2 nights at Marco Polo

Review by PoutinefortheRoad Thrissur, India

I had a prepaid reservation through booking.com at marco polo for 2 nights. The hotel is right in the heart of Deira district and pretty much everything is a 5 minute walk away. The location of the hotel makes it easily accessible via public transport except the metro.

The check-in was not the smoothest as the receptionist seemed confused about our booking (he couldn't retrieve my booking and initially told me that its not confirmed then into " booking is confirmed but payment has not been recieved") We spent a good 30-40 at the reception.

Once in the room , it seemed a bit cramped but as it offered good views to the busy streets outside, it was not a bummer...

The washroom/toilet on the other hand was not in its best condition. The toilet was not maintained properly and the shower was very cramped complete with a dirty shower curtain. The HVAC worked fine and there was a cupboard and flat screen tv.

While the hard product was okay to good at the most , their service frontier is an utter failure. The staff starting from the receptionist to the room service was rude. They wanted to charge me 20 AED when I asked for a plate to have my food . When I called the room service at night to request a bottle of water they told me water was chargeable too. This is unacceptable.

Barring the staff , the hotel is manageable for a one stay because of its close proximity to the Deira city center. You'll find a plethora of options for food and whatnot in the streets right across. Just DO NOT interact with the staff and you'll have a decent stay for the price you pay (as they usually have good pricing on various websites).

They have a SPA and a couple of clubs inside the hotel too.
