This beach hotel is located in downtown Playa del Carmen in the Riviera Maya. The hotel is located just 350 metres away from the beach and 250 metres away from the cosmopolitan and renowned pedestrian zone of Quinta Avenida where a boundless array of bars, restaurants and exciting entertainment and shopping venues are to be found.
This hotel enjoys a stunning architectural style, reflecting Mexican influences in its style. Guests are welcomed into the cheerful surroundings of the hotel where light-filled spaces create a relaxing ambience. The beautiful guest rooms are set around the pool, and are tastefully designed in keeping with the rich culture and traditions of the surroundings. Guests will appreciate the hotel's selection of exemplary facilities, which have been designed to deliver the highest degree of excellence to every part of a visitor's stay.
The hotel is fine. It’s not luxury but it is clean the beds are comfortable and the pool is nice. Even though on the Main Street it’s actually very quiet. It’s also very convenient for a lively popular restaurant across the road.
I do not recommend the breakfast in this hotel.
Curiously the hotel cannot provide ice and it doesn’t have a bar or freezer.
To that end, if you’d like to have a chilled drink by the pool you need to walk down the street to purchase drinks etc and ice ( note ice is only available in 5 kg bags) and bring them back to the hotel.
In addition I asked the hotel on my second stay to post 5 post cards and left more than ample to pay for. The staff were not able to direct me to a post office. Non of the 5 postcards have arrived in the UK 2.5 months later. I have called the hotel to chase.
My advice. Go elsewhere.
I’ve called the hotel to check what has happened. I await a response.
My wife and I come to Playa del Carmen every year but we are back after 2 years now and this time we didn't pick El Dorado like we always do. We thought it would have been a poorer experience since resorts give you everything you need at any moment and small hotels are often a less pleasant way of being. We had to rethink everything we used to believe. This place looks like a mexican home starting from the colors, yellow and blue and everything beautifully placed really gives you the mexican experience. It's not fancy, it's not 5 diamonds, it's definitely not luxury but it's clean, cozy, well kept and the staff is efficient and friendly. Plus staying at the very center of town helps a lot. A must for our next trips.
How can lost your loyal guest? We come to this hotel more than 12 years ago every year with friends. Now first time the breakfast is uner any standard and not enough for an adult. A little fruit 8 dkg`s a little cereals and a small portion yogurt. If you want marmalade and bread you need to pray for bread because forget it to put on the table. May be say it’s COVID but last year also was pandemic but breakfast was great. It looks like after 12 years loyalty’s we need to looking other hotel. Thank you.
WARNING: Strongly advise you to look elsewhere for accommodation or know you cannot expect any help from management if your plans change. During covid this is unacceptable! Management does not reply to emails and is very unhelpful on the phone. I made a booking and needed to cancel. They have kept my money for all 6 nights booked and completely ignored my attempts to contact them.
We had booked a month vacation rental condo unit at Hacienda San Jose in Playa Del Carmen October 2021. On our 2nd day the hydro went out at 4 am, we had no power and no water...(the whole street was out) we waited until the evening before finding an alternative place to stay for the night. We found Las Golondrinas and got a room for the night at a very reasonable rate. Johnathan, the manager on duty that night was friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The first room he showed us the a/c wasn't working properly, no problem, he got us another room right away. We got a good night's sleep and a refreshing shower. The next evening (back at our rental unit) I realized that I had left my prescription eye glasses at Golondrinas, we went back thinking there was no way we would be able to get them back. Johnathan was again on duty, he took us up to the first room we went in and at first is seemed like I would be out of luck as we couldn't see them, then Johnathan spotted them... I was overjoyed and almost in tears to find them... Johnathan was so kind and patient, he is the meaning of the words "customer service" here in Playa Del Carmen. We would recommend Las Golondrinas without hesitation, it's a lovely hotel with lovely people running it...
