Ta Cenc Hotel and Spa

TripAdvisor Review
Malta and Gozo, Europe
Sannat

Ta Cenc Hotel and Spa is an island paradise within an island paradise. Set amongst 400 acres of beautiful grounds on the island of Gozo, Ta Cenc Hotel and Spa occupies its own private realm looking down over Gozo and across to Malta and Comino.

Built in keeping with the traditional local style, Ta Cenc Hotel and Spa is unlike any other hotel in Gozo or Malta. It is designed for your complete and utter relaxation; five star luxury is a way of life here.

Five star luxury at Gozo's island paradise – the Ta Cenc Hotel and Spa:

Built on Gozo's highest point, the Ta Cenc Hotel and Spa affords unparalleled views. From this vantage point, you really do feel unencumbered by life's day-to-day worries. All that matters is the clean air, the astonishing landscape and the soothing rays of the sun. Peace and tranquillity reign. If ever a holiday could offer a transcendent experience, this is it.

In keeping with the local style, Ta Cenc Hotel and Spa is tastefully furnished – with lots of real wood and local stone, reinforcing that feeling of being at one with nature. Guest rooms are tastefully appointed, but come with all the modern facilities you'd expect, including cable TV, radio, telephone, minibar / fridge and cooling system. You will also enjoy your own private terrace or garden – just ask for more details.

For many, the spa itself will be the main attraction. In its indoor and outdoor heated pools, its sauna and steam bath, you can luxuriate in peace and quiet and savour each moment. To ensure every single care is lifted off your shoulders, the wellness centre also offers a Jacuzzi and massage service. (While those looking to get sporty can enjoy the gym and tennis courts.)

With all of Gozo stretched out below you, there is so much to experience and enjoy. But you may find that a week isn't even long enough to fully enjoy the Ta Cenc Hotel and its own surroundings, let alone Gozo. Still, with a superb hotel restaurant and extensive entertainment facilities, there isn't really any necessity to leave the hotel if you don't want to.

Visitors to the Ta Cenc Hotel and Spa enjoy a particularly special kind of holiday ambience and a unique sense of tranquillity that is very hard to resist.

The Local Area

Ta' Cenc, an island within an island for those who are looking for that special holiday of complete tranquillity and relaxation.

Built on Gozo's highest point, overlooking majestic cliffs and affording a magnificent view across to the islands of Malta and Comino, it is set in 400 acres of grounds. This very different hotel is built in local style so that it blends in with the surrounding landscape. The whole setting is one of remoteness at peace with nature.

Very Disappointed and not worthy of being advertised as a 5 star hotel

The accommodation fell far short of expectations looking very tired, outdated and in need of substantial maintenance. The following is a summary of the issues we had:-

Door kept sticking and did not fully open Room was not clean with fluffy hair in corner and area under the bed filthy Flies etc squashed onto net curtains which were badly stained Double bed was two singles pushed together with only one sheet over the mattresses Linen clean but not crisp and in need of replacing. TV did not work Side lamp broken Safe antiquated Generally decoration and furnishings of a very poor standard and in need of complete renovation - All looked very tired and more akin to a poor 3 star as opposed to 5 star. Photos on web site misleading Bathroom very dated and in need of complete renovation, Had to climb into bath for a shower and where items replaced they did not match. Towels were harsh and more grey than white in colour Area to rear terrace not used as outlook poor and in need of maintenance External areas other than at entrance to reception poorly maintained...

Pool did not appear to be regularly cleaned with large numbers of insects floating on the surface Beds around pools hard and not comfortable to relax on. However in giving a balanced view the lounge areas and bar were in a good state of repair and comfortable with the food and service nearer to what was expected. Travel Companies should vet accommodation and be accountable.

A Disappointment

The hotel appears to be lacking direction from a maintenance aspect. The gardens, and there are a lot of them, are untidy with over grown hedging, dead shrubbery and knee high weeds. Our room, particularly the bathroom, is in dire need of refurbishment and the pool areas although they have been repaved need umbrellas replacing...

They replaced three during our stay but gave up though there was a stack of new ones on a trolley ready to be fitted! The food is the best bit about the hotel. The restaurant menu changes every night and the quality is first class together with good service. Also breakfast is very good with plenty of choice, hot and cold. Bar staff are pleasant but could be more attentive.

Not a 5 start hotel

Review by cutugno13 Island of Malta, Malta

The hotel is supposed to be a 5 star hotel. Rooms are dirty, lunch (a baguette €18) took over 1 hour to arrive, rooms were not cleaned, no towels in the room and AC hardly working. Service in general was abysmal...

The star rating should be reviewed.

Tranquil base to explore Gozo

Review by AnnieRoberts1 Wembley, United Kingdom

We'd liked Malta and wanted to come back to try Gozo. It's a much slower, chilled out vibe and for a couple in our 50s the island was perfect and we particularly loved the hotel. If you want flashy 5Star service and action- packed nightlife you will be frustrated and bored it's much more down to earth, friendly and very peaceful...

The location is fabulous with panoramic views and dramatic cliffs in walking distance. The restaurant is patrolled by semi- domestic cats who are needed as the place is surrounded by wilderness. Don't bring your dog! We stayed on a B&B basis and sometimes struggled to get a dinner reservation if they had a wedding or a big booking but we used the Bolt app to get a take-away once which was very efficient and we also used Bolt for taxis and there is a local app for buses which was very useful for getting into the capital Victoria (Rabat). After a few days we hired a buggy which gave us freedom to explore the rest of the island which was great. The bar man at Ta' Cenc, Emiljano is particularly welcoming and made our stay special with his dry wit and local knowledge. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. We would definitely return.

Great location but lacks comfort

Wondeful location and views, but clearly something has happened to this hotel. Room dirty, shower inadequate, lumpy ancient pillows and room in need of decoration. Staff friendly and standard of food very good however...

Need to check your bill for 'extras' and 'errors'. 3 star standard but could be 5 star with some detergent and a mop, and a regular cleaning schedule. Feels like it needs a manager and some modest investment.
