We recently stayed at the Rostrevor hotel for a couple of nights. Having never been to Barbados before, neither of us had an experience to compare it to but this certainly exceeded our expectations!
First off, the location is amazing- the hotel backs on to the sea and has a private mini ‘beach’. The pool, sunloungers and restaurant tables look over the ocean emphasising the idyllic view...
St Lawrence Gap is packed with bars, restaurants and clubs however we weren’t able to experience many of these due to our length of stay and the ongoing COVID restrictions.
The room (and hotel in general) was very clean and well-maintained. We had 2 twin beds, a large bathroom and a small balcony with a great view.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating and COVID protocols were enforced throughout to ensure the safety of the guests.
There is a basic breakfast and lunch menu at the hotel restaurant but there are hobs and a microwave in the room if you prefer to cook for yourself.
All in all we had a very relaxing stay, definitely value for money.
For what was to be a relaxing post-pandemic 2 weeks at the Gap was not meant to be. After reviewing various locations in this area, we thought the Rostrevor would meet our basic criteria however the day we arrived, the ac in our room spilled water in the closet and on the floor. We were moved above to a room with a ‘sorry’ from the hotel manager...
It happens. Yet, during our two week stay at the hotel, we experienced a similar situation with the ac leaking in our room again. This time, someone eventually came to repair it. On top of this, imagine not being able to take a proper shower because you have to wait 15 mins for only‘warm’ water, and having to deal with a shower head that was unadjustable for someone who is 5’4” AND have to wipe the floor daily because they do not even have shower curtain or proper sized bath mat? Before you make any judgement, I addressed all my concerns as they happened only to be told a basic ‘sorry’ by the hotel manager. I gave this hotel 3 stars is because the staff fortunately made up for the lack of the hotels deficiencies. Mavis, Natalie, Glendon and Bojean were genuine and friendly and should be recognized. You would think when business was slow during the pandemic, this hotel would have taken the time to fix their issues and improve their facilities but sadly, no. While the hotel attempted to make the situation right the day we departed, sadly this only occurred because I had to go to reception and reiterate my experiences.. Had I not made this attempt, I would have left without any restitution. For a hotel whose slogan ‘It’s a family affair’ they represent themselves as ‘It’s a family, no one cares’ .
Travelled with my daughter and family (who live on the island) and chose Rostrevor Hotel as we were travelling with a baby and the room facilities were suitable for us.
We had a good flight with Virgin and a great crew, didn't wait too long for PCR test at the airport, the immigration lady wasn't friendly but this was made up by the efficient Red Cap who helped us with our luggage.
Arrived at Rostrevor just before 3pm which was check in time but the room wasn't ready (not too much of a problem) so waited in reception. The receptionist (who had not been welcoming when we arrived) came over and said I had been given the wrong papers and we needed to swap...
I couldn't find what she was wanted in my bag so was told "just look, you're not looking, just look" as if I was the one who had made the mistake in me having the wrong papers. I eventually found what she was looking for and they were swapped without a thank you. Not exactly the welcome I was expecting. I know I should have mentioned it to her manager but having been up since very early that day and trying to keep a baby amused I didn't have the energy. She could do with lessons on customer service from Glendon who took our bags to our room and volunteered to go to the shop opposite to get us some cold drinks. The room itself was adequate, the ocean view great and the kitchen facilities in the room were just what we needed.
Despite the poor Customer Service at the front desk I would stay there again
My father checked into this place in April for 10 day he spent 6 days in quarantine in those 6 days NO ONE came and clean his room #408 He is 75yrs. Dirty garbage over flowing and towels as well. You don't even treat a dog that way...
He left 2 day after quarantine very poor service would never stay there AGAIN. The day he was cleared I took him out for lunch came back and the room was still dirty. On the day he was leaving a cleaner came and ask if we wanted the room clean 🤔. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
