Worst hotel one can ever stay at. Hotel scams as they charge you a fee of limo but arranges normal taxi and makes you wait at the airport. They charge you for extra water which us ridiculous. The lenins and bath towels had stains which was not nice at all. Staff at the restaurant is polite but lady at the reception and Mr. Vichai at front desk are very rude people, no wonder there are so less people in the hotel.
Overall not even 1 star, beware and read reviews before u stay.
Seeing the other reviews written recently I feel it prudent to give a different perspective. Frankly, they are right in saying that the area is rather quiet and that the hotel itself, is also quiet. That being said it is important to recognise and reward the incredible amount of hard-work and dedication the people who work here have clearly put in to make this hotel better. From my viewpoint it very much seems like the hotel's weaker points are reflective of a local area without the critical mass of tourists needed to sustain stronger tourist infrastructure. It is worth noting that we were visiting in the off season and paid >50$ per night for our room
Here's a list of positives and negatives
Positives:
1- Breakfast selection is very impressive given the price and we found the stations (particularly the fresh eggs and fruit sections) to be well stocked and tasty. We also did not get sick as a result of any of the food which is noteworthy as one of our travelling group is extremely susceptible to that. Props!
2- The hotel itself is GORGEOUS. From the grand, Thai-inspired exterior facade to the rooms (Especially the bathrooms!) You truly can have a 5 star experience for far below market rate prices
3- the staff are super welcoming and accommodating. Golf kart rides are offered from the lobby directly to your room!
4- rentals! Trust me on this one, if yoy are staying, take the rental bicycles out for a spin. The area is so peaceful and quiet that short little bike trips by the coast feel incredibly peaceful
5- I know I said it before, but the bathrooms, hot damn. The tubs are the largest I've ever seen and have fantastic water pressure and heat, despite their size they fill in only a couple of minutes!
Negatives: 1- The area is kinda isolated. If you have a moped rental youll have no issues but if not you may run out of stuff to do after a few days. That being said, if you're on a couples retreat and want the feeling of having a private beach to yourself, you can certainly have that here
2- The lobby is super far away from some rooms which can create some issues. One night during our stay there was a woman in an argument with her partner beating down the door of their hotel room for quite some time, prompting a response from the guests on the corridor as the lobby was too far away to deal with the problem in a timely manner
3- some stains on the bedding. Nothing major and easy to ignore, but just something for the hotel to be mindful of in the future 😊 4-closed facilities. There are numerous restaraunts, pool bars, swim-up bars etc that clearly never opened. This is a shame as they are just kind of left there, giving the place the impression that they are abandoned
Overall we really enjoyed our stay, we would stay again and we really hope that this place starts seeing the number of visitors it deserves so that the owners can throw some more money at it and get all of the cool facilities on property open!
Our Family stayed in mid Aug. The Thai vibe was cool. We had issues with our entry key that took several visit to resolve. The rooms could use a bit of cleaning of the lights as one could see the dirt inside the globes. The breakfast was good. Not able to swim the beach. Not much to do around but tuk tuks available.
Nothing worked, constantly on the phone getting things fixed. Staying one night close to airport would rather sleep at the airport. Only given 2 bottles of water after that you had to pay for it. After a beautiful holiday in Koh Sumai and Surin Beach ended here for our last night so disappointed 😢
I despair of the negativity in many of the reviews; this hotel served our needs admirably.
The Thai tourist industry is still struggling to recover after COVID and the staff here are working very hard to maintain and improve facilities.
The rooms are spacious and beds comfortable, the grounds are beautiful. The pools are clean and the water play park for children is delightful.
The lovely beach is virtually deserted and only 50 meters away.
We enjoyed our meals and all staff were friendly and helpful at all times.
But if you want night life and a lively atmosphere, I suggest you book a hotel elsewhere.
Thank you to all at Maikaho Palm Beach, your hotel offered us excellent value for money. All the best to you in the future.
