Located on the warm, golden sandy beach in a cosy fishing village in Kalutara lies a place that some call heaven... an enchanting Sri Lanka beach hotel that is tucked away in a vast coconut grove... where tranquillity meets paradise...sun, sand and sea lovers have discovered their ultimate getaway. The Mermaid Hotel and Club is nestled in a vast coconut grove along a stretch of golden sandy beach in Mahawaskaduwa, a cosy fishing village in the city of Kalutara, situated along the southern coast of Sri Lanka.

The most favoured amongst Kalutara beach hotels, the hotel opened its doors in 1983 and, through regular refurbishments, has kept pace with international standards. The hotel boasts fifty four standard rooms equipped with modern amenities, nine sea view rooms, nine superior sea view rooms and nine spacious deluxe sea view rooms that afford absolute luxury and comfort with direct views of the garden and sea beyond. Other facilities include two swimming pools, a restaurant with an alfresco dining area, 4 bars, sahana spa and a sports centre which offers a range of activities.

With its main swimming pool surrounded by sun lounges and its beautifully manicured gardens extending to the shoreline, this is the ideal retreat for relaxed getaway. The Mermaid Club is located adjacent to the hotel away from the main buildings offering a wide range of sports and recreational activities.

Kalutara derives its name from the ‘Kalu Ganga' or Black River. During colonial times, Kalutara was a hub for the spice trade and has many must-see fortifications that date back to the Portuguese, Dutch and British occupations of Sri Lanka. Another attraction which is considered a must-do is the most revered three-story high hollow stupa that was built on the premises of the Kalutara Vihara in the 1960s.

Travel time from the Bandaranayake International Airport (BIA) to our Kalutara hotel is approximately two hours (45 miles) and a little over one hour from the capital city of Colombo (24

Bad Experience

Review by yohanp252 Colombo, Sri Lanka

Visited on the 26th Nov 2021 ..checked out on tge 27th Nov...we booked three rooms for 7 of adults . We requested a late check-out which they agreed to give one room till 2.00 2.30 pm on the 27th. All were OK and we understood the requirements of the hotel and handed over the first room at 11.15am and the second at 11.50am ...

All the two rooms were given based on the understanding and we plug in to one room. We started having our lunch around 1.45.pm. around 2.10 pm a person from front office rushed to me and dint hv any curtacy of excusing and started accusing to hand over the room in front of all. That's showes how customer oriented they are ..infact all our enjoyment was taken away buy this so called front office executive......we gave our first room at 11.15.am which we could hv stayed till 12 noon.or more..is this the way they treat customers after long lockdown ...spoke to Rajeev the manger which was very humble to apologise..but the damage was done. The front office executive dint bother to apologise even after I remind him of what he did wrong..you don't bother a customer while he or she is having a meal even for a animal you would not do it..he should hv excuse and ask me there is an issue what could be done ..for sure I would hv help and except it .which I did in the morning ours to help them. I will not visit them again as there are so many other options we hv Regds Yohan Perera

Unwind and enjoy the humble Sri Lankan hospitality!

Review by prwijetungeart Colombo, Sri Lanka

Visited with family and spent over night full board. All I can say is I enjoyed my stay. Food was lovely and the ambiance pleasant and calming...

Specifically love the deco of the rooms given the colour pallet and the art. Special shout outs to Mr. Nandana and Ms. Thakshila two beautiful souls at the reception who made the stay all pleasant. 'Habitat' has great potential and I definitely recommend the humble Sri Lankan hospitality it offers.

We booked the hotel for a weekend. From the time we came in the staff were not friendly, they did not greet us and didn’t offer to take our luggages to our rooms. It was cold and not welcoming...

The whole experience was an awful experience. The room was okay but was not comfortable with the overall hygiene. The sheets had stains and was not a comfortable sleep. The food was not great. Overall the good experience was not great.

Mesmerized with what this amazing gem of a hotel has to offer

Review by Traveler30154085957

Was lucky enough to getaway on a long weekend (3+ nights) was welcome by the suite on the 3rd floor overlooking the sea at the perfect height. with the wind in perfect speed every time you step out. two outdoor chairs for you to sink in and cherish everything nature has to offer undiluted...

amazingly spacious suite with all that you need at your fingertips. the most entertaining smart TV where you find absolutely anything you need starting from movie channels to news feeds and NETFLIX. the room has a bathtub perfectly placed to sit in during sunset and watch every graceful movement in a bubble filled warm tub. the pool is designed meticulously enabling any human to enjoy its perfect nooks. Baby pool and long steps perfectly placed to ensure anyone of any age category is looked after by offering a warm pool experience. and for the swimmers the pool offers a perfect length to get some exercise in. what’s most amazing is the pool is equipped with blue LED's that illuminate when turned on at night. stars above you and blue gems gleaming from under the pool. The food that was offered by the chef (Ranjith) was 7 stars every single time it was served. absolute master creations perfectly served. every meal that was devoured was different from the previous with a touch of master class. needless to mention all the staff who's welcoming smile was always hidden behind the mask, yet evident in their sparkling eyes thanking everyone for the patronage. always following safety guidelines and ensuring safety to all patrons. last person would be Rajive the manager who makes all of what heaven has to offer possible within the confined space of this sparkling gem in Kosgoda. I would recommend The Habitat by Asia leisure to all of you, whole heartedly! A perfect getaway to all weary, to unwind and feel at home. leave rejuvenated.
