Leopard beach hotel and it's horrific service

Review by cheppytoo Lavington, Kenya

I booked and spoke to the reservation team via email and follow up calls prior to my arrival. Upon check in, I was rudely told by the staff that they were busy! Infuriated, I asked whether they had availability of rooms as it was a long weekend that encompassed a national holiday. The staff then went to confirm and left my family and I in the lobby for 45 min...

I asked if there was an issue with the accomodation to which they replied no. Upon insistence, I asked whether we could sit on one of the lounges and partake in drinks as they sorted our rooms. Kindly note, that we were on an all- inclusive package. They agreed. That was a lapse on their end because they should have suggested it to us as way of being hospitable after keeping us waiting in the lobby.

We proceeded to the lounge and shortly after we were asked to return to the reception to check in and informed that we would receive a free upgrade to the Residence villa which was breathtakingly beautiful. I paid in full. We were a party of 5 and one of us missed their flight. I informed reception and they asked me to speak to the cashier. I shared with him and he reassured me that all was ok and we could use the funds for missed occupancy as a credit note. We had a beautiful beach dinner which the hotel had organised for its guests.

The next day, I go to the restaurant for lunch and there was no transition from the entry point to the buffet. I saw 2 line chefs place salad bowls and asked whether I could serve. They just looked at me and walked away! Not one response! I was shocked and dejected! I sat down at one of the tables and waited to see other guests served then proceeded to serve myself. Of note, during my continued stay, I had to capture the attention of the waiters to set cutlery, napkins or take my drink order after 10-20 min of serving. Sometimes the buffet would run out of particular dishes and I would ask if it was to be replenished only to be surprised by the staff remarking that I should have gone for my meals early enough (ie) be at the buffet immediately they start service!!! Another told me that their numbers increased as they were hosting guests from a seminar! Really!! I was on an all-inclusive package! Yet on both occasions they weren't at full capacity! I don't understand how food could get finished during service and they are complacent about it! I complained to the manager and he took me to the pizza terrace restaurant for a free meal.

Very shocked at how bad the customer service here is

Expected quite a lot from this place after reading reviews, got there and first thing I'm told is I can't wear shorts to dinner but during dinner women are walking around in shorts, some very skimpy, was staying at a villa, room service comes delivers food, dishes not cleared until housekeeping come in next day, day of our departure, we nearly miss our flight because our transfer is turned away at the gate for not being vaccinated

Will definitely never go back, even with a gun to my head place is overpriced, food underwhelming service abysmal and extremely overpriced, avoid at all costs

Former 5 star resort past its glory days

Review by 855niklasj Ar-Rusaifa, Jordan

We paid a steep 230 US$ per night (bed and breakfast) and were expecting decent service for this. It is (or was) a 5-star resort, after all.

As far as location goes, the resort is set on a beautiful beach with small cliffs in the middle...

Our room was air-conditioned, very clean - kudos to the cleaning staff - and most staff were generally polite. And despite all this, unfortunately, we didn't have a good experience.

The hotel looks and feels like a former 5 start resort that hasn't had regular maintenance let alone renovation done in 15 years. Among the things broken in our room were the towel rack, shower head switch, toilet roll holder, sliding door, phone. There is one 300ml bottle of water provided per person per day (which in this heat won't last you an hour), after that they charge an incredible 350 KES for a liter bottle of still water.

The hotel was almost fully booked and it was clear that the poor staff couldn't keep up. The breakfast buffet was overrun and a lot of what was on offer didn't looked appetizing. Service was friendly but understaffed and therefore slow. Omelets, beans and eggs were fine, pancakes bland, but salads and fruits were sitting outside in the heat uncovered and with flies all over. For lunch, again buffet, they charged an unbelievable 2,500 KES, and the quality of the food was subpar. Again the food didn't look appealing, with burger patties lying around pre-cooked at the cooking station instead of being freshly made - something I'd expect for the amount of money they charge.

One evening we were lying on a lounger by the pool and at 6pm sharp we were basically thrown out by someone saying "I need the mattress and towel, we are closed now". The next morning we were unable to find any space in the shade by the beach, all sunbeds were taken or reserved with a towel, but noone offered to find or bring an additional one.

It really is a shame. The place has a lot of potential, but just looks and feels run down. I would have paid 80-100$, but at 230$ a night plus the insane prices for food and drinks, I can't give it more than 2 out of 5.

2021 DECEMBER EXPERIENCE.

My family and I went there to spend both Christmas and new years holidays. We arrived very early and it took the hotel the entire day to give us our rooms. By the time rooms were ready we were completely exhausted .Meals were okay, staff was good the rooms were exquisite as well as the environment...

Service was a bit slow I would commend warmly the entertainment team ; the band and the animators did a very good job. The hotel could improve on certain areas such as the Wi-Fi , hygiene (this was observed especially during replenishing of plates and glasses, they came back dirty ) and it would be of immense good if there were several pancake and stations during breakfast . it was a hustle getting some foodstuff .my overall experience was good !

Disappointing for a “5-star”

Review by Salma K Nairobi, Kenya

We traveled mid-January where we hoped that there would be fewer guests after the Christmas season hence better customer service. Here were my observations:

  • Phone in the room wasn’t working which was super annoying. We had to walk to the reception each time we needed assistance
  • WiFi doesn’t work — we reported but it was never resolved
  • Housekeeping:
    • Toiletries were not replaced daily
    • Curtains falling off the rails and not fixed
    • Bedside lamp not working
  • Restaurant service was not well coordinated i.e...

few staff serving guests, some guests ended up serving themselves which beats the hotel COVID protocol. The staff was also not keen on guests wearing masks — some were coughing and handling the serving spoons on one occasion which was appalling

  • Staff at the front desk don’t seem to know the contents of the packages / services being offered. We were on all inclusive package and they were certain that it didn’t include alcoholic drinks until we confirmed with the bar
