Fantastic location - odd missteps on supplies and staffing - construction in peak season?!

Review by Clare D London, United Kingdom

I returned to Sugar Beach after 7 years as a post pandemic treat. 7 years ago it was my best holiday EVER . The fact that they appear to run out of basic supplies and have construction running in peak season was disappointing for a resort that bills itself as 5 star , luxury...

The main staff including the butlers are fantastic but a couple of staff in the restaurants seemed very out of place . I wanted to have the best ever holiday again and sadly , i should have stuck with my memories . I hope that Sugar beach can fix their issues, It is an unmatched location on a beautiful island .

Great Stay!

Review by bmorgan135 New York City, New York

We came here for our Honeymoon for 1 week. The location and setting is amazing, couldn't get better! Very luxurious resort, some slight negatives but I think since its a 5 star resort and you are paying top $$$$ you are expecting to get what you pay for.
We had breakfast included in our stay so it was buffet, anything you ordered from the menu was then $10 (if you had the breakfast included deal)...

Breakfast was probably the best meal! We mainly ate in the Bayside Restaurant/Bar, prices are very high but I was expecting that before we came. We had a big breakfast so didn't feel like lunch so we usually ate dinner around 5. Service is quite slow and some staff didn't have a clue of the menu when we were ordering, dont get me wrong some staff were great but for the majority slow and quite. I found the beach service good though, quicker than the bar and were chatty and fun.. When we arrived in the airport there is a Sugar Beach Taxi Stand, they didn't have my name there and didnt seem to have me on the list (after numerous transfer confirmation in emails), the lady at the desk didn't really say much/ apologize but one came after around 15 minutes. No big deal but again for this type of resort you would expect them to be on the ball. We did Sulphur Spring tour, Sunset Cruise and spa (couples massage) all worth doing.
On our first night our butler had booked dinner for us at the Bayside Restaurant (without us asking which I thought was kind of strange) it was a buffet night ($95 per person) and we only ate one plate so definitely wasn't worth it. There is a second beach which is alot less rocky and more sandy, there is lots of seats available and the bar is quite so it is easy to get a drink. We went to Ladera Restaurant outside the resort for dinner and was definitely worth it, alot cheaper and good quality, friendly staff and out of this world views! I did get lots of bug bites there though. Also the drive to the resort from the airport is really windy and up hill, just a warning.
We stayed at a Bungalow, we had a great view of the ocean and the room was clean, bed was comfy! Some paint splashes on the floor, window frames, window glass, etc, which is just silly things I noticed throughout the resort but would drive me nuts if it was in my house, just sloppy.
At the end of the day, its a lush picturesque resort, food is good but expensive, service is on the slow side.

Amazing and Beautiful Resort

Review by timothyf117 Naples, Florida

My wife and I stayed at this resort in November 2021 just after the completion of their renovation. From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left, this place exceeded our expectations. All of the staff and butler's were so nice and wonderful...

The grounds are beyond beautiful and the resort is perfect if you are looking for a laid back vacation.

Rooms We stayed in one of the Luxury Sugar Mill Rooms which was very nice with it's own plunge pool in the back and front porch area for sitting and enjoying the sights and sounds of the mountains. These rooms were located right near the main building and still close to the beach so everything was in walking distance which is so nice especially at night so you don't have to wait for a van or walk up the steep hills to the bungalows.

Beach The beach was our favorite part. It was so relaxing to just hang out on one of the day beds with both Pitons on either side flanking the views. The service was great and the water was perfect for cooling off in the hot sun.

Restaurants All of the restaurants were had really good food and we set all of our reservations before we even arrived. Our favorite was the sushi restaurant and the beach front restaurant. The only downside of anything at the resort is the price of the food. Be ready for some pricey meals, but you are on an island in the middle of the Caribbean.

The Location and Luxury Villas Great

My wife and I just returned from a 7-day trip to St. Lucia. The reviews prior to leaving were helpful, so some thoughts on the trips…...

Lodging - First 3 days at Viceroy Sugar Beach...

Simply incredible resort. The lodging (we did Grand Luxury Villa which was worth the splurge). All the lodging looked great. Each street has 3 butlers to call whenever you need anything. The butlers and really everyone were very nice and helpful. They lodging is on one side of the resort and the beach and pool on the other side. They have vans continually running and the butlers would call one and have it there 3 minutes later. The beach was great, top of the line beach amenities. The only thing that was average was the food. It wasn’t bad but for that type of resort, we figured to be blown away on food. The Cane Bar (sushi) was the tops by far. Beach food was good. This place is expensive but the 5-star amenities/lodging was great - side note, a guy named BLAZE comes to the beach 10-4 most days and makes incredible drinks on the beach. He is not part of the resort and you just pay him direct, great drinks and friendly price…....Little Johnny by the dock put together a great excursion.
