Amazing staff

Once my boyfriend and I stepped foot on this resort it was amazing. The employees were amazing and kind. Two to highlight ere Javier from Tiki Taco, and Marcello from the romantic dinner that we had planned...

They like all of the staff went above and beyond. Every time we were encountered with an employee they always had the answers. We also went during Covid and the process was so easy and fast. Overall had a great relaxing trip.

Go elsewhere

Review by nicoleh0784 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Expect to wear a mask. Rooms are dirty and smelled like mold had to switch room the first day. don’t pay for preferred club; the amenities sucked check-in was the worst...

No beer other than draft, and mix drinks are terrible. Food was okay. Beach was nice. You get what you pay for go elsewhere.

Honest Review

Review by HanBob2022 Grimsby, Canada

This is a budget friendly resort and one that you get what you pay for. If you are expecting amazing food, beautiful rooms - look elsewhere. But as a family with younger kids we had a great experience...

Room - we booked a partial ocean view room and did not upgrade to the sun club. Our room was not great (aside from the view that was awesome). The bathroom had a terrible smell. The shower and glass looked dirty (I tried to wipe it down and it was clean just looked dirty). The rooms were very dated. The last day I found mould on the bed skirt (I would have moved if I found that earlier).

Food - the food was okay. This is not a five star resort so we got what we expected. We could always find something we would eat at the buffet. Since the hotel is at 60% capacity the a la carte restaurants did not require a reservation and they were all fantastic. The pool side grille and the coco cafe were the best features. It is right beside the pool and my kids could eat whenever they wanted. It was quick and convenient and didn’t require us getting them changed into dry clothes.

Resort- There are a lot of pools but many of them require an upgrade to the sun club. The main and kids pool were where it was at anyways. The entertainment staff were great (and not annoying). The kids loved the games and so did we. The beach was nice and everything is a 5 min walk from your room. There are quite a few large rocks in the water but the snorkelling is amazing. The Rex Dino Land is also a really cool feature but it is the only thing that is far from the main resort. It required a golf cart and we had to wait a long time when we called to have a golf cart take us back. Also note that the jungle view rooms are located in Rex Dino land and far from the main resort.

Staff - the front desk staff are awful and not helpful. We are also pretty sure one of them took our iPad. My son set his iPad down and we walked away. We noticed wishing 30 min and went to the front desk to ask and they immediately said no (didn’t make any inquiries just no). The second time we asked they called the security desk and then said no and the third time they said to come back in a few hours and security would review the footage. That was the day before we left and we came back multiple times but security never got around to reviewing it. We had a few other inquiries and were met with dismissive unhelpful attitudes. The rest of the real sort staff were amazing. So friendly and welcoming. My kids loved Carlos at the kids swim up bar and the staff at the buffet would always laugh and joke with them. The night time shows were decent with the best one being the fire show.

All in all we had a good vacation. We felt they did a great job sanitizing and ensuring the resort was safe. We would come back if the price was right but it’s not a resort we would recommend to family or friends.

Loved our time in paradise!

Review by aljay1 Canada

We visited Sunscape Akumal in early January 2022. We had a fantastic time. We were in a Sun Club Junior Suite Ocean Front room, with the direct beach access and Bali bed. We really enjoyed the room and definitely recommend getting a Sun Club room if you can. We loved going up to the Sun Club rooftop each day, lounging by a plunge pool and relaxing...

The bar up there also has the better alcohol. The beach was amazing. A bit of sargassum came in each day, it the staff worked hard to clean it up. The snorkel was so great. We swam out ma y times, just before the reef, and saw stingrays, urchins, eels, and so ma y kinds of fish. Bring your own snorkel and mask. We only went in the pools once. The resort doesn’t heat the pools so it was warmer to swim in the ocean. The restaurants were all really good. We especially loved Tiki Taco. The buffet was ok, typical breakfast and lunch type stuff. Sometimes it wasn’t as fresh as it could be. We enjoyed the nightly entertainment and also did one excursion. Would definitely like to return to this resort again!

THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH IT!

Review by jessicahL2282UU New Jersey

I'm big on reading reviews before I stay at any hotel and the reviews for this hotel were good. So my husband and I stayed here for a quick get away right before Christmas and the hotel wasn't anything we thought it was going to be. The reviews on this place was not accurate because my husband and I were very disappointed...

The first room we had when we got there felt like it was a mile away from everything at the hotel, the room was out dated and wasn't clean. We got a room change the next day and the new room was closer to the main part of the hotel and a better room. The staff was great for the most part EXCEPT the front desk clerk Luis! He had an attitude when talking to me and lied to me about upgraded my room. I had to get my husband to talk to him in order for us to get our room changed. We weren't impressed with the food at all! Some of the restaurants weren't even opened daily and they served the same food every night. I would NEVER go back to this hotel and definitely wouldn't recommend it! I LOVE Mexico but this place will NEVER get my money again!
