- Hotel Viu57

The Hotel Viu57 is a small hotel found in the charming resort - Mellieha. The hotel offers holidaymakers some of the most spectacular views of the island, looking out over the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean or out to islands of Gozo and Comino. This property is a short 12 minutes’ stroll from the beach and you will also find the famous old-fashioned Popeye Village Theme Park is just a couple of minutes' drive away.
When you arrive at the Hotel Viu57, you'll know you're welcome. Do be warned that, given its lofty position and steep hills, the hotel may not be the best choice for people with walking difficulties.
Hotel VIU57 features an infinity style outdoor swimming pool overlooking the sea, an on-site restaurant, a bar, and shared lounge. The hotel offers sea views, a terrace, a 24-hour front desk, and free Wi-Fi throughout the property.
All twin rooms feature beautiful views looking out to sea and over the bay, as well as having en suite shower, satellite TV, telephone & hairdryer. Upgraded rooms are available at a supplement. All rooms are complete with air conditioning, and a balcony.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Boasting Malta's biggest sandy beach, vibrant local cultural attractions, fine dining and family friendly attractions, Mellieha is one of Malta's finest holiday destinations. And yet, it retains a wonderfully small, unspoilt quality, making it the perfect destination for family holidays, as well as quiet getaways for couples.
The first thing that hits you at Hotel VIU57 is the view. It's genuinely one of the most spectacular hotel panoramas I've come across in Malta. Looking out across Mellieħa Bay towards Comino and Gozo, it's the kind of view that never gets old. If you're an early riser, you're in for a treat—the sunrise over the islands is nothing short of dramatic, with the changing colours reflecting across the sea in a way that's worth setting an alarm for. If you're booking, do yourself a favour and request one of the higher floors—the extra elevation makes an already impressive vista even more memorable.
It's also worth remembering that this is a three-star hotel. Once you keep that in mind, many of the small imperfections feel much easier to forgive.
Although the hotel is relatively modern, parts of it could benefit from a little more attention to detail. There are signs of everyday wear in places, and a few quick fixes are noticeable—for example, a mix of stylish, high-quality sun loungers alongside the occasional budget plastic one. None of this detracts significantly from the stay, but a more consistent finish would make the overall experience feel even more polished.
There is only one relatively small lift, shared by both guests and housekeeping. Depending on timing, you may find yourself waiting a little longer than expected, especially during busy periods.
Breakfast is on the simpler side rather than extravagant, but it's fresh, satisfying, and sets you up well for a day exploring northern Malta.
The staff, however, are the real stars of the hotel. Friendly, welcoming and genuinely helpful, they create the kind of atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression and more than makes up for many of the hotel's shortcomings.
The shower in my room may well have been the smallest I've encountered in any hotel! Thankfully, it was spotless, worked perfectly, and the beautiful tiling gave it plenty of character—proof that good design can soften even the tightest of spaces.
One final point for future guests: the hotel's location and layout mean it isn't the easiest choice for travellers with mobility challenges. That's worth considering before booking.
Overall, Hotel VIU57 offers something that many far more expensive hotels simply can't—a truly unforgettable setting. Pair the breathtaking views, dramatic sunrises and genuinely warm hospitality with good value for money, and it's easy to understand why guests return. A little extra investment in the finishing touches would elevate it from a very good three-star hotel to one that people rave about.
Asked for a high floor which we got, the view was overlooking the sea, hotel was very clean
We spent 7 days in Malta in this hotel. The hotel is clean, the room is clean, the balcony, the view. The beds are soft. Note only that the room does not have a safe, and slippers are not provided. Breakfast is good. The location is excellent, the bus station for all directions is a 10-minute walk away. The beautiful church and several nearby cafes give the place a special charm. All in all, a nice stay and recommended to anyone who wants to stay in a peaceful environment and near beautiful sandy beaches.
The Hotel itself is small compared to some of the others, I liked the size, everywhere looked clean and while there, they kept checking the pool, also the staff were always very friendly. Our experience getting to the hotel was not good but that’s not the fault of the Hotel ,(Supreme Travel). the Hotel has a good position with a nice view of the sea, we booked 4 standard rooms, and all were different, two couples got bigger, nicer rooms with front views of the sea. The first room we were given was very small with the small bathroom at the end of bed, there was a problem with the door so we switched to a side room, no view but I liked the room more, a small balcony for one chair, cupboard in bathroom which was convenient and private. Clean. Unfortunately we and another couple only got a kettle in the room and nothing else to make a drink with, which was totally pointless (I thought it was an oversight and it would be sorted when they cleaned the room, wrong, the other two got all drink making facilities and a good selection of drinks in their rooms. I ate in the restaurant on two evenings , and both meals were freshly cooked to perfection, I was shocked it was always empty but they were slow on arrival and the meals didn’t come out together, I’d nearly finished mine by the time my friend’s meal came out. However worth the wait for the quality, the best fries in Malta. Possibly quiet as it’s the start of the season. The breakfast was both good and bad, the continental range was good, bread, cheese, cold boiled eggs, olives, pickles, fruit, little pastries, cereal, yogurt with jams and honey. The hot food was not, was mostly cold, the bacon was nice but random selection each day, bacon, egg , sausage, beans one day but then no beans rest of the week, one day with just omelette, pancake and fried potatoes slices..or cold boiled eggs with pancakes another day..very random. The drink machine didn’t offer decaf coffee and kept breaking down, the juices were too watered down to have any flavour. The reason it lost one star was partly because of the breakfast/drinks but mainly because on leaving I needed to use the bathroom in reception, a person was cleaning the toilet seat and bowl so I asked if i could use it, they kindly left but used the same cloth to wipe the door handles as they walked out and when I came outside they were still using the same cloth to wipe down the sun loungers and little tables ( and there was me avoiding salad and only drinking bottled water to avoid an upset stomach to find out it’s the surfaces I shouldn’t touch 🤦♀️, I had the same problem with a cleaner I had at home that thought it was ok to use the same cloth for everything ) . So all in all, problems that can be sorted easily. A nice little hotel at a reasonable price in a quiet area. Good for couples but not really suitable for children.
We stayed at the Viu57 early May and found it more than adequate in all aspects, unlike the ridiculous negative review from Catherine ( or is it Karen ). The breakfast was ok and you could have a hot or cold meal. The views are spectacular from the sea view rooms, which are a good size and clean and comfortable. The hotel is on a hill, so if you have mobility issues then it’s not for you. Staff were very attentive and friendly.
