Overpriced, terrible customer service, poor facilities, checked out after 12 hours

Review by LauraS830 Brighton, United Kingdom

Once I had checked in for our week long stay, it was evident the two bedroom/bathroom suite/apartment I thought I had booked was not a suite at all but a family room; which is not suitable for two people who wanted their own bedroom and bathroom as the room meant that one person had to walk through another person’s room. Also the kitchenette was in one of the bedrooms and there was no communal/sitting space as expected.

I did bring this to the attention of the hotel who took no responsibility (I was prepared to accept that some of the miscommunication could’ve been my interpretation) however their solution was to charge yet another €500 on top of the €1000 I had already paid to have two single rooms...

I even offered to accept a 50% refund but they would not. We had to check out as stating there was going to ruin our long-awaited holiday and we didn’t want to stay another 6 days at that extortionate cost. The hotel is overpriced for what you get and as per other reviews it’s noisy and you can hear everything that happens in the room above.

The fridge, hairdryer did not work. I could not reserve parking and had to leave the hire car on a narrow side road some distance from the hotel. One of the roof top pools was empty and out of use (no pre-warning when I booked).

I never complain in this manner (and I stay in hotels a lot) but I feel I should pre-warn others as this hotel has been disingenuous and not prepared to take any responsibility for a problem and therefore not offer a fair or reasonable resolution. I should add that I tried to resolve this directly with the hotel in the first instance, before leaving this review.

Solana Hotel, Mellieha, Malta

Review by Leigh H Blackfield, United Kingdom

Extremely disappointing. Expensive and lacked the basic comfort, charm and cleanliness. Beds uncomfortable, bed linen had holes in, stained, stiff towels...

Hotel lacked charm. Bathroom looked tired, mouldy grouting, cleaning was dire. On the plus side the room size was good - superior room. Pool on roof was nice and Wifi was excellent. Breakfast wasn't very exciting and we ended up eating out after the first few days. I won't be returning. If you are looking for a friendly, personal touch, don't bother, you are just a number here.

Fantastic stay

Review by elschalk Colchester, United Kingdom

Although it was only for one night due to our original hotel majorly letting us down, the team at the Solana could not have been anymore helpful and accommodating. We arrived fairly late in the evening and the lady we spoke to at reception got us sorted and in a lovely room. It was spotless, spacious and just fantastic.

Breakfast in the morning was well organised and adhering to Covid regulations, there was cooked breakfast and fresh fruit and cakes so plenty to choose from.

Fantastic hotel and staff, thank you so much for your help and our short stay a positive experience.

Perfect place to stay

Review by mgpetts United Kingdom

Stayed here for a week and really liked it. All the staff are really nice, the rooftop pool and bar is brilliant with a fairly young crowd. Gets busy on weekends with locals so try to get up early on weekends.

and the rooms are good too (nice hard bed).

The location is also good with lots of restaurants around the area covering all your needs...

Also possible to walk to or from the beach and a bus stop is right outside the hotel.

Overall, I'd definitely stay here again and am already thinking about getting some winter sun in a few months

Not the best place to stay...

Review by Dawid M

Think twice before you book the hotel. It is ok and the staff is great and very helpfull, however if you are lookong for the quiet place to stay, beware. The walls are thin and all floors are tiled...

You can hear everything all day and night. People moving chars, shouting and stomping. You will not get any good night sleep there. Especially when idiots arrive for they drinking holidays. Parties all night long. So avoid the place even though Mellieha is a quiet place itself. I'm glad I didn't stay long but still were looking for the other place to stay. It was my first and the last time there. However staff is the best thing you can encounter in this hotel. Food at the other hand was just ok.
