Yellow Bird Hotel

TripAdvisor Review
Barbados, Caribbean
Christ Church

Yellow Bird is an affordable gem at the start of the bustling waterfront strip of St. Lawrence Gap. This charming 22-room boutique hotel – with its friendly and attentive staff – faces picturesque St. Lawrence Bay, where colorful fishing skiffs bob and waves break on the protective reefs beyond.

The property underwent a US $1.25 million refurbishment in 2015 which included a total facelift to all guest rooms and public areas. The updated guest rooms including bathrooms and kitchenettes have been renovated with luxurious finishes to ensure that our guests enjoy their stay with us in chic & stylish surroundings.

Hotel amenities include a swimming pool and a poolside bar & restaurant, open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Free parking is available onsite.

This award-winning hotel has been named as one of the Top 25 hotels in the Caribbean for Service and Romance. Stay with us, enjoy our fabulous location and experience 5 star service at affordable rates.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Was pleasant from start to finish!

We got there quite late at night but even then the person who greeted us was very helpful! Interactions with everyone were warm and welcoming. I would definitely recommend the hotel. And would stay there again...

Great Cruise Boutique Hotel

Review by Morgan W Noblesville, Indiana

Most local hotels want at least 2-3 day stay, especially on the weekend. Yellow Bird was the only one I found that allowed us to stay the night before our cruise. Our view faced the bay and we could even see sea turtles swimming in the clear water...

Big balcony with a table to enjoy meals outdoors. It has a full kitchentte where you can cook your own meals. Big roomy bedroom with another table to eat inside. It also features a large, walk-in shower. The decor is tropical and fun. This hotel is about fifteen minutes from the cruise port.

Perfect location and the most wonderful view

Review by FrazerKent Hayes, United Kingdom

We stayed five nights on the 4th floor the views are amazing i just loved sitting on the balcony watching the world go by. The location of the hotel is perfect to walk onto the main road for a bus/ taxi which there was never a shortage off. We had breakfast at the hotel which was good...

The room was huge and very comfortable bed excellent shower. There was a huge kitchen and dining area we didn’t eat in at all but great to have a fridge for drinks. Highly recommend this hotel you won’t be disappointed can’t wait to go back

Paradise if a little noises

Review by alanj88 Cambridge, United Kingdom

Stayed in the separate annex of the hotel excellent location most people walking by stopped to ask about it took a picture of it saying it was the most beautiful location literally a few metres from the sea ! Our only gripe was that the local music venue played loud music well into the morning 0430 being the longest. Suppose after lockdown trying to recoup revenue but it was impossible to sleep, as everyone has said the staff are absolutely fantastic nothing is too much trouble.

Fantastic balcony views

Review by Stephen T Cardiff, United Kingdom

Stayed with my wife for 3 nights on a room-only basis immediately prior to travelling back to the UK, having spent the previous 8 nights at a self-catering condo whilst attending the Windies v England test match, and our first 4 nights on the island at the Coconut Court Beach Hotel.

The Yellow Bird is the third South Coast hotel we have stayed at of similar rating, and probably the best of them overall, although each time we have been allocated upper-floor rooms in hotels without lifts. Even without major mobility issues, walking up and down several flights of stairs every time you want to leave/return to your room can get a little wearing, so this is something that it is worth bearing in mind before committing to a booking.

The room itself was large and comfortable with a decent range of facilities, including a kitchenette, which we always find to be very handy, as we like to self-cater for breakfast. It's biggest asset was the balcony, which looked out across the bay and provided fantastic sea views, particularly as the sun went down...

Although well equipped, unfortunately there was little by way of in-room information, and it took us quite a while to work out how to operate the ceiling fan and adjust the aircon. And the safe seemed to have a mind of its own! There were no batteries in it when we arrived, but even after these had been installed by a member of staff, it took them a while to work out how to open / lock it via a rather bizarre double-code system. On our last full day we once more had trouble locking it, and in the end decided that we couldn't really trust it, so kept our valuables with us on our last evening. Yes, there was a bit of noise in the evening from an adjacent bar/restaurant (and also from guests returning their room one night in the early hours), but we didn't find that to be too intrusive, and aside from the issues referenced, we were very happy with our room overall.

The staff were always very helpful and friendly, and our meals at their restaurant (On The Bay) were amongst the best value meals that we had during our 15 nights in Barbados. Whilst we didn't try the lively Mexican-themed bar next door, we used both Castaways and Primo across the road, and they were both also very good, benefitting from idyllic settings looking out across the bay. Plenty of other options are available within a 10-15 minute walk, but we had no reason to check them out. The nearest convenience store is a bit less than 10 minutes walk away, and whilst only small, it was sufficiently stocked to provide us with our breakfast requirements.

The pool area is nice but small, with only 10 sunbeds, which all tended to be taken fairly early in the day. The main St Lawrence Gap beach gateway is around 10 minutes' walk away to the east, but if you go back to the main highway and walk west, you can also access Worthing beach, which is a bit closer. It is a shame, however, that the hotel doesn't have it's own direct beach access and bathing area, despite it being across the road from the sea, particularly given that the bathing area around the pool is so small.

Needless to say, however, we were very sorry to have to leave, and still miss those sea views from the balcony at sunset. If we ever return to Barbados then a few nights at the Yellow Bird would undoubtedly merit serious consideration.
