Located on prime beachfront property, this all-inclusive resort enjoys dazzling views of the Caribbean, a magnificent white-sand beach and crystal-clear waters surrounded by tropical foliage. Facilities include a 24-hour reception, currency exchange, lift, a hairdresser and an auditorium. Younger guests will love the children's playground and kids' club. Meals are served in the café, pub and there is a choice of bars and restaurants. There are also conference facilities, wireless Internet access, room service, a laundry service (for a fee) and a car park.
Guest are required to make advance reservations for the restaurants Sensai, Rittrato d´Italia and Villamarina.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We planned this special family holiday months in advance to celebrate my sister-in-law's 50th birthday. Seven of us travelled from the UK and met four family members who had travelled from Brazil. We chose Ocean Coral & Turquesa primarily because it was the only resort able to guarantee an accessible room for my brother-in-law, who uses a wheelchair.
Unfortunately, what should have been a memorable celebration became a deeply disappointing experience.
The accessible room Despite receiving confirmation that an accessible room had been reserved, we were told on arrival that none was available and that my brother-in-law might have to wait three days for suitable accommodation. After we complained, an alternative accessible room was eventually provided the following day.
Toward the end of our stay, my brother-in-law experienced a medical emergency involving the accessible shower equipment he had hired. We then discovered that there was no emergency alarm in the room. When my sister-in-law tried to call for help, she also found that the room telephone did not work. For a room designated as accessible, these are extremely serious safety failures.
The beach We specifically chose a beachfront resort because we had promised our six-year-old son golden sand and clear blue sea. Instead, we arrived to an overpowering smell of rotten eggs caused by large quantities of decaying sargassum covering the beach. The beach was effectively unusable.
Our holiday representative told us that the sargassum would be cleared within a few days, but we saw no meaningful effort to remove it. This was particularly frustrating because other hotels in the area appeared to use tractors daily to keep their beaches clear. After experiencing headaches and nausea, I raised the issue again and was told, "Don't worry, you get used to the smell after a while." This was an unacceptable response to a genuine health and comfort concern.
The pools The pools were generally adequate, although the water did not always appear particularly clean. On at least two occasions, raccoons entered the pool. Given how frequently raccoons were seen around the resort, this raised concerns about hygiene and how the pool water was being monitored and treated.
Restaurants and food Several restaurants required reservations, but booking through the hotel app was almost impossible. Reservations opened at 10:00 a.m. and were often completely booked by 10:05 a.m. The app also allowed bookings for only four people, making it extremely difficult for larger family groups to dine together.
The buffet food was poor, with limited options for guests with allergies or dietary requirements. All seven members of our UK party experienced stomach problems during and after the holiday, which we believe may have been related to improperly prepared food.
Health and safety incident The most disturbing incident involved my 71-year-old father-in-law, who slipped in a flooded public toilet near the pool bar. There was no warning sign inside the toilet, despite the wet floor. He injured his lip, chest and knees.
We immediately took him to the lifeguard, who placed a plaster on his lip and contacted Guest Services. Rather than prioritising his injuries, the Guest Services representative focused on telling us that seeing the hotel doctor would cost US$150. She then tried to persuade us to sign a form stating that we had refused medical assistance, which was not true.
Staff appeared unwilling to help until they had reviewed CCTV footage to determine whether my father-in-law had been wearing footwear, even though there was apparently no camera covering the area where he fell. We asked to speak to the Guest Services Manager but were initially told that the manager was not on site. Only after the situation escalated did the manager appear and reluctantly arrange for the hotel doctor to examine him.
The Guest Services representative was also extremely rude to my wife. When we said that we intended to report her conduct, she removed her name badge, threw it across the desk and said, "There - that's my name, Berenice. Report me."
The immediate priority should have been to assist an injured guest, not to argue about cost, responsibility or blame. The way our family was treated was disgraceful.
Conclusion We were told that the resort was due to close for refurbishment from August to November. Unfortunately, it felt as though standards had already been allowed to decline and that little effort was being made during the final weeks before closure.
The failure to provide the confirmed accessible room, the lack of basic emergency facilities, the unusable beach, the food and hygiene concerns, and the appalling handling of my father-in-law's accident all contributed to an extremely disappointing stay.
This was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime family celebration that we would remember for years. Sadly, it will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Ocean Coral & Turquesa and would not return.
Excelente experiencia y comida. Chef Oscar is the Best!!
Excellent Resort. All the service is amazing. Thank you for everything!. Please I need the contact of the entertainment manager to be in touch , thank you.
Dining at one of the many restaurants at this hotel has been amazing.
Our favourite was Blue moon, with its quiet atmosphere and attentive staff, big shout out to Juan and Alex for being so friendly and welcoming.
We have just returned from a 10 night holiday here. We didn't actually book this hotel originally, but after we were informed of works going on where we were supposed to be staying, we decided to transfer to this hotel. We were a bit skeptical as it was not our first choice but it was absolutely the best decision we have made and we are already looking at coming back. There are things that other guests were unhappy about (e.g no access to beach due to seaweed and renovations on the other side of hotel) however we found that this did not affect our holiday in any way. We woke up every day with the biggest smiles on our faces and making any type of complaint never entered our minds as we were having so much fun. The hotel also can't do anything about the seaweed, it's not their fault! It would have been nice for TUI to let us know beforehand that the beach was closed but this is not a reflection on the hotel. We had also done our own research prior to coming so we knew what to expect with it being peak sargussum season. There are also other beach trips that you can go on (Isla Mujeres is a must) The staff are lovely and attentive and we thought the food was delicious. We have some picky eaters in our party who can become very anxious about food when abroad due to allergies, but our plates were full every night and things were well labelled which helped reduce any worries. We did not feel the need to try the a la carte restaurants as we were so happy at the buffet, so we can't comment on the quality of these. We want to shout out a few members of staff who made our holiday so special. Gustavo and Brandon at the activity pool par were hilarious and always kept us topped up with drinks. Gustavo and Jorge on the entertainment team were so friendly and made us feel so welcome. They actively go the extra mile to make sure their guests are happy. They let us play some of our favourite songs by the pool and also taught us how to salsa (and were very patient!) Gustavo brings the energy and some superb dancing for the pool aqua aerobics. We're usually lazy on holidays like this, but even we had to get involved! We also loved the foam party - we've been to some at other hotels and this one was the most enjoyable by far. Our room was absolutely fantastic, it is genuinely the nicest room we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in many 5 star resorts. It is clean, spacious with lots of large mirrors and the beds are nice and comfy. There are 3 of us and we all had more than enough space. The mini bar was topped up every day which was great. Karen our TUI rep was wonderful and very helpful with everything. We went on an excursion to swim with whale sharks which was one of the best things we have ever done. We definitely recommend this if you get the chance! (Avoid the people selling the trips by the activity pool if you can as they are way more expensive). Overall, if you do your research about the seaweed then you should not be disappointed with the actual hotel itself. It is closing for renovations next month so should be even better when it reopens! They are adding in a new Sports bar, air con in the lobby and upgrading the rooms. Although there were some things that were not perfect, we simply had way too much fun to even care. We're a party of 3 young women and felt very safe and comfortable the entire time. We're usually ready to come home after 10 nights, but would have happily stayed much longer. If you're after a good holiday get yourself here!
