The night sky cracks with the sound of fireworks as the clock strikes midnight, it’s the party of the year, so where are you spending your New Year’s Eve? Of course, there are always the usual suspects, but if you are lucky enough to be abroad this New Year’s Eve then take a look at some of the best parties you could experience.
Sydney
Of course the festivities at Sydney Harbour are world renowned and if you go down to the Harbour you will find yourself at one of the world’s biggest parties. The fireworks display has a well-deserved reputation and you can get an incredible view from just about any vantage point around the Harbour, and there are so many ways to watch. You can find a spot and enjoy many of these entertainments for free, but there are so many other ways to ring in the New Year. There are quite a few companies that offer a spectacular boat cruise in the harbour itself and the tickets often include dinner on board. A more unusual way to celebrate is at the Taronga Zoo where you can enjoy terrific views of the fireworks in the harbour alongside live entertainments and zoo access. If you want to party into the small hours the Harbour Party at Luna Park promises live music, free fairground rides and, of course, views of the famous fireworks with a big dollop of festival fun.
Dubai
It might not be the first place you think of when considering New Year’s Eve parties but the glamour and opulence of Dubai can lead to a lot of fun in the sun for your New Year’s. First and foremost watch the fireworks! The Guinness World Record for a firework and pyrotechnic spectacle on New Year’s Eve is going to be attempted in Dubai this year. It will stretch along the shoreline near the Palm Jumeirah and World Islands and there will be 400,000 fireworks that will be set off in 400 locations. For the best view of the fireworks try the water bus from Dubai Marina Mall. For parties try The Palm Jumeirah where the biggest party will kick off, and if you want something a little more relaxed try the beach where you can get a great view of the fireworks. Not only this but many of the beachside hotels will have parties you can join.
Algarve
The Algarve is a great all-rounder for New Year’s Eve celebrations. Albufeira is the place to be for parties with around 50,000 people descending on the town, and this is a superb night of entertainment with live bands and a wonderful fireworks display at midnight. The parties go on until the early hours and the atmosphere is electric. There are so many bars and clubs in this area that you will be completely spoiled for choice, DJs, food, live music and nightclubs, there is something for everyone.
Tenerife
If you head to one of the towns in Tenerife you will find some marvellous traditional open air New Year’s Eve parties. Salsa and merengue can be found everywhere and many towns have fun fairs, live band and fireworks with an infectious fiesta atmosphere. There are also parties at most bars and hotels for the New Year’s Eve celebrations and this can be a good option if you have children with you, but for a New Year’s Eve with a traditional twist the open air parties really do offer a great time.
