Enjoyable stay

Review by David S chelmsford

Stayed with my wife in a garden room which was large and clean with linen changed every day by hard working staff. Found all staff to be very pleasant from front desk rooftop bar and breakfast staff (Grace). Would agree serving staff did seem a little stressed but were always working hard to work quickly to keep queuing down to a minimum...

Never bothered us as we are on holiday and not rushing to catch a bus! Constructive comment: my wife struggled in the room as the mirror and plug socket were to far apart and couldn’t see to do her hair while looking in the mirror she is convinced a man designed room. Also no instructions in the room to work the TV and I was convinced it was broken until the last day when I discovered the on/off switch was a toggle switch. Also little information about hotel services emergency procedures and local attractions these were only minor things.

The restaurant on the ground floor did some lovely meals and was always popular and booking in advance advisable. We had some of the best pizzas we have had in a long while, try the gorgonzola and honey delicious.

Also enjoyed a lovely Thai meal on the rooftop and found portions to be ample. .

We very much enjoyed our stay and found the location great with good bus connections to a number of beaches Would recommend a garden room as others have small balcony or no windows if an internal room.

All in all a great place to stay.

Maritim hotel & spa, mellieha

Review by Paulahugh Berkshire, United Kingdom

We stayed here for 3 nights, it was a lovely hotel. It has a great rooftop bar & pool area with great views overlooking mellieha church & square. Friendly staff, very clean hotel following covid rules especially in the breakfast area...

A little slow & queues for breakfast but lots of choice. Helpful reception staff. Great location. Will definitely return to this hotel on our next visit to Malta.

Wonderful place to stay

Review by matthewn664

As this was our first holiday as a family, we were both really excited and determined to make it special and the Maritim didn't disappoint! We absolutely loved our stay and a special mention goes out to Libby who, after we experienced a couple of initial problems with our room, couldn't have been more helpful, she really did everything she could to make our stay special. Breakfast was great and the staff hard working. We would thoroughly recommend the Al Ponte restaurant in the hotel for absolutely amazing meals...

We cant wait to come back next year!

A great place to stay

Review by SAZ1975 Warrington

We stayed for a week in late September. This hotel is lovely. Below are my honest pros and cons:

Great:

  • Room size...

Tip: book the garden view deluxe room.

  • housekeeping. Every day. Did a great job.
Rooftop pool. Gets busy so get there early but it's lovely, and no kids permitted so great for adults.
  • The views from the 9th floor terrace are amazing.

Good:

  • The staff are mostly friendly, helpful and hard working. There are 1 or 2 exceptions (see 'Bad').
  • Location. The hotel is located on a steep hill. You'll need a bus or taxi down to the beach but there are a number of nice restaurants close by. Try The Porterhouse. You won't be disappointed.
  • Pizzeria. Lovely food but slow service.
  • Rooftop cocktail bar. Lovely cocktails but they are more expensive than elsewhere in the hotel.
  • Shower in room was a bit fiddy.

Bad:

  • Bed was rock hard.
  • Thai restaurant was disappointing. The food was nice but portions tiny. Not worth the price.
  • Bar Manager in the pub across the road (part of the hotel) was very rude.
  • Breakfast. Due to Covid, buffet served to you on tiny side plates. Food was ok but I'd recommend Debbie's Cafe which is just up the street.
  • Due to building work and lack of light, the garden pool was a disappointment. You only get the sun for a couple of hours and it's gone by 4pm. Use the rooftop pool.
  • Changing rooms in spa have no power as sockets turned off due to Covid.

Overall, we loved it here. I'll definitely return but will probably leave it until the Covid madness is over.

Very disappointed

Review by JoeS3530 Bugibba, Malta

My wife and I live in Malta and having worked for a long time in the hospitality business we enjoy from time to time spending 2 or 3 nights at various hotels on the Island. We normally book via booking.com but and we always get nice comfortable rooms with views until we decided to try The Maritim Hotel for 2 nights for our anniversary. We tried to check in at 14:00hrs but when we approached the desk the front office agent demanded payment and told us to go and come back at 3pm as that is the check in time !!...asked were we can leave our luggage it was pointed out to go round the back and look for the luggage room...

No labelling of luggage and the luggage room was left unlocked for everyone to come and mess around with the baggage as they please....having one cctv as a solution does not convince me at all. The biggest shock was when we entered the room 557 to find NO WINDOW or any type of access to the outside world. One would not know if its day or night and no access to see a little bit of skies. We could only see the hotel lobby and we look down on the front office !!! an inward looking view room they called it. Paying 100 euros per night it is completely unacceptable for a relatively small room with a tiny bathroom which I could not even fit myself around the wash basin and I am of average size. During our short stay we even received 2 lesa parking tickets as although the hotel boast with parking facilities the parking garage is never available to the residents hence they claim is undergoing m`tenance. There is no where one could park in the street as it is strictly 45 mins parking only The hotel garage has been unavailable for a very long time and none of the management cares. I went down to the garage and found it full of trolleys piled up chairs and unwanted goods so the garage is only used as a store .So disappointed having ruined our anniversary .
