The charming former fishing village of Lloret de Mar is undoubtedly one of the Catalonia's most charismatic coastal towns, situated just north of the bustling city of Barcelona. With a climate which is typically Mediterranean, Lloret De Mar enjoys a warm and dry summer, benefitting from 12 hours of sunshine a day and with temperatures reaching up to 30 degrees centigrade between June and September.

Top attractions

Situated on the coast of Catalonia, Lloret De Mar's golden beaches certainly magnetise visitors, but the town has a wealth of shopping, dining and historical attractions waiting to be explored.

A visit to the clifftop Santa Clotilde Gardens is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in nature, where over 26,000 square metres of perfectly manicured gardens, designed in a typical Italian renaissance style, exquisitely overlooks breath-taking views of the shoreline below.

At the Maritime Museum of Lloret de Mar, wander through a varied collection of naval materials as you learn about the coastal town's long-established relationship with the Mediterranean Sea.

At the end of Lloret beach, marvel at the bronze Monument of the Fisherman's Wife; legend has it, if you look out across the horizon whilst touching the sculpture's foot, your dreams will come true!


The Southern coast of Costa Brava has some of the best beaches and concealed coves in the Mediterranean, bounded by beautiful landscapes.

Positioned in the heart of the town, Lloret Beach's white sandy shore stretches over 1600m and is considered to be the largest and most popular beach in the region.

Sheltered from the wind within a secluded bay, Fenals beach is Lloret De Mar's second longest beach, extending 700 metres.

Dotted amongst the coastline are a series of quiet coves including Sa Caleta - a picturesque harbour at the foot of an ancient castle, where small boats are anchored along the shore.


A region brimming with history, there are a number of sights in Lloret De Mar of cultural significance which offer an insight into its humble beginnings.

Perhaps visit the 16th century gothic Church of Sant Roma to witness its evident Byzantine, Moorish, Renaissance and Modernist architectural influence, where its vibrant fa?ade is adorned with a combination of brightly coloured tiles. Alternatively, observe the 11th century Castle of Sant Joan, whose striking tower is all that remains of this medieval castle, formerly used as a defence against marauding invaders.


Lloret De Mar is a hotspot for multicultural and international cuisine, with plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from.


For enthusiasts of Formula 1, Lloret De Mar is an important destination during the weekend of the Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. With a weekend packed with activities ranging from a Ferrari driving experience, a Formula 1 simulator competition and an exhibition of authentic race cars, Lloret De Mar is an attractive location for fanatics.

During a week in June, the streets of Lloret De Mar are filled with activity ranging from craft markets and street theatre for the annual Americanos Fair, where locals and visitors are transported to the Indiano period, a fundamental part of this town's fascinating history.

Summer months are a haven for lovers of shopping; with fashion showcases and live music, the town's prime shopping district is a hive of activity, with outlets remaining open until the early hours of the morning.

Adventure and Sport

Being perfectly positioned on the southern coast of Costa Brava, Lloret De Mar offers a plethora of opportunities for adventure enthusiasts.

Fringed by an imposing clifftop and scattered with small islets, the cove of Cala Boadella, is a popular location for scuba divers; get a glimpse of Lloret De Mar's thriving underwater kingdom in this secluded destination.

From the elevated cliffs, Lloret De Mar's rugged coastline provides perfect coastal hiking routes. Trail along Fenals' footpath which passes through coves and beaches, concluding at the seafront promenade. For those visiting during the last Sunday of September, an annual beach walk commences at Cala Canyelles, concluding at Santa Cristina Beach.

Getting Around

The centre of Lloret De Mar is largely pedestrianised, so getting around the resort on foot is often the most affective mode of transport, particularly during the peak summer period. Particular narrow streets do however have a steep incline, so you may choose to take a taxi instead and with 4 taxi ranks in the vicinity, they are readily available.

Alternatively, there are numerous bike hire and Segway companies in Lloret De Mar, should you wish to discover the town in a more exhilarating way!

Lloret De Mar has a scheduled coach service for those looking to explore further afield, transporting you to the nearby cities of Girona and Barcelona.

Weather and Climate

Benefitting from a Mediterranean climate, Lloret De Mar enjoys warm sunshine during the summer peak and a mild climate throughout the remainder of the year. Temperatures can reach up to 30 degrees in August and dip to an average of 22 degrees in the autumn months, however sea temperatures remain warm throughout the year, ideal for those who enjoy water activities. The driest months occur during the summer and normally lasts for around 3 months, with the heaviest rainfall following during autumn.
