Now that we have returned home, I feel it necessary to comment in respect of the Abidah Hotel to give a more complete overview of not only our experience but most of the other residents we spoke to!
• The Restaurant- the service and staff attitude was appalling! The food was very good on the first 2 days, we were given a menu, the choice was good, our orders taken and the food delicious. From Wednesday it all changed. We were offered a very poor quality of buffet for lunch and dinner...
The hot food was lukewarm as the lids were left open! Service very haphazard and slow.
Breakfast was also a buffet, however it was very hit and miss as to what was available. We managed to have a coffee rarely. Staff were conspicuous often, by their absence, so not available to ask. On the last morning we arrived at 8.30am for breakfast, there were no cereals, no bowls, no glasses for juice, no butter or jam. We eventually, managed to, locate a staff member who told us they were trying to find cereal??? The standard of the cooked breakfast was so poor we did not touch it all week.
•The Bar - it was rare to be able to have a favourite cocktail, as they regularly didn't have an ingredient eg. Cranberry juice, coconut milk. They even ran out of the local beer. •We were advised to ask the hotel to organise Covid testing prior to our return home. I made the enquiry and was told they would get a doctor to come to the hotel. On enquiring about the cost, I was shocked as the receptionist told me it could 200 dollars each. I declined that offer and spoke to a guest who recommended The Crane hotel, were the cost was 49 dollars each, we decided book and attend for our test. On our return, we learned we could have been tested in our own hotel for 50 dollars. We were furious, after having travelled to The Crane!!
We were under curfew which was no fault of the hotel. However, this meant the TV was an important source of entertainment. We had 6 channels, none, of which provided us with any pleasure, they were American news and American sports. The TV in the bar however, did show English football, we requested more channels be made available in our rooms. However, no one cared. In fact no one appeared to care about anything, from the manager to the restaurant staff. The security men and room cleaners were the most helpful people
Information guests are entitled to know was not volunteered to new arrivals - e.g. it wasn't until the last full day of our holiday we learned we were entitled to sun beds on the beach and drinks from the hotel bar! We had initially walked some distance, in the heat, to hire sunbeds on beaches further up the coast and then decided to hire a car as there was nothing to do within walking distance of the hotel. In conclusion, it felt that many things that a guest would normally take for granted, were very difficult to achieve without constant badgering. Please do not subject anyone else to the awful service we and many other guests endured,
My partner and I travelled to this lovely hotel from August 19th to Sept 02nd, 2021. We had a fabulous vacation and will definately stay there again. We actually had a few issues in the first few days which lead us to ultimately have a chat with the General Manager who assured us that he would deal with the issues...
Thankfully he, (Suresh), followed through with what he said and he had a chat with his team of staff. Below are the pros and the cons of our stay:
Overall, I would def stay there again, mainly because the General Manager is very responsive to feedback and guest needs. This is important!
We stayed in late September and seemed to get a different experience from other reviews. The curfew on the island cannot be helped by the hotel and we worked around the 9pm bar closure and early dining. However, the food was a major issue, it was supposed to be fine dining but we were given a very poor quality and lukewarm buffet with only 2 choices of main courses and most nights it was inedbile. I had to ask for a toastie on one evening because I don't eat fish. The breakfast was the same, poor choice and poor quality, lots of other guests were complaining. The lunch was a sit down menu service which was good. One night, again a poor buffet offered, we complained and the manager agreed to us to visit the sister Accra Hotel where we were given a fabulous meal. Strangely, the following evening back at our hotel, we were given a sit down menu with waiter service which was fabulous. Sadly the evening afterwards, we were back to the inedible buffet option...
Not what we were expecting/ booked and certainly not what we paid for. They were blaming this on Covid but why inconsistent? One night buffet, the next al la carte? There was no beach service as expected either. Sadly we were not given the experience we should have had.
A very small pool with only 14 sunbeds for the whole hotel.
On the positive side, the rooms were large and fabulous, the hotel is extremely clean, the cocktails were great, Andreah in the bar was brilliant, nothing was ever too much trouble for him, the staff in general were great.
The island is beautiful, I would definitely go again but I would not stay at this hotel.
My partner and I stayed in this hotel last week and we cannot wait to go back! When we arrived we were given a welcome drink 🍹. We were then taken to our room and shown around. The hotel is beautiful but the staff are even more lovely...
All of the staff were friendly, kind and could not do enough for you. The lift was broken but this was not a problem as the lovely Shane took us up and down when we needed to. Alanna and all the other waitresses were amazing and the food was gorgeous, and even I tried new things. We even met the one chef on the beach and she was so friendly, and I’m sad I cannot remember her name. Andriou and Ray on the bar were fabulous making the most spectacular cocktails. Ray even brought drinks to the beach and brought us lunch on the beach too. The beach is a few steps away from the hotel and is stunning. Catherine cleaned our room and it was always spotless when we came back. We made some lovely friends both in the hotel and locally, some really beautiful people on a beautiful island. We cannot thank the staff of the hotel enough as they made this the perfect holiday. See you again soon Julie and Adam xx
