Travancore Heritage

TripAdvisor Review
India, Indian Subcontinent
Kovalam

Kerala is a land of spectacular scenery – of great rocky cliffs and diving valleys, of lagoons and open seascapes, and, this amazing four star hotel, the Travancore Heritage enjoys one of its finest views.

Occupying a superb ten acre site, filled with lush gardens and shady groves, the Travancore Heritage sits high on a 120ft cliff top, looking down on the beach below. It's an impressive setting – no wonder it was once the site of a Royal Palace. In fact you can still admire some of what's left of the palace in the hotel gardens.

Its impressive location makes Travancore Heritage a truly memorable place to stay:

Travancore Heritage is a spectacular sight. On arrival, you'll be greeted with a complimentary drink and you can take your first opportunity to take in the impressive setting.

Built in two distinct sections; the first features the restaurant and pool area, and the traditionally inspired wooden cottages. Each is wonderfully well-equipped – fully furnished and air conditioned for comfort. Then take the lift down to beach level and you'll find a very different look and feel. Here the ambience is altogether more modern. Fresh, contemporary style is the order of the day. There are some excellent views out to sea, and the houses are all naturally shaded by the many palm trees.

The All-Inclusive package offers a wonderfully varied menu which includes all meals and non-alcoholic beverages at the hotel main restaurant. Guests are also entitled to free use of the internet café, and may even indulge themselves with a complimentary Ayurveda body massage and traditional lunch. Guests all receive a discount of 40% on all other beverages. The hotel also offers two other eateries including a charming beachside restaurant which is certainly worth a visit (not included within the All-Inclusive package).

With a hotel health club and spa, a library and even seasonal entertainment, guests at the Travancore Heritage hotel are given every amenity. It's a privileged position looking out over the Arabian Sea – the sort of view that dreams are made of.

Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

The Local Area

The Travancore Heritage occupies a 10-acre site on a 120ft high clifftop overlooking the beach and sea below. Once the setting for a royal palace - the ruins are still visible in the grounds - it is in two distinct sections.

The main restaurant and pool area, together with a collection of traditional Kerala wooden cottages, all completely equipped, furnished and air-conditioned for 21st century guests, crown the lush green clifftop.

Below, at beach level, and connected by a lift, is the Beach Grove block of modern rooms, shaded by palm trees and looking out to sea. A beachside restaurant provides for the needs of those on the long sandy beach.

The Travancore Heritage - The Ideal Place To Enjoy An Awesome Holiday !!

We had been on the lookout for a good resort to celebrate the 60th Birthday of my wife. We finally zeroed in on The Travancore Heritage, on the basis of positive feedback received from various sources. We stayed at the resort on a 3 Days/2 Nights Package, from 19th to 21st April,2022...

We opted to stay in Beach Grove. The room allotted to us was spacious, tastefully furnished & comfortable. We were particularly impressed by the cleanliness of the bathroom/toilet. The room had a lengthy balcony overlooking the swimming pool and providing a good view of the sea.Comfortable lounge chairs have been provided on the balcony.

The grounds are very well maintained, although the property is quite vast. There are various varieties of fruit trees and flowering plants in the property. Being located on the side of a high cliff, the resort offers a fantastic view of the sea and the beach. Several benches have been provided on the lawns, where one can sit and relax, while enjoying the captivating scenery. There are two beautiful swimming pools, one at the upper level and the other at the lower level. The beach can be accessed from the lower level of the resort, after a short walk. The beach is clean. The resort has provided life guards & beach chairs on the beach.

The building which houses the Reception Area was the part of a palace which belonged to the Cochin royal family. The resort has a large Restaurant and a spacious Buffet Hall. The Breakfast and Dinner Buffet spread was excellent and consisted of a wide variety of Continental, Oriental & Indian delicacies/dishes. The food was truly delicious. The staff were courteous & attentive and provided efficient service. We appreciate the fact that the Head Chef used to be present in the buffet hall and was very pro-active, offering his suggestions & recommendations in respect of the dishes served. A varied and extensive choice of desserts was also available.

The Heritage Cottages are all authentic buildings, belonging to the bygone era, which were purchased and re-located to the resort. The furniture and even the roof tiles of these cottages date back to that era.

The resort has a separate Ayurveda Block, which houses the Ayurveda Treatment Center (Spa), rooms for the stay of the guests undergoing treatment, as well as an exclusive restaurant which serves special food, as per the diet prescribed by the therapists.

We would like to place on record a special word of appreciation for the staff at the Reception/Front Office, for extending excellent hospitality and all necessary assistance to us and making us feel at home right from the time of our arrival. The housekeeping & room service was prompt and efficient.

On the whole, we immensely enjoyed our stay at the resort. It was a wonderful experience and certainly made the 60th Birthday celebration truly memorable. We would certainly like to return to the resort and stay for a longer period. Shall also readily recommend the place to relatives and friends.

Stay at Travancore heritage

Hi, We family (3 members) planned a vacation trip to Trivandrum and booked at Travancore heritage (3D/2N). From the booking till checkout , everything went well, especially the hospitality and ambience at the resort, which gives us a homely feel. Property is very nicely maintained and is very neat and clean( which is a requirement for us)...

We enjoyed each moments there, the scenic beauty, food, pool etc ; also each and every small requirements/suggestions was taken care by the staff and the management on a positive note. Atlast we had a sad feeling that, 2N and 3D is too short 😀, next time need to plan for more days with extended family. All the best team for nice future of the property.

Regards Basil

Great Resort, Great People, Call Resort before booking for Senior Citizen

Review by Guruji64 Bengaluru, India

Let's start with good things first.

The hotel is at a beautiful location, although a little farther, but away from the crowd and noise, at a peaceful place, a visually appealing huge property. The hospitality and demeanor, the behavior of staff is really great, they are very professional, humble and polite. The resort has multiple stay options, including cottages, cottage with a private pool and hotel like rooms too...

The cottages look great, but since we wanted to book separate 2 rooms, online portals only provided options to book the Beach Cove side.

We stayed for 3 days with a Senior Citizen and a 2 year old kid. Best part of the Stay - Food, Comfortable Rooms, Hospitality.

Commute: Avoid the beach Cove side of properties, it is 3 floors below the ground level and very far from the main gate. You may have the partial beach view (can see it from 1KM), but the inconvenience and commute is not worth it. Only way to reach here is to walk and take an old lift. Which even though is good and always has a staff, inconvenient as the rest of the way is very hard to walk for a kid and senior citizen. They provide a van at times until the lift but you can be waiting a long time to get it or some times they can just say they don't have a van.

Beach Access: The beach is quite far from the back gate and not as walkable as the reviews and descriptions make it seem. The back gate itself is far. Once you get out of the back gate need to walk far to get to the beach. No commute available and resort doesn't manage anything to reach there. They expect people to walk. No empathy for senior citizen and kids. The gate access itself is limited till 6PM only, so if you are planning to watch the sunset at the beach, plan to come back walking 3-4KM to the main entrance from outside the property. It is difficult to find an Auto or other private vehicles too.

Amenities: Kids play area, 2 pools, Trampoline, Good Restaurant, TravelDesk, Ayurveda therapy, consultation

Food: Expensive! Low value for Money!! The Buffet is very costly and very repetitive and bare basic. For once or twice it is okay although you can't have this every day and night. No consistency, what you ordered and liked today, may be bad the next day. No empathy for special instructions like non spicy food etc. Desserts were good. Room service is terrible. The menu has very limited items, barely any options. They don't even provide plates, spoons and bowls and spoons enough to feed all the people. The Chapatis go hard as a Metal sheet in few minutes. Every order needs 2-3 follow ups to get it right.

I posted this review although and the service difference on the last day was Humongous! Wish they could manage crowd and pressure better.

We had asked for some Food To Go on the last day, while they pleasantly arranged for the Lunch parcel, the packaging was terrible and the Khichdi spilled over the whole bag. Was embarrassing at the airport and flight, but we couldn't have just thrown it away, since it was the Kid's food, specially made without spices.

Pools: Swimming pools are lovely and pool staff are good. Washrooms are well maintained

Rooms: Beach Cove rooms are mostly good and spacious clean and cozy with chairs in the balcony with a view. It was very sunny and hot outside so we needed to stay in the room during the afternoon. No television d2h, needed to call reception everyday to get something up on TV. There is free Wifi although connectivity is inconsistent, keeps dropping.

Overall, this resort even though beautiful, and hospitality is great but not sure is worth the expense it costs. For 3 days, basic coffee, few snacks and Lunch and Dinner costed us additional 14-15K, without alcohol.
