Great intent but poor execution and service - Great Retreat but poor Resort!

Review by eagerAmit Mumbai, India

We took our long awaited first post covid group holiday at this resort around Christmas. Unfortunately, the mistake we made was to head to this property while we were 5 families and 17 folks in all and thats where it all blew up. The property seems to be purely for folks seeking yoga and massage bliss as individuals or a couple, but not for leisure and chill time as a group because THEY CANNOT DEAL WITH GROUPS...

The food was an issue, service was an issue, check in was an issue. While i was checking-in, our baggage had been lined up outside, while we awaited our rooms. It was shocking to see a van drive past my bags while the tyres getting my laptop bag under them. Unreal and that was on check-in. This has never ever happened to me! (or my bags for that matter)

The service just didnt keep up. On the first evening, while we had pre-ordered our food in advance (since we were a large group and as advised by the management), our food arrived after 1.5 hours after we settled on the tables and that too was cold and semi-cooked. This led to a massive uproar with the staff who were helpless as they just didnt seem to have the help and resources for supporting the needs of a group our size. Of course next day onwards, we just stuck to the basics - dal rice, curd rice etc (while on holiday) and survived the rest of the holiday. Also, the quality and taste of the food were average.

The massages and treatments were nice but there as well, the experience of the group was mixed bag. while some enjoyed our treatments, others also had an average or ordinary experience. Also, the resort property did not offer ANY form of leisure onsite - no cycles, no game or sports, nothing !

we were given rooms across the span of the large property and it defied the very purpose of coming together as a group. (despite our prior requests) and final check-ins happened at 5 pm on day 1 (most of the day was lost)

That said, the property per say is gorgeous and the views of the Kovalam waters are magical but u dont experience this view from most rooms.

For the amount we paid for this and the stress and the issues we faced during our stay and the basic food consumed and food quality - it was a waste!

Great love but not true picture of Sanatan Dharam.

Everything is perfect except that the books and painting kept in the room is kept to scare non Hindu from Sanatan Dharam (Hindu). Not sure who has made that decision in the company. Having Beef in the menu itself shows that it is corrupted somewhere to show Hindu is the wrong light.

Picture perfect resort

The resort was very inviting with luxurious room, all the staff are awesome. Everything was so perfect other then food, the buffet spread was a disappointment, food quality doesn't match the paradigm of Niraamaya. Won't even rate 1 star for the food, it was pathetic...

However for the rest the resort offered it's a 10/10.

Deserves more than 5 stars

Niraamaya Kovalam , deserves more than 5 stars . The level of service and professionalism of their staff was outstanding. The property manager, Mr Ashok, was a very kind person, and he has always been just one call away...

Despite his hectic routine, he ensured that our kids got the best from food, amenities and sightseeing. Great job, sir. We are very thankful to you. The best part was the fantastic food and awesome service at the Restaurant. Chef Prakash was one of the finest chefs that you could ever meet. Don’t miss the chance to meet and say HI to him and hear some inspiring experiences. His recipes and personal recommendations were exceptional. The restaurant staff was very attentive and friendly and very professional. ( Jobin, Samson, Swamy and a few more ) I would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you very much, team, for the beautiful time we had at your hotel.

Fab settings for a relaxing holiday

Review by tourwithshailesh Kochi (Cochin), India

Nature has endowed this resort with amazing flora and it’s situated at a stunning location with almost a private beach. Cottages are you wooden heritage style and the team Is friendly. Food was the only disappointment as it’s not value for money and overpriced...

The highlight was meeting Joseph - the security man by the beach- loved the way he was interacting with each and every guest. That’s real hospitality and it was good to see it in action.

Great place to stay and had a lovely stay experience.
