Haute Rive

Haute Rive is a small resort located on the northeast coast of Mauritius in the Riviere du Rempart District. It is well known for its stunning scenery and visitors with a passion for diving will be right at home here as there are several stunning deep blue water dive sites to jump in to.

When to go

Mauritius has a tropical climate with temperatures ranging between the mid-20s and mid-30s for most of the year but temperatures never rise to unbearable temperatures in Haute Rive.

It’s pleasant to visit year-round, aside from possible the rainy season which lasts from January to March. During this time, cyclones may pass through Mauritius. May to November on the other hand are much drier.

Top Attractions

While in Haute Rive, you must visit Cap Malheureux, a quiet village most known for its red-roofed church of Notre Dame. The view of Coin de Mire Island is breathtaking from the village.

Another nearby village worth visiting is Poudre d'Or. It has a beautiful waterfront making the perfect picnic spot.

Beaches

Haute Rive is found in the Riviere du Rempart area of Mauritius that is home to many beaches including:

  • Pereybere: Only 150m long, this beach has fine sand, crystal waters and dolphin cruises and fishing trips taking off from here daily.
  • Grand Baie: One of the most popular beaches in Mauritius, it is also home to most of the tourist and souvenir shops.
  • Pointe aux Roches beach: A hop, skip, and a jump from Cap Malheureux, this beach is a welcoming break from all the tourists visiting the village. Due to it being located in the north, the sea currents are strong here, so take care if taking a dip.
  • Roche Noire beach: Surrounded by volcanic rock, this beach has soft sand and calm turquoise waters for swimmers to dive into.
Culture

Religion is fundamental to Mauritians, and there are many churches and temples with stunning architecture to look out for.

The cuisine is Mauritius is mostly Mediterranean although hotels and resorts have many other cuisines to enjoy.

Many of the hotels in Haute Rive are hotels and spas making them the perfect place to stay for a relaxing trip. That means massages galore and some even have their own sports facilities including:

Mauritius is a generally laid-back island with adrenaline filled sports kept at a a minimum. But if you visit nearby Roche Noire beach, you can take advantage of the speedboats, kayaks and pedalos.

Getting Around

Buses around Mauritius are a cheap and fun way to explore the area, but cars and motorbikes can be rented for those looking for a bit more independence. The hotels regulate the taxis in Mauritius so make sure you negotiate your fare before you get in. Bicycles are also available to hire.
