux Grand Gaube Hotel is one of the most romantic hotels in the world. This is a beautiful, serene and utterly beguiling place – a perfect synthesis of setting and ambience that will completely charm you.

Situated on the North Coast at Grand Gaube, Lux* Grand Gaube occupies an idyllic position only a few minutes away from a quiet fishing village. Designed with Feng Shui in mind the hotel radiates a tranquil ambiance. Offering stunning views of the northern isles of Mauritius and bordered by 3 beaches and a serene lagoon, it is no wonder this hotel was awarded Trip Advisor's most romantic hotel in the world in 2008.
After visiting 2 other Lux* properties in the Maldives this was always high on our to do list to visit and we were not left disappointed.
Firstly staying during covid times - the hotel has the protocols covered to a high standard; all staff wearing masks, hand sanitiser located conveniently, tags on clean sunbeds and staff tested weekly.
We were warmly greeted on arrival and loved the dramatic entrance giving you a peak of the vast array of sparking ocean blues...
Hotel design is lovely, beach modern fresh! We had to wait for our PCR covid results in the room before allowing to roam the resort giving us time to settle. We opted for Junior suite which had a lovely ocean view and was ground level meaning the beach was not even 10m away. The room itself was nice, not massive but not cramped either. Soaking bath was another reason we picked this room.... but the property didn't include bubble bath in the toiletries provided? Strange! We had our pcr day 7 tests in a superior room in the adult side and glad we opted for the beach views of our chosen suite.
Two small beaches and two lagoon bays are what the property is set upon. Two average sized pools, the heated one being also the kids pool. The adult section beach and pool was great even more so considering it was school holidays. Sea water was always warm even during their winter and fenced off so you don't venture to far/ into the boats paths.
We opted for all inclusive which I think was the right option for us as a couple. Food was always great and different options even with the adults section having shut its outlets due to restrictions. Bodrum blue was a lovely turkish experience but the views on the peninsula really made it outstanding. The staff were always catering to our different needs, with us wanting to try traditional Mauritian food one evening; this was all privately arranged for us for no extra cost. We had pizza making lessons one lunch which was good fun and tasty. House wine "Scrucap" both the white and red were outstanding table wines to be included. Limited range of spirits in the all inclusive but the bar staff were always trying to accommodate where possible. Mini bar in the room wasn't particularly well stocked compared to other resorts of this calibre only 1 beer per day and only local beer unless you wanted a surcharge??
The Lux experiences is what is all about for us, as much we love the sun and chilling its also nice to do things daily. This is were Lux always get it right. We had a private rum tasting experience set upon the rum shack inc canapes all over a gorgeous sunset ..was a real nice touch. Private wine pairing four course meal in the amazing cellar room, barista lessons were funny to say the least, the gym was nice and modern, the nature walk was insightful and led brilliantly. Stargazing one evening, pop up cinema, cocktails... the list goes on. Spa day was well worth it and good value for money. Non motorised water sports are good during covid (kayaking etc) but you not allowed out on the speed boats as gov guidelines. This made for a disappointing snorkelling experience. You can see anything from either beaches and even kayaking far out and jumping off the water wasn't clear enough. Hopefully you could see more if you went further out in the speed boats when times allow..maybe.
With all the experiences one thing that always stood out was the service here. When little things went wrong during our stay they were always quick to adjust and amend. They really go above and beyond at every point to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and to make you feel like a valued customer. At the start of our week Manuja created us our itinerary to make sure we covered anything we wanted to do and giving me a point of contact with anything we needed. She was very helpful and even popped up to stay goodbye on leaving. Ashwan created our memorable rum tasting experience, setting it up beautifully and going above and beyond always. Amith was our sommelier for our wine pairing evening and he was very knowledgable, enthusiastic and made a for real special evening for us. The evenings food was cooked perfectly by Deepak and Veer. Deepak checking in on us throughout our stay making sure all our food was how we wanted, a great gentleman. Dominic running as head chef was always friendly and out about communicating with guests. Continuously throughout our stay Nicolas running f&B was always on hand making the little moments happen, with drinks, food, seating etc a real example setter to all. Rishi was our main waiter that really stood out for us throughout, making sure we was always looked after, friendly and polite. Sanjay with his cheeky smile always looking to help and chat. Vishnu always popping up around the pool and Radoo with his personal good mornings every day without fail and looking after us on the beach. Mario who gave us a wonderful nature walk spontaneously. I have never needed to write a review including so many names of so many individuals but that shows the real service level this Lux* is creating. Finally the GM on our last day allowing us to have a late check out as we had a late evening flight.
Well done Lux* GG a lovely holiday and keeping our faith in Lux brand has paid off! When are you starting a loyalty programme !?
From the moment we arrived, LUX GG, their staff went out of their way to ensure we had the perfect relaxing holiday. We stayed in one of the Ocean Villas, which was beautifully designed, spacious and fantastically appointed. The villa team (special shout out and appreciation to the fantastic butler duo Sachin and Ashkay, and Kamal from housekeeping - no request was too big or too small, they made us feel like royalty)...
Covid measures were thorough and pragmatic. Villa staff and general staff were warm, welcoming and highly trained professionals. Meals were delicious (Inti, the Peruvian restaurant is well worth it!), prices on resort were reasonable and the amenities at the resort are first class. We will definitely be using LUX again and could not recommend GG highly enough. A 10/10 experience and worth every penny.
We’ve just returned from 8 nights in the LUX* grand Gaube celebrating our honeymoon.
It was made to feel so special from all the little details, the staff truly care about the place and the guests and always make sure you are well looked after.
We stayed in a junior suite and then upgraded to an ocean junior suite but to be honest the junior suite was fantastic! Right on the beach and easy to pop back to grab a book etc. The ocean had the most amazing bath tub on the terrace and your own personal double sun lounger.
On our first day Reedoo (the man with the hat) on the beach made us feel so special by sticking a just married sign in a big sand heart filled with flowers (pics below)...
Every day he would come around and make our sun Lounger beds so our towels didn’t fall down, he even cleaned our sunglasses for us! And they have a very nice coolbox filled with beer, sprite, Coca Cola that you can order to have for the day on the beach. I also loved that each lounger on the beach has a button to call for service!! And they were super comfy, cushioned with a head rest and a parasol. Reedoo and his team went above and beyond to make sure we were always happy and had some fab stories to tell!
The hotel also has a ‘message in a bottle’ game - they hide a bottle somewhere around the resort and if you find it you win a prize! We won a gin tuition with Vishnu and 4 x scoops of ice cream!
Vishnu was amazing. Always so positive and full of joy and has so much knowledge and passion! He is the gin expert and our gin class was actually brilliant! Oh and make sure you get a peach ice tea while you’re here - best I’ve ever had!
We were here in September 2021, with Covid restrictions still in place - so not all restaurants, bars and activities were available, but there was so much choice!
We went paddle boarding, kayaking and on the pedalo most days - which was all included. It’s very windy so you can’t go far but the bay with the beach is sheltered. There’s not much to see in terms of snorkelling but there are three islands a boat ride away with amazing snorkelling (we couldn’t do this due to covid but open from October I believe).
The food was incredible! We went to Beach Rouge, Palm Court and Bodrum Blue and loved all of them!
We were on half board so breakfast and dinner were included. We don’t drink excessively and didn’t need lunch most days but whenever we did we just gave our room number and paid at the end.
If you’re considering going - we can fully recommend it. I was listening to some people moaning about their hotels in the airport and sitting smug that we chose the best on the island! We will definitely be back! Thank you to the entire team for a truly memorable honeymoon!
Where to start?! This is a long review…
From the moment we arrived at this stunning hotel, we knew we were going to have an amazing trip. We stayed in a Superior Room for 8 nights on an All Inclusive package.
Food - We ate at Palm Court, Bodrum Blue and Beach Rouge during our stay, all of which are excellent restaurants with varied menus...
Bodrum Blue was our favourite due to the amazing Turkish food on offer (lunch & dinner) - it’s also a beautiful place to watch the sunset. Beach Rouge (lunch & dinner) offers a great Mediterranean menu - tapas, pasta, pizza, fresh fish, smoked meats… Every meal we had was no less than delicious. Palm Court offered a la carte breakfasts and dinner, as well as another extensive day dining menu. Again, we didn’t have a single average meal. There really is so much choice. There’s also an ice cream ‘car’ from 2-5pm each day and a great coffee bar with a selection of hot and cold drinks - frappes etc. The restaurants/bars had an excellent wine selection, lots of delicious cocktails and even the soft drink selection is great. We usually book Half Board when we go away, however the AI meant we didn’t need to worry about additional charges and the huge selection available meant that the food & drink were a huge highlight for us. Just amazing.
Service - We received outstanding service throughout our stay. The team can’t do enough for you, regularly asking if everything is ok and whether you are enjoying your trip or whether there’s anything else you need. We didn’t have a single negative encounter. A special mention for: Alison (Concierge) who helped arrange a special, private meal at Beach Rouge where we got engaged. Vishnu - spirit expert who makes excellent drinks and great conversation! Reedoo ‘the man in the hat’ - excellent and attentive service on the beach, his passion is clear, as well as Avi & Veer who are also prompt, very friendly and will happily spend time talking to you and making sure everything is ok. Nilesh, Joulun, Jai were a couple of waiters who delivered excellent service with a smile. And we really appreciated Dominik taking the time to speak to us on multiple occasions, a lovely man who is clearly doing an excellent job. Everyone employed at the hotel works exceptionally hard.
Room - beautiful room, well decorated, with a lovely view from the balcony overlooking the beach and the sea. The only downside was the minibar wasn’t great and wasn’t always stocked, but this wasn’t a problem on our package.
Facilities - we went paddle boarding, kayaking and on the pedalos most days, which was great and complimentary. Sadly the motorised sports weren’t running due to COVID. The snorkelling isn’t good around the hotel as there aren’t many fish so we will have to come back to go on that boat trip ☺️. The pools and beaches are lovely and very well maintained, there are loads of sunbeds dotted around with umbrellas. Gym is great, there’s also table tennis, tennis courts, pétanque etc. We didn’t use the spa but that looked lovely too.
Overall - We had an amazing stay and won’t hesitate to recommend this hotel/resort to friends and family. We would love to come back.
Ps. The flight, airport PCRs and transfers were all straightforward. We also had PCRs the day before leaving the hotel which were well organised. If you’re still worried about travelling during these COVID times - just go for it, it’s well worth it ☺️
I stayed at the Grand Lux Gaube from the 8th-12 of September as part of an in-resort stay package.
I just want to say this has been one memorable holiday from start to finish for my family. We had an absolutely amazing time!
As soon as we arrived at the hotel via the hotel transfer provided we were greeted with a warm welcome by the lovely staff working at the hotel...
We were given a refreshing welcome drink and check-in went very smoothly. Our stay was on an all-inclusive basis which meant breakfast, lunch and dinner and most drinks on the menu were included in our stay.
As we had booked this holiday before Mauritius was fully free from COVID restrictions, we had to stay in our hotel room until the PCR results were back. We however were allowed to order anything from a set menu and it was delivered to the room without any tray charge. After 3-4 hours we got a phone call from reception that our PCR results were negative and we were free to explore the hotel.
I want to say a special thanks to Yasser, Pravesh, Joolan, Ashwin, Vishnu, Manjula, Yudish, Dominik and the rest of the team as they looked after us exceptionally well. All the staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. They would always have a smile on their face and go the extra mile for us. Nothing was impossible for them.
The hotel at the time of writing had 4 restaurants open in a staggered manner. These were Bodrum Blue, Palm Court, Beach Rouge and Inti. My personal favourite restaurants were Inti (Peruvian Cuisine) and Bodrum Blue (Turkish Cuisine). Inti was not included in the all inclusive plan but because of our board basis we were given 30% off the bill. Most items were included on the menu, its just that anything with an * had to be paid for extra. The included drinks and cocktails were fantastic.
The LUX cafe was BRILLIANT. We would order lattes, cappucino, milkshakes daily and all for free. It was like going to an independent coffee shop in London and ordering anything from their menu for free, they were even given in takeaway cups if we didn’t want to sit in the cafe.
I loved the ICI Ice-cream Van. It was available everyday from 2-5pm and the ice-cream was of very high quality. You had so many flavours to choose from and with the option of a cup or waffle cone.
Tip: Download the LUX app and you can view the food and beverage menu’s and directly via the app.
We used the gym daily. Very clean and everything was sanitised after use. It has everything you need for a quick workout. Also available were tennis courts, table tennis, spa, water sports. At the time of writing motorised water sports were not operational due to COVID policy. There were lots of activities available thought out the day.
The indoor cinema was also not operational during our stay due to COVID but I believe from October onwards they will be opening it up. The outdoor cinema on the beach was fantastic though. Loved the concept.
Rooms very fairy large and modern. The walk in shower room was my favourite part of the room. The view of the sea from our balcony was beautiful and I enjoyed waking up to that view.
This is a family friendly hotel. They really looked after my infant. What my wife really appreciated was the fact we could order baby food in advance and it was freshly prepared and delivered to the restaurant which we had our reservation in as well as delivered to the room without a tray charge! Every day they would change the ingredients so it wouldn’t be the same.
To conclude, we had a lovely time and the staff made our stay even more so memorable. I would strongly suggest if you like to drink then book on an all-inclusive basis as drinks were quite expensive. I will definitely be back.
