Canico

The Cais da Oliveira is structured on top of a cliff, making for exquisite views over the North Atlantic Ocean. The hotel is perfect for a relaxing break and guests can also use the facilities at the neighbouring hotels Rocamar and Royal Orchid. A shuttle bus to Funchal is provided from Cais da Oliveira on weekdays (Mondays to Friday, except bank holidays), seat bookings are required. All meals are served in a buffet style, with breakfast and dinner served at the Rocamar and for All-Inclusive guests, lunch and snacks are provided at the nearby Royal Orchid Hotel.

You can relax by the indoor and outdoor pool at Cais da Oliviera as well as an onsite Jacuzzi and Solarium. In the evening, dine at the Lee Hamilton Steak House, a modern a la carte restaurant which offers international cuisine.

Winter Sun in Madeira

Review by Jill J Northamptonshire, United Kingdom

We stayed here in February/March 2022. This is a 3 hotel set up, with Royal Orchid (currently under complete renovation) and Roca Mar. We checked in at Roca Mar, but our room was in Oliveira just up the road. The restaurant & bar were at the Roca Mar, accessed either by street, or along the back of the hotel by the sea view cliff walk...

The staff there were very friendly and helpful, especially in the bar mixing a mean Mojita. There were plenty of outdoor tables and chairs, where you could spill out from the restaurant and enjoy al fresco dining.
We didn't realise at the time of booking that the hotel was primarily used by German guests, and we missed chatting to fellow British holiday makers. We stayed here for two weeks, and the menu was the same each week. The usual salads, fish, pasta, meat & vegetarian options, not much choice on the desserts; so a little disappointing. Breakfast choices were good, with lovely bread rolls, but no toaster available. Good coffee machines, serve yourself. There was an indoor, but unheated pool - chilly in Feb, but would be lovely in summer, and an outdoor pool too, with plenty of sun loungers - if only it had been warm enough to lay on one! Our room had a balcony with sea view, a little dated, but a comfortable bed with plenty of pillows, comfy armchairs with table & chairs both inside and on the balcony. It was serviced daily, bedding changed several times during our two week stay, and kept very clean. We are fairly fit in our late 60's, but found that the hotel, built into the cliffs, had lots of stairs whichever way you went, and was a little daunting at times. Unfortunately this is not a hotel for older guests and definitely not wheelchair friendly.

What a lovely all inclusive gem we have found. Perfect.

Review by Malcolm C Saltburn-by-the-Sea, United Kingdom

First time in Maderia and it won't be the last, as we will return to this hotel.

Room,

A studio type with tea and coffe making facilite, microwave, fridge and cooking area. Spotlessly cleaned through our 3 week stay. Beds very comfortable...

Lovely bathroom with great shower.

Internet

Is free and was available in your room and hotel etc. No problem there.

Food

Excellent choices for breafast, lunch and dinner.

The staff at the bars and restaurant were amazing.

Drinks package.

Wonderful lager which is made in Madeira. White wine was excellent.

My partner tried the red wine/ sangria/vodka and other's and said they were all amazing ( not all at once!)

Sunbathing.

Plenty of sunbeds for everyone. We were on a sun terrace on ou rown for three weeks.

If you want a great chill out and to escape from the masses then this is the place for you.

Covid Curtailed Holiday

Review by Mervyn M Wakefield, United Kingdom

Flew out 20/12 for what should have been a Christmas/New Year break & our 3rd visit to the island in 15 mths. Unfortunately we had to fly back 27/12 due to new covid restrictions on the island.

This is a great hotel with friendly & helpful staff who coped well with the covid protocols. We were upgraded to a sea view room on arrival & it was spacious with plenty of storage space...

The cliff top position give impressive views of the surrounding area & there are shops nearby.

The system has obviously changed since our last visit to Madeira in Sept. 2020 as all meals were a la carte & served freshly cooked to your table. Very easy to overeat as all meals were at least courses. The gala dinner on Christmas eve & Christmas day dinner were superb.

My only minor gripes were that the mattresses were too soft for my taste & the hot water supply was variable. Overall I can recommend this hotel & would stay here again.

Picture Postcard Hotel Not Without Issues

the hotel is set on a cliff it has stunning views over the ocean the rooms are spotlessly clean and are cleaned daily. rooms had a microwave kettle and fridge free Wi-Fi with repeaters in rooms. Be advised this is not the Hotel photographed in the brochure its the lesser hotel with fewer facilities. The restaurant serves brilliant meals a special thanks to Simplicio & Teresa always smiling and helpful they basically run the restaurant in my opinion , it was clearly noticeable when they had a day off as service was mayhem. The cleaners are are friendly but some bar staff are grumpy. Many facilities mentioned were not available such as outdoor pool gym , entertainment playing music or singing is frowned on at this hotel. It is not a good holiday experience and detracted from many guests enjoyment Overall most of the island is very steep not great walking would i return the short answer NO

Best All-Inclusive Food Ever

Review by Wad13 Flintshire, United Kingdom

Stayed here for 12 days in October 2020. We came here on a last minute deal as our holiday to Turkey was cancelled. The hotel was lovely and clean, the staff were lovely, the views were stunning, the drinks package was excellent but the food was outstanding...

All meals were taken in the Lee Hamilton steak house and were top restaurant quality.
