Ana y Jose Hotel and Spa Tulum

A disappointing experience: decline in service and food quality We left our stay feeling quite disappointed. Ana y José used to be a standout place, but quality seems to have dropped noticeably. Inconsistent Service: The food was quite simple and lacked flavor. Also, a beer brand listed on our all-inclusive menu was denied to us, yet served shortly after to a neighboring table, which felt inconsistent. Awkward Tipping Requests: Although the staff is courteous, every team member repeatedly asked for cash tips whenever we signed a room bill, making interactions feel uncomfortable. Housekeeping & Upkeep: Room cleaning was slow and irregular—twice we had to request service late in the afternoon. The property is showing its age and needs better overall maintenance. Unusable Beach: Sargassum is a natural seasonal issue, but unlike nearby properties, there was no effort to tidy the beach during the day or inform guests beforehand. The staff remains polite, but between the food, the service execution, and the lack of beach care, the stay simply fell short of expectations.

An Unforgettable Stay!

What a wonderful, quaint boutique hotel with beautiful accommodations and the friendliest, most attentive staff! I stayed in a room called Agua del Mar, which had its own little private pool. Although I didn’t use the private pool during my five-day stay in July because the water was quite cold, the main pool was much warmer and absolutely lovely.

The hotel also has a private tequila tasting room upstairs, and the lobby is open, airy, and beautifully designed. Its location across the street from the beach makes it even more charming.

Omar, our waiter, was absolutely amazing, and Chef David was equally wonderful. Every meal was delicious, and the complimentary breakfast was a highlight. I loved the avocado toast so much that I ordered it every morning during my stay!

One of the most memorable parts of my trip was the incredible attention from the staff. Ambrosio, the groundskeeper, remembered that I wanted to see a turtle. He actually contacted me twice during my stay to let me know when turtles were coming ashore to nest so I could watch them from a respectful distance. That thoughtful gesture meant so much to me.

Mar, another wonderful staff member, also gave me an excellent restaurant recommendation: La Negra Tomasa, a local hotspot serving authentic food with live music. It was such a fun and memorable experience!

The entire stay was truly unforgettable, largely because of the warm, welcoming, and incredibly accommodating staff. Their genuine care and attention to detail made me feel so special throughout my visit. I would absolutely return and highly recommend this beautiful boutique hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable stay.
