Thala Bentota is one of the best hotels in Sri Lanka. We went to the hotel for research. They talked to us very well and explained everything very well. Highly recommend to any guest in Sri Lanka and any country.
Amazing vacation
A beautiful resort, good services and a comfortable atmosphere. The staff are cheerful and helpful. It is one of my favorite places. I have stayed there more than four times and I will repeat the experience again in the future.

Great Hotel.
Stayed at this hotel for 11 nights in November for our first trip to Sri Lanka. Booked a deluxe room on B&B basis.
On arrival at the hotel we were warmly greeted by staff to check in. We were given cold towels, which were so much appreciated, and a welcome drink. Within minutes we were checked in with our room key and showed to our room, number 112. The room was amazing. Large room with lots of storage space, amazing bathroom, super kingsize bed and two separate doors to take us out to our patio which was huge. Coffee machine in the room along with drinking water and mini fridge. Located on the ground floor was perfect for us, straight up in the morning out on to the terrace where our sun loungers would be waiting and short stroll to the breakfast buffet.
The breakfast buffet was excellent. Lots of choices from eggs, bacon, sausage, made to order omelettes etc. Fresh fruit, yoghurts, jams, cereals, breads and fresh banana bread,muffins etc.
Location was excellent. Right on the beach, restaurants near by and easy to get out and about to explore.
One negative we had was on our check out day. We were catching the last bit of sun when my friend was called in to the room by one of the men who cleaned our room. She was then asked to buy spices presented from an airport Duty Free bag whilst the other cleaner kept an eye on the door to make sure other staff members would not catch them. We didn’t expect this, and they obviously knew they weren’t allowed to be doing this, and assume this is their way of making a bit money on the side. Afterward we felt a bit let down by this and kind of tainted our feelings on leaving. Not a massive thing really, but not what I’d expect from hotel staff and made us question their sincerity in their previous friendliness.
I have to give a shout out to the pool guys who were so friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. Ajith, this is the only name I got but all were fab, was so friendly and always greeted us with a smile and hand shake. Genuinely happy to help and stop to have a chat for a minute or two to see how our day was going and that we were comfortable.
All in all a great stay. Hotel is in good order but could maybe benefit from a refresh of pool towels, a touch of paint here and there and some new furniture (bed sheets would also be beneficial) in places. Nothing that spoilt our holiday but would just make it fresher and up to date.
Thank you for a wonderful holiday and should I visit Sri Lanka again I would consider a stay back at Thaala Bentota.

A wonderful stay! Hotel perfect location for town and on the beach. Pool man Ajith was amazing, couldn’t do enough for us as well as the house keeping guys who had the best imagination when it came to shaping the towels, we looked forward to returning to our room just to see what they had done! (We have been on many cruises were this is standard) Food very good, waiters and bar staff very attentive. I hear the hotel has changed hands since we were there and some of the staff have left, so hopefully it is still as good…….
