I hadn't been to Barbados before ( although i have been to quite a few Caribbean islands ) so did not know how to play accommodation. Blue Orchid is mid range ( upper budget ) hotel south of Bridgetown. I hired a car so we could see the island...
Its very easy to get around, both by car and public transport. In future i might not bother with the car. The hotel is a bit dated / tired. The kitchen area (we had a 2 bed apartment on ground floor) was small and had only very basic cooking equipment. We had planned on eating in a few nights but in the end went out each night. The cooker was just a little too basic and there was no BBQ or anything like that. On the other hand a lot of the other residents ( mainly 60+) did seem to eat in , they all seemed to be there for multi week breaks from North America. Room was clean though so no complaints there. There were no sunbeds that i could get my hands on after 8-9 am. So if you were not sure what you were going to do that day and then decided to stay on their beach it would be too late to get beds WITH parasols. Many seemed unoccupied but with towels on. Staff friendly enough, supermarkets ( 2) were walkable as were a couple of restaurants and the Tiki Bar ( reasonable for late night drink / snack) . Also went on a splurge to Champers Restaurant 100 yards away - superb - but pricey! On the whole it was OK but having now been and travelled around the island i would definitely go Airbnb, lots of really good apartments for rent with what appears very good furnishings / kitchens, and for same or less money.
