Most Barbadians associate Golden sands for its lively Rum and Souse and Karaoke on Saturdays. As for me I usually would order pudding and souse and go collect it. However given a birthday gift as a staycation although it would not have been top of mind, I was very happy at the choice.
We had the ocean view on second floor, the studio room was very spacious, tastefully decorated and very clean.
The staff I interacted with were helpful and a pleasure to communicate with. It was a great bajan experience with real soul food at very good prices!! I highly recommend those coming to Barbados for "We Gathering" in october (christ chuch month) should consider booking this hotel , . Totally ideal for family planned events
We choose the Golden Sands Hotel to spend our quarantine which lasted five days. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable with a lovely balcony with the view of the pool and beautiful garden where we spotted monkeys and cute birds. Having the vast space, tv, kitchen and balcony ensured we could enjoy our time even if we were "stuck inside".
The restaurant delivers food to your room which was really tasty, we also managed to dine in the restaurant when "freed" on Christmas day and, not only the food was delicious, but it was a lovely atmosphere with many local families celebrating here.
The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, house keeping provided all we needed daily and the caretaker was so nice to speak too from the balcony! Most importantly Mechelle the manager took very good care of us, buying some essentials we needed from supermarket and pharmacy, and helping us chase test results which were delayed.
Once we got the test results we could also use the pool which was great and there's a beautiful beach right opposite. Oistins fish fry is walking distance as well as the beautiful Miami beach. You can also reach other areas of the island taking the local busses that stop right opposite the hotel.
I came here for one night, I emailed the receptionist and ask them to confirm receipt of the email and got no response. I went down the front desk and the receptionist greeted me like I was bothering her. I told her about the email I sent and before I could finish, the phone rang. All she did was put up her finger and answer the phone. After I told her, again, what I came there for she told me, yes she got it (again, like I was bothering her). I told her that I asked for confirmation of receipt of the email and she looked at me I was really getting on her nerves. I am a paying customer! You ought to treat everyone with respect.
On another note, some of the tiles in the room were loose, the water in the sinks in both the kitchenette and bathroom were taking long to drain; the sink in the bathroom was leaking and the toilet was not flushing properly. Lastly, the window in the bathroom was not closed properly (I also tried to close it but it wouldnt budge) so bugs came in at night and I had to keep the bathroom door closed.
There is one more issue regarding the restaurant but I will leave that out.
I would not come here again even if I won a free stay. It is definitely NOT worth the money.
Excellent service. Food was delicious. Staff pleasant and professional. Room well fitted with amenities needed. Refrigerator and stove in case you wanted to do your own stuff. Near supermarket. Excellent.
For our first time in Barbados we were looking for a reasonably priced hotel, with kitchenette facilities and not far from a beach. We weren’t let down by Golden Sands. While you’ll immediately notice that the decor is dated and do with a facelift, we noticed that everything worked and the room was comfortable and clean. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant produced delicious food that had us back for more.
