The place is very good , the staff is friendly , good views and swiming pool , as of now september 2026 they are renevating the hotel so some rooms are closed , but its is best place for family and couple , dont miss the museum tour in the hotel , where the have the governers gun and things its a 200 year old hotel ,you can feel like the real brithish life

Rooms are quite good. But are very old.
House Keeping is Pathetic, in spite of repeated requests to responce, in my entire stay there was no running hot water for shower, Even after repeated requests no toiletaries provided,
Booked for three nights but have to cut short stay because of unresponsive support.
Milk whitner was informed as out of stock.
One small Shower gel, Shampoo bottel provided for three adults.
When requested hot water for bath, one bucket was handed over and managment directed us to use electric catel to get hot water for bath.
Three star Hotels provided much more ameneties and services then this 5*Hotel,
We stayed at Mount Lavinia Hotel for one night, and it was an absolute disaster from start to finish. The entire property is neglected and poorly maintained. The corridors were filthy and clearly hadn't been cleaned. Inside the room, no air conditioning and had to request a fan just to get through the night. The bathroom was unhygienic, and the doors inside were broken. To make matters worse, next morning our keycard completely failed, locking us out of our room. We were forced to wait outside in the hallway until security eventually showed up with a manual key just to let us in. To top it all off, the valet service hands you a disclaimer card stating the hotel takes zero responsibility for any theft or damage to your vehicle showing just how little care or liability they take for their guests. This place relies entirely on its historical name while delivering bottom-tier service, filthy common areas, and dilapidated facilities. Save your money and stay somewhere that actually cares about basic hospitality, cleanliness, and maintenance. Would never return.
Mount Lavinia Hotel was once one of Colombo’s most iconic and beautiful hotels. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing to see how much the property has declined.
The location remains beautiful, but the entire hotel is in need of renovation, better upkeep, and maintenance. Our room was poorly maintained and lacked cleanliness, with visible mold, damaged furniture, and loose electrical sockets, which was concerning. Service standards also need significant improvement. Front desk staff require better training in basic hospitality, including how to interact with customers, a warm welcome and a simple smile. We also found, staff openly using their mobile phones while on duty is unprofessional. The F&B experience was good. The once-famous Terrace area is looking tired and needs renovation. The breakfast buffet was ok in terms of taste, variety, and quality could be better. A special mention must go to the doormens at the entrance, whose attentiveness and service were excellent. Overall, the hotel has a fantastic location and enormous potential, but the current value for money is poor. It is genuinely sad to see such a beautiful and historic property in this condition. Regrettably, based on this experience, a return visit seems unlikely at this time.
The glorious Mount Lavinia hotel is now gone due to shabby rooms and mainly the the bad maintainence of the hotel. THE PRIMARY reason is that the owner, Sanath Ukwatte, had avoided paying taxes during the past government regimes in Sri Lanka,. and now only lawfully paying taxes to the country. So he does not have money to put to the maintain the clealiness of the hotel. we stayed here as a family, it was not the best hotel, however we stayed there and enjoyed the sea view. After understanding the reason why the hotel is not maintained properly, we figured out that our discomfort for a few days is a small discomfort, and in turn the owner is paying back the owed taxes back to the country.
