Puerto de la Cruz

The Gran Hotel El Tope boasts a spectacular location with panoramic views of Puerto de La Cruz and the fabulous Valle de la Orotava. In addition, it's also adjacent to the Martianez Shopping Centre, which is less than a five minute walk from the Atlantic Ocean beach and next to the fabulous swimming pool complex, Lago Martianez. The hotel is also only 25 and 90 kilometres from the airports Tenerife North and Tenerife South, respectively.

A fantastic location in Puerto de la Cruz:

Each room is spacious and bright, with a unique and elegant character, where every detail makes a difference. The en suite facilities include a fully equipped bathroom, hair dryer, a television, telephone and air-conditioning, as well as an optional safe and mini bar (at a fee). You will also have the additional benefit of a balcony which will either have a spectacular mountain view or sea view.

The swimming pool is located in a unique setting surrounded by luscious green vegetation and manicured gardens. The presence of the Atlantic Ocean, while sunbathing beside the swimming pool, will provide you with an overwhelming feeling of peace and tranquility. El Tope's staff will attend to your needs at the swimming pool bar and will ensure that you have everything you require while you relax under the sun.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Good hotel does what it says on the tin

Review by jenny c Rhyl, United Kingdom

Good low key hotel. Nothing exceptional but everything of good standard. Food plentiful and hot and rooms cleaned daily and well...

Bar staff polite and friendly. Good reception with lots of advice and knowledge about restaurants and trips.

My only downside was the temperature of the pool. It was far too cold to be enjoyable and only the very hardy went in and even then you could hear their loud gasps. Had the pool been heated I would have been more tempted to stay poolside and would therefore have spent more money at their bar.

Don't pick this hotel unless you are reasonably fit. Great going into town but hard going getting back via the steep road or the 124 steps

Not 4 star by any means, and absolutely not for families . . . (or anyone with a pulse)

Review by smillward37 Coventry, United Kingdom

Stayed at the El Tope Friday 22nd til Thursday 28th October. On arrival, the hotel is pleasant and clean. It sits at the top of a steep hill, (hence the name) which is fine, but be warned the journey back up is via a steep road or challenging sets of steps or a 5 euro taxi...

Our room, 007 was at the front, in the newer section of the hotel, the room itself was bright and clean, but being at the front of the hotel, was really noisy with passing traffic from 6.30/7.00 am, so be prepared to be disturbed.

I'll be really clear, this hotel IS NOT FOR FAMILIES AT ALL . . .there are NO kids activities, or anything there to remotely entertain an 11 year old as was our situation. There is NO kids menu, so unless your child is happy eating pork or some form of fish twice a day, then your'e ok, otherwise its Burger King or McDonalds.

The food itself is ok for adults, a little repetitive, but very eastern european . . eg carrots, broccoli and assorted veg at breakfast . . why? The evening entertainment is terrible, you are better served heading into the town, even at the back end of the season as an all inclusive guest you'd expect better.

Bar staff are a really mixed bag, some a helpful and pleasant, others are borderline ignorant, not wanting to engage at all. Puerto de la Cruz itself as a resort is nice, but again is really for a more mature holidaymaker. If you must go to Tenerife, stick to Adeje, its far nicer and more family friendly.

Better than expected

Arrived early hours to some very welcome food and a drink left for us in the restaurant and checked in very easily. We had a room with terrace (only got sun in the morning so if you’re a sun worshipper need a terrace room on the pool side of the hotel ) room was spotlessly clean but a little dated. Fab shower and lots of storage...

We were all inclusive and the food was plentiful but a little hit and miss for our tastes - but was usually hot which for a buffet is a bonus. Always found enough to eat. Lunch was order from a menu at the poolside - again hit and miss but really really slow service - although the waiters did seem to be working very hard so maybe not many staff in the kitchen, but not a huge problem when you can sit in the sun with a drink and relax. There was entertainment every night - which for us was perfect for a quiet drink (we are oldies) The resort was beautiful loads to see and perfect for just a wander around of an evening. The only real negative for us was the 125 steps up and down from the hotel to the resort and the very hilly surrounding area - but again we are wrinklies. We left very early morning and again we had opportunity for an early breakfast which was very welcome before a long day travelling. Overall a fab inexpensive break in the sunshine and a lovely quiet hotel with very helpful staff Would we go again ? For us no because of the steps but would we recommend to others most definitely yes if you can manage the steps and hills. Thank you for a lovely stay El Tope.

Wonderful El Tope

Review by Sheila E Dublin, Ireland

Delighted to be back in El Tope after missing a year due to Covid. Again the same wonderful welcome by the staff, so friendly, and the food was definitely the best we have experienced so far. Very clean and comfortable room overlooking the pool, and everything we could have needed in it...

We are getting used to the walk up the hill to the hotel, keeps us fit, and we are retired!. Looking forward already to our next visit next year! 😊
