Quinta Splendida Wellness & Botanical Garden is ideally located in Caniço, a charming village on the south-west part of Madeira Island and is 8 km from the airport and 7 km from Funchal. The estate is set in 30.000 square meters of landscaped botanical gardens with over 1.000 species of different plants, tempting the guests to take a walk and relax. The main building is a restored 19th century Manor House, rich in History and antiquities. From the outdoor pool, you can enjoy fantastic views across the Atlantic Ocean and nearby nature reserve Ilhas Desertas. 141 rooms and 25 Spa Suites, distributed in several low rise buildings, a wide gastronomic offer and a luxurious spa.
Note: Kindly note that our SPA facilities are closed during the month of March and April 2021, including the indoor pool. Nevertheless massages and Holistic Therapies are being performed.
Pamper yourself with a visit to the spa, which offers massages, body treatments and facials. If you're looking for recreational opportunities, you'll find an attached winery, a health club and an outdoor pool. This hotel also features complimentary wireless Internet access, concierge services and a television in a common area. The beach shuttle (surcharge) makes getting to the surf and sand a breeze.
Tui booked us into this hotel when our flight was delayed for 2 days due to the weather. The staff on reception dealt with this sudden influx of people quickly, efficiently and politely. There were some lovely porters who took our luggage to our rooms. But during our short stay, which was extremely pleasant, the member of staff who stood out was Terese in the restaurant. She was so cheery, helpful and kind. I hope the management recognise what a gem she is to this establishment.
Stayed at the Quinta Splendida for 12 days as part of a break to celebrate a birthday. Trip was simple from the airport taking around 10-15 minutes, transfer included. Resort location was quiet and relaxing surrounded by botanical and zen garden with great views of the sea. Studio with side view of the sea was as expected, end of a row of studios overlooking pool with a small garden area in front with two sunbeds and a small table. Studio was comfortable, twin beds (made up as singles) pushed together and kitchen area was reasonably well equipped for two with oven, hob and refrigerator. Bathroom with toilet, combined shower/shampoo dispenser and handwash dispensers. Package included breakfast served in restaurant on site with an option, at added cost, to eat at La Perla restaurant based in the old manor house. Quantity, quality and range of the food in restaurant and La Perla was very good with exceptional service from the waiting staff including Teresa and Eduardo. Evening meal menu straightforward, reasonable choice with sushi, Madeiran food and Thai options, all offered at a reasonable price. La Perla was also reasonably priced as wine was included and well worth a visit for a look at the old manor house. Madeiran wine tasting also an experience in the wine cellar for around €6pp. Gardens very beautiful attracting external visitors with quiet places to take a drink and a book. Room cleaning was to a high standard, cleaned daily with beds made and towels refreshed/replaced as appropriate. Supermarket and bus stop just outside the hotel with a few restaurants nearby as well. Bus timetable (155) provided by reception with a trip to Funchal costing €2.60 each way for a 20 minute run. (Return stop can be found in the 'station' next to cable car to Monte.) Funchal has plenty of shops, bars and cafes and is clean and welcoming, prices reasonable. Blandy's Madeira do wine tastings and tours and is worth a visit as is Reid's Palace for afternoon tea. Unfortunately the main cable car was out of service for upgrade etc (back April 2026) but it was easy to get a bus (20,21) to Monte and the cable car to the botanical gardens and back. Botanical gardens worth a visit too as well as the basket tobogganing that starts at Monte All in all a comfortable stay with very friendly and attentive staff, good value for what we paid. The only observation I would make is that, due to the unseasonal weather, the room was quite cold on arrival with only an electric radiator style heater. We managed to air the room through and got a couple of extra blankets. Outdoor pool (towels provided) was cold and the pool bar didn't appear to open. To be fair I think that resorts are quiet this time of year and things were busying up as we left. That and better, warmer weather will show Quinta Splendida in a kinder light. The gym is quite small with limited kit and we did not use the spa facilities. That notwithstanding we had a lovely time during our stay
Outstanding stay within the beautiful botanic gardens and excellent pool and leisure facilities at Quinta Splendida. Food and drink options were brilliant and all dsuoerblyndelibted by Jose Manuel Rodriguez and his chef/restaurant team. What a stunning place to have as our base within Madeira. We cannot recommend it too highly.
we stayed in room 2017 - a spa room which was a very large and nice room, although having waited 6 hrs for it be prepared, after the long wait you would expect it to be fully functional but discovered that neither of the 2 washbasin plugs were watertight so they would not hold water, also the shower door would not shut so letting water out onto the bathroom floor, and one bedside reading light did not work, we informed reception on the first day but the maintenance was never carried out throughout the whole week.
We enjoyed our week staying at Quinta Splendida resort, we had a very spacious garden studio with a separate living area and kitchenette. It was clean, comfortable and well equipped. We enjoyed the spa and indoor swimming pool, the outdoor pool was too cold for us. Breakfast was very good, with lots of choice, enjoyed eating outside on the terrace. Lovely staff but it’s the beautiful gardens make the resort. We weren’t so keen on area but it was very easy and cheap to get into Funchal. Our tip, do try The Small House just down the road from the resort.
