The resort is in Akumal, 3.86 km from Kantenah Bay. All rooms feature thoughtful touches like minibar items and espresso makers, plus Wi-Fi. Other amenities available to guests include balconies or patios, room service, and separate bathtubs and showers.
Our stay was absolutely amazing from beginning to end. We received first-class treatment from the very first interaction with Luis, who greeted us warmly and welcomed us with two amazing beverages.
That level of hospitality continued throughout our entire stay. Every member of the staff we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and genuinely committed to making our experience special.
The most special part of our stay, however, was our room. It was absolutely incredible. The bed was amazing, the Jacuzzi tub on the balcony was unbelievable, and the shower was fantastic. Every detail of the room made us feel like we were truly being treated to something special.
The entire experience was beyond what we expected. From the exceptional service to the beautiful room and incredible amenities, everything was perfect.

We really enjoyed our stay. This is a smaller, very cozy resort and a great choice if what you’re looking for is relaxation. You won’t find loud music, lots of noise, or children running around. The atmosphere is peaceful, everything is very clean, and the entire property feels welcoming and well cared for.
The food was one of the highlights. Much of it feels homemade and artisanal, everything tastes fresh and healthy, and all of the restaurants were excellent. The mixology was also outstanding, with different and creative cocktails every day.
The rooms are beautiful, comfortable, and very cozy. We stayed in a swim-up room and really enjoyed it, although the pool water is quite cold, so keep that in mind if you don’t enjoy swimming in cold water. One small issue was the lack of an obvious full-length mirror. I actually discovered toward the end of our stay that there was a large mirror hidden behind the bathroom door!
There isn’t a lot of entertainment or many shows, and the activities are fairly limited. Some of them are scheduled right around dinner time, so you sometimes have to choose between dinner and participating in an activity. For us, it wasn’t a major issue because we came mainly to relax.
All of the restaurants were excellent. At Abec, the French restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised by the portions. You might expect very small portions from a French restaurant, but they actually serve very reasonable portions and the food was delicious.
My one recommendation for 2087, the steak restaurant, would be to invest in proper steak knives. Surprisingly, they don’t have real serrated, sharp steak knives. The knives look like steak knives, but they aren’t sharp and don’t have serrated edges, which makes cutting a steak more difficult than it should be at a steak restaurant.
I also have to give special recognition to our host, Tony. He went above and beyond throughout our entire stay. He checked in with us every day, made sure we had everything we needed, and was always available to help with anything. All we had to do was ask, and Tony was there. His attentiveness and excellent service definitely made our stay even more enjoyable.
And I absolutely have to mention Perla at the spa. I had two massages and a facial with her, and she was exceptional. From the beginning, she made me feel like more than just another customer—she made me feel like family. She took the time to understand and identify the areas that needed attention, and her knowledge, care, and attention throughout every treatment went above and beyond my expectations. You can tell that she genuinely cares about the person she is treating, not just about providing a service. Perla was truly one of the highlights of my stay. I actually joked that I wished I could bring her back to the United States with me so she could continue taking care of me! If you visit the spa, I highly recommend asking for Perla. She is absolutely wonderful.
Other than those small details, we had a wonderful experience. The staff was extremely friendly, everything was spotless, the entire resort always smelled amazing, and the atmosphere was beautiful and relaxing.
I would definitely recommend this resort to couples or adults looking to disconnect, enjoy great food and cocktails, be pampered, and most importantly, relax.
Wanted to post a review on here after staying 5 nights at Unico from 9/30-10/5. To level set we’re not members.
We knew going into this resort it was not a party resort and it was a more elevated/relaxing resort. Some of the other guests we met were a little bummed and were hoping for more of a party scene like what is at Hard Rock. This didn’t bother us, we really enjoyed the mix of down time and what activities they had going on throughout our stay.
Also knew the seaweed was going to be bad this time of year so and that the beach was not as large as other resorts. This also did not bother as we are more “pool people” than beach people.
Food was 10/10 and we never got sick, definitely get the Ceviche by the pool. And Avec was our favorite, with great offerings like the duck and beef wellington. We are foodies and this definitely didn’t disappoint.
Cocktails as well were 10/10 they would make anything you ask for and had fun unique drink offerings on their bar cart in the back corner of the lobby. Bring a tumbler!! Pool swim up bars were also fun they really worked hard to get people their drinks as fast as possible. Ask for Lucia or “Lucy” as she goes by also, she made us feel right at home at the pool and she hustled to make sure we were taken care of everyday!
Service was also impeccable. The staff was quick and efficient the whole time, definitely ask for turndown service every night and we left gifts for the housekeeping to take back their families.
Overall, we would definitely come back it’s a great hotel with good food, drinks and excellent service.
Beautiful location and lovely atmosphere! The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the service was pristine. Quiet and private with lovely amenities and different pool options based on noise preference. We were celebrating our honeymoon and they took great care of us and made it even more special. Zuleima was our local host and she was phenomenal. We’ll definitely be back!
Our host Laura was fantastic. She was on top of everything during our stay. Laura made our stay very memorable, enjoyable and comfortable. I would also like to say that all of our pool concierge Diego, Alam y and Gustavo did fantastic jobs as well. They all went out of their way to make our stay at Unico awesome.
