We booked this hotel on a friends trip in south India. We knew Verkala was different and booked based on rating. we planned to arrive late. and wanted to book something ‘good enough’ or safe to the needs of 3 people.
We were disappointed The hotel is rundown, porch was dirty with bird droppings Furniture old, style old,
There are some pros: Location, friendly staff
Other than that most things are horrible: Breakfast - un appealing . Staff has given up. No joy Shower, beds, ambiance, lobby, welcome All terrible.
I think TripAdvisor should reset this place’s rating It would not get close to what is is
The rating is very VERY V E R Y misleading
We left as soon as we could
Two of us, upon arrival Those we remained, regretted the experience
This resort is right on the beach. The rooms have excellent views of the pool and the sea and are very spacious. We stayed in the Executive rooms. The view from the balcony is wonderful. One can watch the beautiful sunset right from the beach in front of the resort.
The food is very good. We tried the local cuisines and Chinese food - we loved it.
This resort is highly recommended.
Some rooms specifically say those are air-conditioned, and some do not mention air-conditioning. A Kerala friend says, rooms are NOT air-conditioned unless it specifically states as such. Is it true? Air HBR rooms air-conditioned?
We are a party of three adults wanting to reserve an executive room. Do they have 3 "proper" mattresses for all three? Or will it be a folding cot for the third person?
Usually I highlight the positive sides of a hotel. So, here I shall start with how beautiful the location of the hotel is..it is really found once in a hundred stay. The furniture and fixtures, like bathy fittings, sea facing bay window, writing desk, an wooden couch by the window, wood panellings, channel AC, a mini bar...all indicate good intentions. Sadly absolute lack of maintenance and renovation has almost ruined the place. Entire place, starting from the lift to the room reeks of dusty, damp smell which no amount of room freshner could set right. The large sea facing windows are dirty, AC works poorly (the rooms are actually sealed without any ventilation or fan). The restaurant is on the top floor, and, hold yourself tight, is without AC or even fans. The sofas at the reception seating area are worn out.
I could go on & on. But my purpose is not to demean the property. Varkala has a few hotels and Hindustan is one of the best available options. It just seems that post Covid the property has not been refurbished at all.
Stayed in Room #303- have best views of the pool and beach. I think this hotel has best views from the room in Varkala. Little outdated furniture, but the management is trying best to keep it up. Breakfast could be better and staff could be more trained to deal with non-Malayalam speaking guests.
