Tivoli Lagos

Portugal, Europe

Occupying a central location in the Algarve city of Lagos, it's close to the marina and old town. It is a 10-minute drive from gorgeous beaches too and airport is less than 30 minutes away by car. Hotel has several restaurants, including a classic and authentic national eatery that comes highly recommended. At the main pub, guests can enjoy an aperitif or live music evenings. Guests love the many quirky indoor and outdoor public spaces, and the hotel's Beach Club on the white sands of Meia Praia is the perfect spot for pool parties and weddings.Combine history and culture with beachside bliss when guests holiday at the stylish hotel. The hotel's elegant rooms all have a balcony or terrace that overlooks the resort, Lagos or Atlantic Ocean. Our top-floor suite even has views that stretch all the way across the city and beach to Portimao. All rooms are air conditioned and equipped with all amenities needed.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Could be better

Review by gazza121257 Greenfield, United Kingdom

I have no doubt this was a nice hotel in the past . It would seem the main hotel building has been looked after but the rest of the complex is in need of some TLC.Indoor pool closed due to structural issues and I gave up trying to get a plug for the bath

Photos could be misleading, dated property

Review by Dennis M Yardley, Pennsylvania

Let this serve you as a warning to either be careful when you book or stay away from thus hotel. I am a fan of NH hotels so we booked this hotel thinking we can't go wrong. It is a large hotel but dated. I am sure it was a nice hotel once. The rooms they gave us were worse than what I can find in a third world country...

There is no way you can sleep on those mattresses, the carpet in the lobby was at leat 20 years old and stained. So we complained and we were accomodated by moving us to a suite upon paying another 47 euros. I thank them for that. The suite was a lot better but instead of two rooms now we had one room, a suite. My grown up kids had to sleep on a pull out sofa-bed. I had orginally paid about 500 euros for two rooms for two nights, which is about 125 euros a night per room. With the extra 47 euros per night, I paid about 600 euros for four of us for two nights, that's 300 euros per night. Even though the suite was better that the original room in my humble opinion it wasn't worth 300 euros per night. Overall not a good choice. The only positive was this man Yousef.

Nice hotel, and very good breakfast and nice swimming pool

Review by WJFr The Hague, The Netherlands

It was nice to stay in this hotel. Close to the city center and after strolling through the city and villages nearby the pool was really great. Fortunately we were allowed to bring the towels from the bedroom to the swimming pool because the hotel didn't have towels anymore for the swimmng pool.

Another very positive thing was that the hotel was only 500m from the city center...

And breakfast was great. When back in Lagos I can imagine we will stay in Tivoli Lagos Hotel again

Expect 3 star and a fantastic breakfast and you won't be disappointed

Review by Clive109

This could be and probably was a 5 star hotel once but is no more. We paid just under £100 a night so not a 5 star price. Supposedly up graded on arrival we were taken to our room that despite appearing to be in a basement had a small balcony facing out into an internal garden...

That was virtually unusable as the Aircon unit was on the floor of it and blew warm air and dripped water that laid stagnant on the deck and the AC from above dripped in front. The room was a decent size and was kept clean by the staff daily. There was a Nespresso machine in the room but amazingly you were expected to pay for the coffee pods at e1.50 a pod!! There's a small store around the corner where they can be bought at a quarter of the price. I've never been asked to pay for coffee in the room when a machine is supplied. I asked for towels to use around the pool and was told that there were not enough to go around and you had to wait in line at 915am when the small delivery would come and only half the line would get towels. The staff said clients didn't return them. Come on people, get enough towels and operate a towel card system if you have to but again I have never seen such incompetence by the management. The staff said they had asked for more to be purchased but none had been sent. So let's get to the pool. Kept very clean by the pool man daily. No waiting staff around the pool unless you go to the bar area. This could be as the decking around the pool is rotting away and downright dangerous. It's poorly fitted and joints are not securly fixed which means that over time they have split and moved. I had to constantly move the warning sign over broken slats in steps. In fairness a builder did inspect it during our stay but no work took place. I used the gym daily which is big enough and reasonably well equipped. However only one room was allowed to use it at any one time due to covid. This meant that you had to book the key out at reception then return it after, still it all adds to the exercise. A cleaner would then turn up and clean down the equipment. If cleaning material was left in the qym then 2 could be allowed at the same time. The inside pool and rest of the spa area is currently closed. There is no reason that the sauna or steam room should be closed I had arrived from a health spa where all these were up and running. It's simply cheaper to keep it closed and unstaffed. The indoor pool is currently closed, part of the ceiling appears to have come adrift but I can't see why this hasn't been attended to so that the facility could be open for the guests. This overall shabbiness is what spoils the overall look of a hotel that is ideally placed in this fabulous city. The breakfast was absolutely perfect with the exception of the machine coffee. A shame that barista style coffee was not available but it's a small point when so much was do good about the breakfast. With so many great restaurants in the town I didn't try the evening meal but if breakfast is anything to go by I would imagine it should be good. There is free parking in an external car park or paid parking in an underground garage. Lagos has a great night life and full of fabulous bars and restaurants. The Tivoli is well placed close to the marina and used by quite a few golf parties that means most of the day the pool area has enough room to laze. There were a few times that all beds were taken but on the whole there was room.
