This luxurious resort enjoys a privileged location right on the beachfront at Caleta de Fuste, a popular tourist area on the island of Fuerteventura. Nature enthusiasts may appreciate this convenient situation just a 35-minute drive from the Dunas de Corralejo Nature Reserve. Ideal for holidaymakers eager to relax and unwind away from the hustle and bustle of big cities, this hotel provides a choice of exclusive accommodation options ranging from the comfortable suites to the marvellous deluxe master suite, ideal for families and offering unparalleled sea views. A wide choice of outstanding facilities is available for guests, including a state-of-the-art spa area with sun terrace and fitness centre, and different sports areas such as paddle tennis, minigolf and table tennis. Golf lovers may practice their swing at Salinas de Antigua Golf Club, a splendid 18-hole golf course with a surface area of 21,420 m2.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We have stayed in Barcelo hotels for many years.....we stayed at the Fuerteventura hotel last year, it was great, this year, sorry, terrible - Read below for the details of a complaint which was registered on the 8th of April 2026
I'm a disappointed to be having to write this review but the challenges we encountered whilst on holiday in April increased significantly and couldn't be accepted or ignored any longer. I wanted to give the hotel the opportunity to restore our faith in Barcelo (we are unique members and spend about 10,000 euros a year with you) and said if the response was not satisfactory and didn't recognise our loyalty and custom I would share it all in detail via Tripadvisor (and other platforms). I have been patiently waiting for a response having been passed from different people at Barcelo and have yet to receive a final response from the hotel or Caroline Deneyer, the employee who was supposed to be dealing with the complaint.
Here's the list and photos for you to review - they depict what we encountered at the Royal Level Hotel/facilities.
Finally - We accept when things go wrong, think very carefully before staying here, we have not had a response from the hotel or their senior complaints team/hotel leadership - Other than that their corporate risk team couldn't investigate any issues without a hospitalisation?? What?
I would seriously consider staying at another hotel brand than Barcelo when visiting Fuerteventura - They dont care about their guests and do NOTHING to remedy issues when they arise.
Dining
We dined at the La Mar Salada as part of the Royal benefits, it was terrible, the rice burnt and my son's steak was served rare (he wanted medium), it was sent back and recooked, but his experience and appetite had gone as it just wasn't edible, it returned looking like it had been smashed by a tenderiser and recooked, same piece of meet, awful.
We booked the Rodizio buffet, wasn't expecting much, but the experience was awful, the starters were stone cold and the meats (except the Turkey) were inedible, we shared our concerns politely with the manager who could see how poor the standard was, he tried to correct the situation, offering us chips (cold) and rice (luke warm), essentially none of the family ate again that night. Terrible.
Room
Made two requests via the Royal Level concierge service, the day after we arrived to share that the hot tub on the patio of our room was dangerous and that it had injured me, nobody from maintenance ever arrived to fix the problem (photo included of my injury and the hot tub) meaning that we couldnt use the tub with our children for the vast majority of the holiday.
TV, also reported at the same time, no TV channels of any description, just radio - no response from maintenance.
The Hotel Services
The Royal Level pool is dangerous, it has a number of tiles missing and injured my child's foot (photo), there are sharp edges and it's going to injure someone else more severely.
Padel courts, closed for days, I accepted the weather had not helped, but there is no urgency to have these repaired, meaning they couldn't be used for the remainder of the holiday. Ridiculous.
Spa - steam room closed and not available at any point, for the whole holiday.
Golf SIM - my children are both members of Golf Clubs with handicaps at a country club in England, it's ridiculous to judge someone on age, rather than ability, my children would compete against any adult who has never played golf before but we we're not allowed to use the SIM, causing much distress and upset, so we went to the SIM bar in the town where the kids were welcomed, with open arms.
The general cleanliness of the hotel is also very poor and not to the standards we expect of Barcelo. The Royal pool area is filthy, cups, empty food carton and towels everywhere. Provide more bins and people will use them.
We stayed in a suite at the Royal Level complex. Fantastic location and facilities.. really can't fault the staff and services.
Our only issue was the room needs a little improvement - it was riddled with bugs which kept coming back, and the aircon was broken/noisy.
What a place! We were taken to our room in a car which was helpful. We arrived in our room and were in awe of the space! There was a separate bedroom for us. This had a large, comfortable bed. There was a large wardrobe with hanging space, plenty of hangers as well as drawers and shelves inside for additional storage. A free safe was inside the wardrobe.
The bathroom had a large sink area with a walk-in shower. The shower was powerful and warm. Free toiletries were provided which was a lovely touch. This even included little dental kits and a shaving kit. The towels were bath sheet size which was refreshing.
The main part of the room had a sofa bed which turned into a comfy double bed which our little girl loved! There was an ironing board, iron, fridge with mini bar provided and excellent coffee making facilities. There was also further storage and a table to sit at if needed.
Our room was on the ground floor which looked right out towards the pool with the sea in the background! It was great! Each evening, chocolates were left on our pillow which was sweet!
The pool area was spotless with an ample amount of sun beds. These were comfy and had proper mattresses on. There was no rush to reserve these. Guests seem to be respectful and just take their time which was good. Pool towels were available free of charge and these could be changed whenever needed. Additionally, it was great that no smoking or vaping was allowed around the pool -this should be implemented at all hotels.
We did find it frustrating that no inflatables at all were allowed in the pool. We appreciate that safety is also key. However, some staff were more lenient than others meaning it caused confusion. As an area specifically for families, most young children dream of having this opportunity in the pool. This was a shame.
The pool was a good depth for our little girl and wasn’t too cold!
The pool bar provided a range of cocktails and drinks using premium brands (part of the Royal package). There were also branded ice creams and snacks such as Pringles etc.
The fact that this part of the hotel was perhaps more exclusive was great. It meant for a relaxing vibe with the best of all the facilities but at a slower, more chilled pace which was ideal for us.
The entertainment was very much chilled. There was a great set of guys who sang one night, but the others were not as good. I think there is more entertainment at the other hotels but we didn’t venture there. We did try the mini golf at the other hotel in the complex which is free to Royal Family guests.
We didn’t use the children’s club on this occasion. The mini-disco was unfortunately not great. It was held in a sun trap part of the hotel and the children mostly sat on the floor (!) for the dancing. Our 8 year old who I all about the mini disco actually chose not to go most nights which was a shame. This definitely needs thinking about in terms of location and what is offered, we feel.
The real thing about this hotel is the food. The use of El Ancla, the lighthouse restaurant was wonderful. This restaurant was about quality over quantity which we appreciated! The food was so fresh. Freshly squeezed orange juice was one example and a hive with fresh honey. The brie and truffle sandwich as an option for breakfast was literally the best sandwich I have ever tasted! Also, the setting of this restaurant is exquisite. What a beautiful view with the option of sitting outside overlooking the harbour.
The breads were delicious and fresh – not re-heated rubbish. The options of sea food including fresh oysters etc were really another level. Even the drinks, many of which available on this package were included with the option to taste first!
Lunch was served in the main buffet restaurant. Again, the quality of the food was great. What made it really special was a small area reserved for the Royal guests with additional food offerings.
The staff were generally great. The reception staff always friendly and helpful. Some key staff in the restaurant remembered how you preferred things cooked, for example. A really attentive service.
The hotel was located right by the beach. Whilst the complex itself is big, the size of the beach meant it did not feel overcrowded. The sea was so clear and calm – a great place for families. You could also go fairly far out and the water was still shallow. Make sure you wear swim shoes as it’s a little rocky in parts.
The hotel itself is located near to the airport meaning the transfer is quick and seamless. We have already looked at direct flights to see if we could book directly with the Barcelo group as we would definitely return. Thank you for a wonderful trip!
Royal Level Fuerteventura is right on the sea front. We were given a complimentary upgrade to a seaview room and it was wonderful. Our room was spacious. Our bed was massive, so comfy and feather pillows were provided. Barcelo stock out the mini bar with a variety of soft drink, beer and cava. Everyday we got water left in the room. I'm a coffee lover and appreciated the Lavazza coffee machine with pods provided. The hotel provides you with fresh room and pool towels whenever you like. We loved the pool area with loads of padded sun beds. They were super comfy. The pool was spotlessly clean. We ate at the el Ancla restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The service provided there to us was excellent. Food choice at both meal times was very good. This was our first stay at the Royal Level. A little bit more than the standard hotel accommodation but we feel definitely worth the extra. All staff we came upon throughout the hotel were extremely friendly. Barcelo run a great resort.
The Royal Level Made All the Difference We've stayed at the Barceló Mar numerous times, but this trip we upgraded to the Family Royal Level and it was worth every penny. That little bit of extra luxury, the upgraded amenities, the quieter atmosphere just elevated the whole experience. The real standout, though, was the reception staff. The two ladies at the front desk were absolutely fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble, every request was handled with a smile and genuine warmth. They made us feel like valued guests from check-in to check-out. We'll definitely be back—and we'll be booking Royal Level again.
