Memorable trip in Mauritian paradise

Review by ColhibsEdinburgh, United Kingdom

It’s a bitter-sweet feeling to be writing this review, nearly a month after our memorable visit to beautiful Mauritius, given that Covid-19 has since swept the world and frozen the tourism industry. Our heart goes out to all the staff at the hotel who made us feel so welcome and contributed to some amazing memories. The flight is the tough part - we flew from Edinburgh and by the time we arrived on the Island 24 or so hours later, we were a bit frazzled...

The hotel staff immediately put at ease, gave us the good news that we had been upgraded to the Sandy Lane section of the hotel and treated us to the first of a succession of excellent meals in the restaurant. We had opted for half board and, with hindsight, it might have been better for us to go for all inclusive, as the drinks were not cheap (compared to UK prices though, still reasonable enough). Going in March meant we were knowingly taking our chances with the weather, and while there were a few days that it chucked it down, it was consistently humid and warm and when the sun did come out it was incredible. The hotel itself is just as advertised and we were surprised that some people have posted negative comments. Much seems to have been made about stray dogs roaming about but when we were there we only saw a few, who basically mind their own business and don’t bother anyone on what is, after all, a public beach. The staff were always pleasant and helpful and the Mauritians are generally warm and engaging people. They were never pushy and even the occasional hawkers on the beach back off if you make it clear it’s thanks but no thanks. The location is stunning and well lived our long walks along the beach and our bus trips into Port Louis. The public buses are regular and an experience! Don’t expect mod cons or much in the way of suspension! There was a good mix of nationalities and ages in the hotel and there was a good vibe in both bars, with the Sandy Lane bar a quiet alternative to the main Footloose bar. The Sandy Lane restaurant was top class and relaxed, while the main restaurant (buffet style) wasn’t bad either, although much busier. To summarise, the staff ensured we had a holiday we will always cherish and remember. We hope they are able to hit the ground running when it is safe to re-open and that it recovers from this crisis. Thank you to them all. Special mentions to Anneketh who went above and beyond on the final day, helping us with our departure, and to Anu and Anoop in the Sandy Lane restaurant for their great service each night. We hope to be back one day!

Honeymoon

My wife and I had our honeymoon to Mauritius. We were first in the north-east then in the north-west. In the north-west you are closer to mountains and big cities.

Veranda Pointe aux biches hotel is a fantastic nice resort. Many small houses are piled up and for couples there is a separate wing that has an 18 year age limit. This wing is a must for couples who want to have some adult time together. There is also a separate restaurant specializing in romance. You can book a candle light table on the beach if you are there for a special occasion such as your honeymoon...

I have also traveled a lot around the world like Bali, Brazil etc but never experienced such wonderful maids. It is a surprise what these ladies come up with. We felt special throughout all our stay.

Outside the hotel there are buses going both north and south. But there is also a taxi driver standing just around the corner to offer to drive. He will also offer excursions. This is a safe way to get an excursions. Although this man is a world champion in selling services. I will recommend the dolphin and the mountain hike to the thumb. Do NOT buy any excursions with people who want to sell on the beach. You are likely to be deceived.

Finally, I just want to say thank you so much for an unforgettable honeymoon Veranda pointe aux! We are very pleased with the important choice we made when booking our honeymoon. An extra big thank you to the management who gave us extra attention on our honeymoon. We would love to come back at a later date.

Greeting from Norway

Incredible holiday in paradise

Review by JessicaSandellCape Town, South Africa

I took my mom on holiday for 1 week in January 2020. We had the most incredible holiday. The spa was amazing, we enjoyed a full body scrub and massage, the staff at the spa were well trained and professional...

Our room was kept clean daily by the housekeeping staff, the beds were made so well and the towel decorations were very special. The food at the restaurant was delicious and ranged from Mauritian to Western to Asian meals, there was always a variety to choose from daily. The drinks/cocktails at the bar were delicious and well presented. I would recommend the all inclusive option (all meals and drinks included) it works out to be more affordable that way. There were always enough beds and chairs to lounge on by the pool and the beach. The gym is great as it provided all the necessary equipment to keep fit while on holiday. The weather was sunny and warm most of time time and when it rained it was still humid. It's great to do an activity like a catamaran trip or swimming with the dolphins but just relaxing at the hotel everyday is pure bliss too. Our experience was made special by the wonderful and friendly staff: Manny, Vandana, Julio, Muzamil, Kanhye. Plus Jeffery and Ronnie were great at entertaining everyone with water sports and activities during the day and kept the vibe going every night with music and dancing. We had the best holiday and would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.

Amazing hotel, incredible staff!

My husband and I visited Veranda Pointe Aux Biches for our honeymoon in February 2020 and we were absolutely blown away! As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with a freshly squeezed juice and a cold towel which was highly welcomed. Numerous members of staff, including the hotel manager Clifford, cane straight over to introduce themselves which was a lovely touch. We were then shown to our room and our luggage was brought to us...

We were given a full tour of the hotel on route and shown where we could find all the information about daily entertainment etc.

Out room was beautiful - very spacious, comfortable bed, balcony area and inclusive mini bar. Our housekeeper, Jennifer, was so lovely and brilliant at what she did. It was so lovely coming back to the room to find wonderful towel art each day!

We upgraded to the Sandy Lane adult only part of the hotel which I would say is a MUST if you’re a couple! You get access to The Sandy Lane Grill as well as the lazy pool and lazy pool bar. In addition to this, we were given an all inclusive catamaran trip which was our favourite trip of the holiday! We also had a free foot scrub from the spa included which we then upgraded to a full body Mauritian massage. I am gutted I have forgotten the names of our masseuses but they were brilliant! The most perfect setting for a massage too.

The Sandy Lane Grill really made our stay. It had such a romantic atmosphere, stunning food, wine flowing and all pulled together by the brilliant staff. The Sandy Lane Grill is only open in the evenings so during the day, for both breakfast and lunch, we ate at the main buffet restaurant which was also lovely. It had a rustic feel with lovely views of the beach and lots of choice. There would always be something from the local cuisine as well as salads, pastas, pizzas and breads. The only thing I would mention, is that you have to sign after every meal even though you’re not paying and it seemed unnecessary and would often leave you waiting around at busy times. The Entertainment programme that the hotel ran at night in Footloose Bar was amazing! I’d struggle to choose my favourite act as they were all so talented.

Normally, we’re ‘pool people’ but we did find ourselves drawn to the beach at this resort as it was so relaxing with beautiful views of the lagoon. We even saw a couple of weddings taking place at the end of the beach which were beautiful! We were also thrilled to be able to use things such as paddle boards and kayaks for free. Something fun to do in between lazing around!

On to the trips: We didn’t really know what to expect from Mauritius or think there was much you could do out of the resort but we’re glad we did do some exploring. We did one trip (private tour) which took us to Port Louis, the capital, where we went to the British Fort which had 360 degree views over the capital, we went to a local market where we ate local street food and they also took us to a modern shopping centre which was beautiful. On the way back, we went to three stunning beaches of the north - A great way to see this past of the island. We then also did a tour of the South of the island which was brilliant. We went to the top of the volcano that created Mauritius, saw the highest waterfall, awww the Seven Coloured Earth - a spectacle created by the volcano, saw monkeys and giant tortoises and ate in the middle of a rainforest at a stunning local restaurant recommended by our driver. A brilliant trip! Such a beautiful island. For these 2 trips, I would highly recommend not booking through the travel agents. We were quoted double the price we paid and it would have been for a group tour whereas ours was for a private tour. Ask in reception for a taxi driver called Nawaz who works for them. He’s brilliant! Such a lovely man, so knowledgable and fantastic English. He has a very comfortable car and we felt very safe the whole time with his driving. Finally, do a boat trip! We did the catamaran trip arranged by the hotel. It was so much fun! Rum punch and soft drinks flowing all day, good music and a delicious BBQ lunch followed by a swim at a deserted island. Probably our favourite days of the holiday!

Right, I’ve written way too much but basically if you are thinking about booking here, you won’t be disappointed. It’s a very chilled, relaxing vibe and the staff cannot do enough for you. From Vandhana, Dorelle, Ian and Crystel in Reception, to Sunil, Jeeva and Sarah at the bars, along with all of the staff at Sandy Lane, thank you so much! Everyone looked after us so well and I wish I could remember even more names. You’re all a credit to the hotel and I have recommended your hotel to many people already! Hopefully we’ll be back some time in the future to see you all again.

Another good stay

we stayed for 2 weeks in adult only area. We were upgraded when we arrived. Our second stay at this hotel...

Reception staff really good, bar staff good, food soem issues at times but talked with chef to address these. Beach was lovely and plenty of sun beds, shame about the weather at times. Bus stop right outside to go off to see other things, cheap and and adventure. Hoping to return again soon for our third stay.
