Chaweng Bay View Resort

TripAdvisor Review
Thailand, South East Asia
Chaweng

The resort is located around 1.8 km to the north of Chaweng Beach, with spectacular views over Chaweng Bay and Matlang Island. It is just minutes away from the city centre and nightlife hub, yet far enough away to enjoy the undisturbed tranquillity of a peaceful island escape. It is approximately 10 minutes' drive from Samui Airport.

Comprising 20 rooms set amongst the beautiful landscaped tropical gardens, the resort is a holiday retreat perfect for couples and families who are looking for a place to spend quality time together. The resort features an outdoor restaurant with spectacular views, and a jeep and motorbike rental service. Those arriving by car may leave their vehicles in the hotel's 24-hour car park. Room and laundry services are available. Guests can stay connected during their stay thanks to the wireless Internet access provided. Visited are greeted in the lobby and can enjoy a drink in the bar.

All rooms are spacious and individually furnished with traditional Thai furniture and artwork. Each room offers a large covered terrace, en suite bathroom with hot and cold water shower, individually regulated air conditioning, a minibar and fridge. Further standard in-room amenities include an international direct dial telephone, satellite TV and daily cleaning service. There is an in-room safe for the storage of valuables.

The outdoor swimming pool is connected to a children's swimming area, making it perfect for families to enjoy the water together. Guests can also relax on the sun loungers provided.

The resort's restaurant is set on the hillside and provides a panoramic view of the ocean and Koh Matlang. It offers Thai and European cuisine as well as local Samui specialities. Breakfast is served in the morning, and lunch and dinner can be enjoyed à la carte.

Very beautiful location

This was a pleasant surprise as we only stayed one night before our flight home. The beautiful room had glass on two sides and a stunning view over the bay. Big and comfortable and the staff were very helpful. It has a steep driveway but the reception staff will happily shuttle you to your room. excellent value for money

Hotel itself is nice, but service and attitude makes it not a great value for money

Overall property is new, spacious, clean and stylish. The view from the pool is amazing, as well the pool itself. The room has a big comfortable bed, AC, TV and good bathroom. It’s great to have also a small terrace to enjoy outdoor coffee. Staff is nice, kind and polite, but not yet very qualified in some questions.

  • The property is located on a steep hill and it’s quite challenging to go up and down all the time. There is a “golf”-car available at the property but unfortunately it was not available all the time. When we ordered taxi to check out in the morning no one came to help us with luggage, so we had to roll them carefully from the hill ourselves.
  • Breakfast is good but not very diverse, meat options were poor quality and taste, coffee and eggs you have to order separately and it was not served every time, sometimes it was forgotten.
  • No drying rack available at the room or terrace, so there is no good way to dry your swimming suit or towels. We had to ask for an option and we got one, but it was quite used and in some stains.
  • A painting workshop next to the reception: every time you pass the entrance and go to your villa you are risking to be sprayed with some paint or oil as it’s just paint sprayed outdoor right there where everyone is walking.
  • Very strict rules at the pool area: we brought once a bottle of water from the room (the one offered by hotel itslef) and we immediately were asked to remove it as “the boss doesn’t allow any food or drinks that are not purchased at the cafe”. I get the policy, but it’s a hotel water and it felt immediately like we are there not to relax but to be supervised, which didn’t feel good.
  • The worst is cleaning: we had to go down the hill to the reception every time to ask to clean our room, as it was always forgotten. They kept asking us if we put a sign to make the room and for 4 days in a row we kept asking them for that sign because it was nowhere there. After 5 days we finally got the sign but no matter if you put it or not, room is still not cleaned. Even when we went again to ask to clean and bring some fresh towels after 3 days of usage, the request was still ignored. So we had to keep old and damp towels along with the full garbage bins and no toilet paper. That’s not what you expect when you book this kind of hotel and “Deluxe” villa
  • Bathroom floor is not tiled, but painted, and it’s already flaking so you will shower with paint flakes around you which can cause draining isssues

Appalling experience with Chaweng Bay View Resort

I’m sharing this on behalf of a close friend regarding his experience at Chaweng Bay View Resort in Koh Samui, managed by the owner known as Smith.

My friend paid THB 50,000 upfront for a one-month stay in a private accommodation, based on assurances and trust that the room would be suitable for living and work.

What he actually got was a small, mouldy room, with air-conditioning that did not function properly, electrical issues, and conditions that were nowhere near what you would reasonably expect for that price in Koh Samui or even the remote standard it was portrayed to have.

To be clear - he wasn’t demanding, or unreasonable. He repeatedly raised the issues, clearly stating what he expected for THB 50,000: a working air-con, a clean room, and basic comfort. These are not luxury demands. They are bare minimum.

Repairs were promised, delayed, half-done, or passed around through miscommunication. Despite his efforts to streamline communication and work with one point of contact, the situation dragged on without resolution.

Then came the part that crossed every line.

While my friend was temporarily out of the country, and before the agreed lease period had ended, his personal belongings were removed from the room without his consent or prior notice.

No call. No warning. No discussion.

His belongings were handed to a third party, even though he had paid for the full period and had not surrendered possession.

Imagine paying THB 50,000, trusting someone’s word, leaving briefly, and returning to find that your space has been entered and your belongings removed as if your agreement meant nothing.

This wasn’t a misunderstanding. It was a unilateral decision that left him distressed, displaced, and scrambling to understand what had just happened.

This isn’t about the façade that’s put up in front of guests, or how welcoming a place appears on the surface. That part is easy to curate.

What matters is how people are treated when something goes wrong, when repairs are needed, when expectations aren’t met, or when a guest isn’t physically present to advocate for themselves.

What happened here is disappointing because it’s not unique to one place or one country. This could happen anywhere in the world when there is a lack of accountability, clear agreements, and respect for basic boundaries.

Hospitality isn’t about smiles, views, or promises made at check-in. It’s about what you do when no one is watching, when a guest is vulnerable, and when trust would be easier to honour than to abuse.

THB 50,000 should never buy mould, displacement, and silence. It should buy basic decency.

Very uncomfortable stay due to management’s conduct

I recently stayed at this resort, and unfortunately, it was a very unsettling experience. While the location has potential, the management style of Director Smith made me feel extremely uncomfortable as a guest. During my stay, I witnessed a very toxic and unprofessional environment. Seeing how the management treats people and their public conduct regarding personal privacy was a massive red flag. As a traveler, I value staying at places that maintain ethical standards and professional integrity, but I did not find that here. The atmosphere felt tense and unprofessional, which completely ruined the relaxing vibe I expected. For my own peace of mind and ethical reasons, I would not choose to return here. I strongly suggest others to consider the management's reputation before booking.
