Quite simply, the Heritance Ahungalla is in one of the most beautiful five star hotels in one of the world's most beautiful holiday destinations. 'Perfection' is the word that comes to mind when describing the Heritance Ahungalla Hotel; everything about it is perfect. It's location, its views, its facilities, its ambience. Set in stunning grounds, on the very edge of the beach and a vast expanse of dazzling blue sea, it is utterly beguiling.
This is a five star facility in every single respect. Everything about it is special. Even the view from the lobby is spectacular – looking out over the vast pool, its lights twinkling as the sun dims and crimson fills the sky.
Guests' rooms are superbly appointed. Luxurious fabrics and rich timber fittings give them a stamp of impeccable quality. Furnishings are rich and tasteful.
Comfort is given equal priority – so you'll enjoy a wonderfully well-equipped en suite bathroom (with a rain shower). All rooms benefit from a balcony or terrace and you can upgrade to a Deluxe Ocean view room for a small daily supplement. Additional facilities include satellite TV, radio, telephone, minibar and drinks making facilities.
Half and full board options are available to you. In fact, you can upgrade to full board for just a little extra per person per day.
As you might expect of a hotel of this quality, facilities are top notch throughout. There are two wonderfully large swimming pools as well as a gym and Jacuzzi and then when it's time to start some serious relaxation, take a trip to the fantastic Spa for a treatment or two. You can also enjoy a little gentle sporting activity on the tennis courts, or a civilised game of billiards in the hotel games room. There are three restaurants for you to choose from (and the hotel coffee shop) as well as four bars.
The Heritance Ahungalla Hotel even has its own nightclub. In other words, everything you'll need is right here. You can unpack, unwind, relax and revel in the Sri Lankan lifestyle without ever going further than the beach. There isn't another hotel quite like the Heritance Ahungalla. Looking out over the beach where clear blue sky meets clear blue sea, you'll know that this hotel and this destination are truly special; this could just be your own little slice of heaven on earth.
The Heritance Ahungalla (formally the Triton Hotel) was Sri Lanka's first 5-star beach hotel and in 2005 it was completely refurbished and extended. As a result this famous hotel has been restored to its former days of glory with tasteful furnishings, luxurious fabrics and rich timber fittings. Guest rooms now assume a new standard of elegance and comfort with lavish en suite bathrooms.
The hotel seems to go on forever as it is quite large and very spread-out. We had a corner room on the first floor so this gave us a small Seaview from our balcony. The room was well appointed but needed a facelift as it appeared a tad shabby in places...
It may have been due to a Tsunami going through it. The food was excellent to say the least as we dined for breakfast and dinner most days in the sumptuous dining area right near the beach. Food was very well presented with many different varieties. This hotel does cater for and more towards the Europeans that stay there. We indulged in the spa not once but twice and found out that the spa girls were from Bali. So we spent some time talking about Bali as are regular travellers there. They are excellent spa girls and provide a wonderful experience. The only issue in general is that the Hotel is somewhat remote from any towns so shopping you have to travel a bit.
Heritance Ahungalla doesn't fail us ever. We were there just for one night, however the service was beyond expectations. The dinner buffet was absolutely gorgeous with so much of variety. And the best part was that they even had gluten free bread rolls served. Staff was ever so helpful. And the little ones enjoyed the pool and garden so much. Loved every bit of the short stay
We visited Heritance Ahungalla for a weekend getaway. It was a beautiful hotel with a very warm and comfortable atmosphere. Even though it rained most of the evening, we had a dip in the pool in the rain...
It was an amazing experience. I very much recommend the Mustard Coffee shop for an evening coffee overlooking the beach and the sea. The buffet also had many varieties and was delicious. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable while the bathroom was also spotless. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and a pool from the spacious balcony. TV and wifi works great. This hotel has some very unique architectural designs that made us feel very close to the ocean. I hope we will get to visit this beautiful place once more.
The Heritance provided a pleasing haven over 3 nights for our tour group as we desperately attempted to find flights out of Sri Lanka before Covid-19 sent the entire World into lockdown.Under the difficult circumstances of a mass exodus rapidly emptying the hotel of guests , the Heritance continued to function vey well . The staff remained delightfully friendly and extremely efficient . The buffet breakfasts and dinners suffered a slight reduction in the choices available , but still remained very good in terms of choice and tastiness.
The hotel is well designed to provide an ambiance that is very relaxing , with a seamless juxtaposition between indoor and outdoor public areas ...
The design of the attractive pool fully reinforces this aspect. The overall impression gained is one of airiness and calm. Our first floor bedroom was quite spacious , the bed comfortable, the en suite well equipped , and the good-sized balcony allowed an excellent view of the adjacent beach. The air conditioning, TV, and WiFi all operated perfectly .The only fault we could find was that just ONE electric outlet was provided in the bedroom.
Overall , we considered the Heritance provides a truly pleasant and relaxing experience , and we hope - should we ever be in Ahungalla again in happier circumstances - to stay here once more.
What a superb hotel this is. We stayed for our honeymoon and were looked after so well by the friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them and all the facilities were excellent. Food was amazing and what a wide variety there was to choose from...
The view onto the Indian Ocean from the pool was simply breathtaking and one that we will never forget. If you can find him on the beach there is a lovely man selling tours, his name is Pathmi and he looked after us so well for our stay. His prices are so much cheaper than the holiday company's and you will get to see the 'real' Sri Lanka with him. Seek him out and you won't be disappointed.
