We spent 3 weeks at this basic, good value hotel. The room was spacious and the sea view from the balcony was wonderful. The food was mainly Sri Lankan dishes, we especially liked the vegetable curries...
We liked that we could get to Marissa and Unamatuna by tuk tuk or bus from outside the hotel. The beach is beautiful but the strong waves made swimming difficult at times. During the last week of our stay the country was put in lockdown because of Covid 19. The hotel managed the situation well and we felt safe. Mercury Holidays our travel company kept us updated and the airport transfer during curfew happened without a hitch. We definitely did not feel abandoned, but were grateful to get home.
Mercury Holidays, two weeks end of Feb 2020 - £1150 each paid for two weeks All Inclusive and a private transfer. A hotel run by (mostly) extremely happy and hardworking staff. Brilliant service for two weeks from maids to managers...
10/10. Our rooms was a little dated but kept spotlessly clean, a decent size with a big double bed. A large balcony overlooking the beach (room 630). Food was pretty good on the whole with lots of variety and traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. The food could have been hotter sometimes, but that's a normal problem with all inclusive. Plenty of sunbeds, smallish pool but there are beautiful beaches right on the doorstep. Sea is swimmable with caution and there is a lifeguard. This hotel is very quiet with some small wildlife and birds to see, no loud music, queues, boozy guests or crowded bars - perfect for us. It is located a mile or so from bars and restaurants, however a short Tuk Tuk ride is very cheap (agree price before you go). They wait outside the hotel. There is also a bus or train close by. All in all a thoroughly relaxing couple of weeks (with a few trips), recommended for those that like a quiet, reasonably priced hotel with beach access/walks.
We stayed for 3 weeks in February 2020 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The room S604 was part of the ground floor rooms with direct access to patio/lawn & sunbeds. It also had a great sea view. Room was totally adequate for the holiday. Food was completely acceptable , although in some cases a little cold. Drinks (we were all-inclusive) were fine, with a reasonable selection. Downside was location ( a long way from Country attactions) and entertainment, or lack of it. Overall a great value holiday and would have no hestation in staying another 3 weeks. Well done Koggla Beach.
Last saturday, we came back from Koggale Beach Hotel. Because of a hospital surgery at Kandy Sri Lanka, we had to stop our tour through Sri Lanka and went directly to Koggala Beach Hotel to recover from operation. As from the moment we arrived at the reception till the last day before departure, everybody helped us enormously...
My wife could recover and every employee of Koggala Beach Hotel was willing to help. Many thanks for all support and the great stay at Koggala Beach Hotel. We love you all. Danny and Karin :-)
This is a lovely relaxing place to be on the whole. Sometimes there are groups on a tour who go and come back but there are also couples. The food is natural and healthy...
I didn't see one burger and chips. The dining room could do with a few plants and the lighting is a bit austere. A bit more mood lighting would be good.it would also be nice to eat lunch outside but that would need a separate lunch time serving area I expect. The rooms are basic but clean and the beds are comfortable. Thd people who work here really lovely too. Hey couldn't be more helpful. Sunbeds are set on the extensive lawn area with plenty of shade provided by palm trees and there is access to the beach and Indian Ocean. Its 3 star but good value for money. The only gripe is that they could do with more beach towels but that's probably because some people tend to use two on their sun beds.
