More of a motel than a resort

Review by 432reneeb Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Where should I start? I booked the walkout pool room and was told at check in the room didn’t exist. I was upgraded to a partial ocean suite on the 2nd floor. It definitely was not an upgrade...

However, when I went on the website it still showed the room as available to book. I walked around the resort and found this room type. When I asked the front desk about it they told me it was poolview. I still didn’t get my questions answered so I gave up.

Pros:

Nice beach & staff Free WiFi when it works 4 small pools and 1 of them is adult only.

Cons:

Not a very clean resort. Rooms were dirty, floors, shower & bedding. The rooms smell like mildew and sewage. We had 3 rooms book and this was case for all 3 of them. If you get a double bed room…the beds are pushed together. The pillows and comforter smelled the same way. We turned the AC thinking that would help but it made it worse. Very dark rooms that need to be badly updated. Even the lobby was dirty with an awful smell.

Room service is not free. The restaurant food & the buffet was not good. There were not many choices.

The resort is small and if you book a jungle room it’s very far away anything.

We ended up moving to Dream Aventuras the next day. This was after spending the entire morning trying to get the hotel to waive the penalties. We paid $1k to move all 3 rooms. I complained 3 separate times before talking to the manager Manuel.

The pictures are deceiving looks more like a motel 6.

The minibar is a joke and it’s only free the first night. We only had one soda and water in ours. Some of rooms have soda, beer ETC. The fridge was filthy and it look like it had not been cleaned in over a year. The door to the dresser was falling off as well. ALL 3 rooms were like this and others in the resort complained.

The shower and bathroom had white film all over it. The floors were not clean.

For them to be so strict with Covid and mask the resort was not doing a good job with cleaning the building.

I would expect better from an AMR chain. I’m a travel agent and have stayed at several of their resorts. This was a very costly disappointment.

Paradise

Review by 6nataliyam Thornhill, Canada

We stayed for 1 week in April. What a beautiful place. Upgraded to Sun club...

Worth it 100 percent. Been at many 5 star all inclusive resorts before and we arrived without expectations. Amazing service, good food and no sea weet beach. Will come back 100 percent.

Relaxing Vacation at a good price

Review by cloqrae Minnesota

We spent 9 days and upgraded to a pool view room which was so worth it. I would book this room initially. The other room would have been at the end of the property and a long walk to the beach...

We were escorted to our room right away and did not have to play the room change game. We didn't have to purchase bottled water and were provided with whatever we needed in our room. They don't count toilet paper squares and left plenty of towels. I have had experiences in all-inclusive resorts where it has been difficult to get just basic necessities but not here. The Management staff are visible and circulate around the resort making themselves available to guests. The resort is somewhat dated and in need of repair, but we were informed that it would be closing for several months, and a complete remodel was scheduled in the near future. Staff were wonderful! I will name a few: coffee shop-Noeli and Jessica Dinner-Antonia Entertainment staff-all were great but especially Romeo and Alondria Concierge-Walter Beach waiter-Miguel Resort Pros: basic necessities and water plentiful and provided no reservations needed for dinner no wrist bands or badges always felt safe grounds are beautiful coffee pot in room frig always replenished Resort Cons: lobby air freshener strong no bathrooms close to the beach drinks too sweet evening entertainment in lobby TOO LOUD! couldn't talk and be heard lack of bartending staff-stood in line for a long time sometimes We loved the pizza, and the fish therapy was fun. The beach is rocky so bring your water shoes. The seaweed was bad but workers did their best to keep the beach clean.
We had a very relaxing week and met people from around the world. This resort is a good stay now but will be fantastic after updating and remodeling.

very disappointing

My husband and I, along with our son and daughter in law just returned from here. We are a middle class family and when we vacation we do not expect anything fancy but... we arrived on Tues 4/19/22 and stayed for one week - thank goodness...

The main issue is the steps everywhere you go. There are ramps next to the steps but you still have to go up or down everywhere! My son twisted his ankle on the steps/ramps. You have to watch every step you take because there are so many things to trip you. The next issue was the bathrooms. There are none close to any of the pool/bar areas which makes absolutely no sense! The bars do not open until 11:00 am and they all close at 6:00 pm!!! except the lobby bar - it closes at 11:00 pm! There also seems to be an issue with getting bottled water - you get 4- 12oz bottles in the frig in your room. Thats it. If you go to the bars, restaurants, you cannot put your hands on a bottle of water. They will give you a cup of water - not a bottle. We called room service for some - they never showed. We called the front desk - they never showed. We requested more water from the maid and were told we needed to call room service for it. On our last day there they finally gave us 8 bottles of water. They were gone by morning. The food was mediocre at best. We are not picky eaters. And we dont expect anything more than what apple advertises the resort to be.
This resort is laid out badly in our opinion and we would not recommend it to anyone. No one.
