Super Staff

Review by Pat S Preston, United Kingdom

We have stayed in this hotel a couple of years ago and decided to return. The room we stayed in was a rear deluxe room the room was cosy not to big, was cleaned to a high standard every day bed very comfortable. The bathroom was a walk in shower which was kept clean as well. When I left my watch on the bedroom table there where no worries about it left out, cleaning staff totally trustworthy. We only went bed and breakfast but there was enough to choose from a friendly lady made omelettes and pancakes there was english type food (bacon, sausage, eggs, mushrooms etc) and continental type breakfast....

Due to the situation gloves where provided for the buffet to serve yourself (only downside not all guests followed the rules). Bar Staff where friendly. Reception and foyer area was spotless. Michaelis was always very helpful and friendly nothing was to much trouble for him (a real asset to the hotel). All the staff had to wear masks and the hotel had a doctor who came in to do the testing for people returning home. There are also great views of the sea especially the sunsets

Great hotel for what we needed with a few polishing points that could make it so much better

Review by Lewis C

The hotel was fab, me and my partner were out most days so it served as a good base for operations and as such was enough for us. If you were staying in the hotel a bit more than we did I think you may find it’s facilities somewhat limited… the decor downstairs is lovely but the building is clearly undergoing a lot of refurbishment so some of the less important spaces like the corridors were still very dated. We stayed in a Deluxe Double which had a modern style which we both liked and was very liveable… the standard rooms however looked very dated so I would suggest going for the inexpensive upgrade! The pool was a nice size with good sun beds and a nice pool bar which served an array of cocktails and drinks, the only downside is the pool closed at 1800 every night which I personally think is way to early...

The hotel is beach front which is great! But it’s on the windy side of the island, so even though my partner and I spent AGES trying to find a good budget hotel on the beach, we didn’t actually visit the beach it was situated on once during our stay! We made the 15 minute walk to the other side to the nicer part of elli beach through new town (which btw is a very doable walk every day as we did and was a very nice way to explore new town). The aircon could have been colder but that is picky as we were comfortable each night. Breakfast is good for non fussy people but probably not to the taste of people used to more fine dining… full very nice continental options as you’d expect and a selection of English breakfast options each with a European twist lol! (you know, bacon that’s not quite back bacon and scrambled egg with cheese in it… that sort of thing) me and my gf ate well every morning so no complaints from us but may not be to everyone’s taste. All the staff were friendly and attentive as you’d expect and we had lovely stay, I would stay there again but think if I intended to use the pool more or go half board I would choose somewhere with a bit more to boast about.

Good hotel but a few m niggles.

Review by Sungazer49 Northern England

Just returned from two weeks at the Blue Sky Hotel in Rhodes town. I wouldn't want to put anyone off staying here, basically it's a decent hotel in an excellent location, but there are a few things that could be better. We booked a deluxe sea-view room. When we first entered it, our feeling was mild disappointment, it wasn't as big as we thought it would be, the photos are a bit deceptive on the website...

The furniture was made of heavy, unfinished wood, there was only one drawer in the whole room ( which the OH quickly appropriated ) and the wardrobe, if you could call it that, was basically an open clothes rail like you might find in a dress shop. On top of that, it only had four fixed coat hangers between two people for a fortnight, fortunately we had brought some of our own. The balcony door was very stiff and heavy to open and close, and did not have any kind of lock, although to be fair it would have been virtually impossible for anyone to climb onto our balcony. There was some shelving, and a couple of small cupboards, one of which held the electric fuse box but could still be used for storage, and there was a sort of open multi box thing on one wall which was handy for small items like mobile phones and cameras. The maids came in every day but cleaning was minimal, basically they just changed the towels and bed sheets. The girls on reception were excellent, always pleasant and friendly, eager to help and a mine of local information. Most of the staff were friendly and hard working. Where the hotel falls down badly, in my opinion, is the dining room. It's far too small for the size of the hotel, and during busy periods when the hotel is full there can be a queue from the dining room door to reception waiting for someone to leave so they can have a table. The dining room should be at least twice the size for a hotel this big. The food was only average, edible but nothing special, and the choice tended to be rather limited. The pool area, again, was too small for the hotel with limited sunbeds, and as it was on the west side of the hotel it didn't tend to get any sun until late morning anyway. The bathroom with a shower was small but adequate. Basically, a decent hotel let down by a few issues. If you can put up with these, then the location is very good, with views across the straits to the mountains of Turkey, and you can sit on the balcony and watch everything from yachts to giant cruise ships pass by. When we stayed, there were very few British in the hotel, most of the guests seemed to be either Scandanavian or Eastern European. Not a problem for us, but maybe to some.
