Mediocre service, beautiful grounds

Review by _strawberry_mojitoIG Toronto, Canada

This resort is very large, took 10 - 15 mins to walk from the main building to the beach. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, and lots of Monkeys, Coati, Iguanas throughout. The resort appeared to be very understaffed...

We we arrived to check in, we were partially checked in and then moved over to another staff who offered us drinks and then tried to convince us to attend a "breakfast" to learn about being a hotel member. We declined, and then had to wait for the first person to be done to get our room information. We stayed in the Platinum section which was close to the beach but far from main building with restaurants. It had it's own breakfast buffet, but was very small. The room was very nice, however we booked for 3 adults and received a king bed. We enjoyed our patio. The main buffet had a good selection. We couldn't get into restaurants as they filled up as soon as the reservations opened up each day. Taco cart by the pool was great. The Platinum section came with premium liquor, however we couldn't get any premium liquors, we were told no even though we could see them at the bar and showed our silver bracelet. Pool bars closed early (one day at 4), always line ups when walking to the bars. Had to be up and out before 6:30am to get a chair at the pool or beach. Room service took close to an hour (even for coffee). No coffee shop and didn't have any cream, only powdered milk on resort. The entertainment team was great and we enjoyed their shows/activities.

1st trip to Mexico - Disappointed

It was my first trip to Mexico and we stayed at the Grand Princess Riviera and upgraded to the Platinum because we were celebrating a milestone birthday. We did not receive what was promised for an upgraded suite and it was next to impossible to get a booking at a restaurant. As a black person I felt overlooked because after asking for a drink etc other guest who came after us were served and we never received our drinks even after several request and reminders...

I have travelled to Bermuda, Jamaica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Antigua and countless other places and this is by far the worst experience.

The animsls got into the trays left outside the rooms after room service and you have to side step the food on the floor so don't stay on the ground floor.

In your face racism

Review by cooliegirl04 Brampton, Canada

Went there for a milestone birthday and was very disappointed. Upgraded to platinum suite but got none of the perks. No welcome drinks, phone not working, burned out light bulb in bathroom not replaced and getting a reservation was rare...

Waiters totally ignored us and served the Caucasians first. Waited over 45 mins for sparkling water, no dinner rolls but the non blacks around our table got theirs. Unfortunately, this happen a few years ago when I was at the Grand Sunset. Forget about getting a beach lounger! As for the food, tasteless with horrible presentation. If you are black, avoid this hotel!

Never again

This hotel offers beautiful gardens with wildlife everywhere, I could not be more excited to try it. Once you look closer the food isn’t great the places to sit outdoors are never clean, ants everywhere, people smoking in the middle of the pools and D.T.F signs at doors. This place is great if you like this kind of vibe.

Fun Family Time!

Review by Ursula H Playa del Carmen, Mexico

We are a family group of 7 people and the Princess hotel was perfect for this. There is always something entertaining to do and lots of places to sit and relax. We used the kids club mini water park area and felt it was really worth it to pay that little extra to be able to go there, because all the sun loungers there had umbrellas and it had an area that we could get food and drinks too, with a very good inside kids area...

At night the shows were much better quality than other hotels in the region, so this was very refreshing for us to see and we really enjoyed it. The food is very good in Princess too, with a big buffet to choose from, with plenty of selection for all types of eaters. We'd like to give a big THANK YOU to Roberto Canela, who was the F&B manager of the buffet area. He went above and beyond for our family each day and also helped to organise a special dinner for our family member that was celebrating a birthday while we were there. He is an asset to the company, with high quality service, professionalism and warmth. His team around him were also excellent and gave a fantastic service. There is so much we all liked about this hotel, too much to mention, but it's worth mentioning that it has a lovely beach area and the staff in this hotel work very hard to clear away the seaweed each morning so you can walk into the water in front of this hotel. I noticed on our walks that other hotels had not done this, so another big thank you for this, as it's nice to be able to take a dip. This hotel is well worth going to if you are a family. It's very easy to get around, you'll never go hungry or thirsty as there are so many restaurants to choose from, there are plenty of bars and a lovely lobby cafe bar too, with great coffee. The only thing that I feel the hotel could improve is to have more sun umbrellas around all the main pool areas. There are lots of loungers, but very few umbrellas and therefore it makes it very difficult to get any shade, unless you are up VERY early at the pool. So this was disappointing and the main reason we paid extra to use the kids club water park area, because there we found the shade we needed.
