Home from our week stay at Sol Cosmopolitan. Great hotel, 2 pools one of them being a quiet pool which was lovely and peaceful and the other which had music and entertainment during the day with Lesley and his team. Lesley very funny guy and he had us laughing lots. Looked forward to seeing him everyday with an update of his antics 😂 The team made sure when the weather was a bit rubbish they would change the entertainment accordingly. Rhodes old town only 10 mins on a taxi, well worth a visit while you are here. We went twice and had some lovely food out. Room and hotel was kept clean and all staff friendly and helpful. We booked the al La carte restaurant and the food was really good. Few shops dotted around outside the hotel. Good selection of drinks on the all inclusive including various cocktails, they also had a special cocktail each day which were nice. Pool bar food was good, freshly made pizzas were very nice. Didn’t visit the beach so couldn’t comment on that. Thank you for having us. David, Jackie, Scott and the clang 😊
I urge anyone thinking of booking this to hotel to absolutely NOT! We paid £2450 for a 10 night all inclusive holiday. I’d read the reviews before we travelled and I was so concerned I emailed the hotel manager to address the previous reviews. He assured me they were aware of them but were trying their best so “please give us a chance to prove that we can give you an enjoyable holiday”… worst mistake I’ve made! Firstly we travelled as 2 couples 2 days apart. 1st couple checked in Wednesday at 11.50pm and they had no room. They were sent to the sirene beach hotel which they said was a similar standard…it isn’t! They did eventually get a room at 2.30pm the following day. Upon our arrival we were given room 168 which is straight above the entertainment so we asked to be moved to a quiet room. I was told “there’s no other rooms the hotel is full..I can downgrade you to a standard room if you like” This was not acceptable and after a few days they did offer us another room which was acceptable. But now let me list our full complaints: 1st morning down at the pool we witnessed a rat running around the bushes at the pool area. The food is awful. Cold, cheap out of date, repetative. There’s signs all over hotel warning about gastrointestinal illness and yet the hand sanitizer stations are empty. The “al a carte” is the pool snack bar with better glasses and running with roaches. The pool toilets are disgusting. The pool is disgusting with a line of green scum all around it. Receptionist (particularly Kiki) are rude and quite honestly could not give a care about you or your complaints. 3/4 of our party became unwell with sickness bug. And then to top it all off there was excrement…human excrement on the landing of room 6! You can see my photos.. this is all verified! Please absolutely understand no circumstances visit this hotel and it your planning a trip then please try and get a refund.
We are seasoned Greek travellers and are aware of its quirks that’s why we love it! The hotel probably is a Greek 4 star but in reality no more than a 3. Superior rooms are new and as such we chose that option. Rest of the hotel is very dated. Location is good, easy access to the beach through underpass and bus stop to Rhodes town outside.
We arrived in Rhodes with rapid delivery of cases……. Oh except one which was still on the tarmac in the uk. Some time later after reporting the issue to Swiss port we arrived at our hotel, the missing case not their problem but not a great start to the week.
Unfortunately, no room at the inn. They are overbooked by 9 rooms. Dispatched to the alternative hotel for the night, taxi paid for and various freebies as compensation.
Returned the following morning and room ready for around 11.
We were aware of the tummy bug going round through previous reviews so we came prepared with anti bacterial/ viral surface wipes and hand wipes. There are notices around the hotel and hand sanitizer available.
12 hours later…….we are struck down by ‘Rhodes flu’ aka norovirus.
Initially happy with response from hotel; we were asked to stay in the room, provided with a leaflet on care and to phone reception for anything we needed. So far so good.
At this point we noticed that the cleaners are moving from room to room with no gloves or precautions despite the fact we had told reception we had the bug. 24 hours later both neighbours have it ( we know as the room walls are like paper and you can hear everything 🤮).
On our recovery we rejoined the restaurant. Here all the staff are wearing gloves. BUT they are wiping multiple tables and chair seats with the same cloth and no sign of cleaning spray, neither were they changing gloves.
We all know that viruses live on surfaces and thorough cleaning is essential to prevent spread. This is quite obviously not happening and whilst the virus is rife on the island, the hotel is doing little to prevent the spread.
On a positive note the a la carte was very nice but now closed for winter!
Overall I would not return unless it has a major refurb and better management put in place.
With the norovirus spreading across the island and the hotel I was worried. Overall, this is a poor to decent hotel but is not worth the price and needs improvement. I wouldn’t stay here again.
Areas for improvement
Such a good clean hotel. We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Sol Cosmopolitan. We had an amazing experience with a great sea view room. All the staff were helpful and attentive. The food was outstanding & always fresh & lots of variety for everyone. Atmosphere was very relaxed with fantastic entertainment.Great value for money Would recommend and come again.
