What is more romantic than saying your vows in a stunning location? Many people dream of a tropical wedding and Mauritius is the natural choice for many as it has so much to offer. Help with organisation, beautiful weather and fantastic locations combine to make this a wedding destination that it is hard to beat. With all this in mind, we put together some advice and tips on why Mauritius is a great destination for weddings.

Because it’s so beautiful

One of the major reasons that people choose Mauritius for their big day is the climate and scenery and, quite frankly, these are very good reasons. The temperatures average between 24°C and 30°C year round with long sunshine hours, giving a good chance of a fine, dry and fantastically sunny day for your nuptials. October has the least rainfall and very good temperatures so this is probably the ideal month for weddings in Mauritius. July through to August are the least ideal months because the south-easterly winds rise at this time and, not only does this lower the temperatures, but the winds can also make photography difficult.

Wedding in Mauritius

As for the scenery, Mauritius is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world with crystal blue waters and tropical backdrops. If you want to marry on a tropical beach then look no further, Mauritius is home to deserted, white sand beaches in the Indian Ocean and there is also a stunning tropical flower garden that overlooks the ocean, both of which can be used for wedding ceremonies. You could also take your wedding party on a yacht to one of the nearby deserted islands, a great way to have a very private outdoor ceremony. However, Mauritius isn’t just about the beaches as there are a variety of great places to take your vows, including on board a yacht or one of the local churches, and many luxury hotels have wedding venue facilities. If you want something a bit more unusual Mauritius allows civil wedding ceremonies in Buddhist temples.Beach weddings Mauritius

It’s Luxurious & Simple

With so many luxury facilities available on the island you can relax before, during and after your big day. Why not arrive a few days before your wedding? You can take some time out to spend with loved ones and relax before the big day. There are many luxury spas in Mauritius so you could take a day out before your wedding to relax and ease your way into the big day, it will help to calm those pre-wedding stresses. Mauritius also has a lot of reputable wedding planners, so why not use one to further reduce the stress for you and your partner? Then you can just concentrate on enjoying this momentous occasion.

Getting married Mauritius

Legally speaking marriage in Mauritius is fairly straight forward. It is legal for couples from many countries to marry here including UK, US, Canada and Australia, and non-residents can marry one day after arrival. There is some paperwork you will need, including a birth certificate for both of you and that will need to have been reissued no more than three months before your wedding day. You will also need your passports, proof of name change and Decree Absolute if divorced or death certificate if widowed. Copies of these all need to be sent to the registrar of births, deaths and marriages in Mauritius at least four weeks prior to your wedding.
