Golden Sands, “ More Like a Nightmare!
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. This is hands down the filthiest hotel I’ve ever stepped foot in.
Bugs in the bed. Cockroaches on the floor. Lizards in the room. I had to change rooms immediately because the bed linen was crawling with insects. The patio window was so filthy you could barely see out - they only cleaned the part not covered by the curtain!
The whole place looked like it hadn’t been updated since the 1960’s, stippled walls, ancient furniture, and a kitchen so poorly equipped that even washing detergent was nowhere to be found. No hot water in the shower, kitchen, or hand basin. Towels? More like disgusting rags. Sheets? Crumpled and refused to be ironed.
The staff were a joke. One housemaid, Ester, blatantly asked me, “What you going to give me? Are you rich?” and lingered around waiting for a tip. Meanwhile, Brenda at reception was the only one with an ounce of decency, apologizing as I waited two days for a toaster.
The dirt was unreal. My patio door was so clogged with grime that I had to use cooking spray to open it and when it finally moved, it screeched against the filth. Walking barefoot? Forget it. My feet turned black instantly.
To top it all off, the place reeked of an overpowering lavender stench, clearly trying (and failing) to cover up the filth. I left covered in bug bites and couldn’t escape fast enough.
This wasn’t just a bad hotel, it was an absolute disgrace. Grottie Sands!
Avoid at all costs!
The Dirtiest, place I have Ever stayed in, noisy disgusting, bugs and cockroaches in the rooms and lizards, smell of lavender everywhere to hide the dirty areas, so bad, unironic sheets, maids who ask for tips and asked if I was rich! my first visit and my last, I had to change rooms on my arrival due to bugs and dirty windows , when slide doors open, they screeched with the dirt on the track, dirty floors and towels and washing hand towels a joke so threadbare, kitchen with no washing liquid, and NO hot water from shower to sink to wash basin, absolutely the worst hotel and service 3 days before I got a toaster, Avoid Avoid. See photos already there of the small bath towel, etc.
We have booked Golden Sands Hotel just two days before travelling to Barbados as it was last minute trip and to be honest we were a bit worried as we have seen terrible reviews about this hotel just before we got there but decided to give it a go. We usually stay in 5* hotels in Europe so we have had very low expectations , all we needed was to have a clean room at this point- we arrived to the hotel and staff were very nice and I did mention that we are a bit worry about our room as we seen last minute reviews the lady at reception told as she will do her best to give us good room and she kept her promise! We have had side sea view and it was just amazing ! The room itself was a bit old fashioned and basic but plenty of space but super clean! We have had room clean bedsheets changed on regular basis and there was a lot of polite staff walking around so if you needed anything you could just ask! The pool was clean and just perfect for small family , never overcrowded. The only advise is to revamp restaurant it does look dated and empty , we have had breakfast in there and it was delicious just needed to be more looked after.
To be honest hotel exceeded our expectations, would definitely recommend, thank you Golden Sands.
The overall dining experience was very unpleasant. I found a hair in my food, which was incredibly off-putting and unacceptable. The pie had a sour, almost spoiled taste that made it inedible. While the chicken was the only part of the meal that was somewhat decent, it wasn’t enough to make up for the rest of the issues. I expected much better quality.
Telephoned to book a table but was told fully booked. Arrived and place half empty. Why couldn't we stay for an hour only! Got a takeaway, Souse was way TOO SALTY again. Black pudding was lovely though and staff friendly. Please cut down on the unnecessary salt. Will go back in 2 weeks to see if it's still salty. If so I'll be done with the souse there!
